A corner trattoria that became Tribeca’s dining room

Locanda Verde opened in The Greenwich Hotel in 2009, a year after the hotel, and has fed the neighbourhood from breakfast to late since.

The name means green inn: in Italian a locanda is a local place to eat, drink and perhaps stay the night, as the restaurant’s own page explains (Locanda Verde). Andrew Carmellini, chef and co-owner, calls the cooking urban Italian: antipasti, house-made pasta and secondi on a seasonal menu.

In 2024, 15 years on, Carmellini told Tribeca Citizen he had put a million dollars into the kitchen, removed the pizza oven left by the short-lived restaurant before him and refreshed the tables and woodwork (Tribeca Citizen). The same year a second Locanda Verde opened uptown at 50 Hudson Yards (Locanda Verde).

New York Magazine calls it an all-day downtown institution, with a morning counter of pastries and coffee, business lunches and busy dinners, and lists the dishes to order: the sheep’s-milk ricotta crostini, the lamb meatball sliders, the grandmother’s ravioli and the garlic chicken for 2 (New York Magazine).

We read the scores on 5 October 2026: 4.6 out of 5 on OpenTable from 2,513 diners, 4.4 on Google from 2,395, 4.1 on Tripadvisor from 1,237. OpenTable gives dinner as daily 5pm to 10pm; the restaurant’s own site keeps Thursday to Saturday open until 11pm.
