The choice, in short

Why choose The Savoy

An evening of rare wine by the glass in the Savoy’s black-and-gold room.

The list

When to look elsewhere

Open 5 evenings a week, over-18s only, and the cocktail bar of the old name is gone.

Other hotel wine bars

From cocktail bar to the Savoy’s house of wine

From the Savoy’s own pages, its booking system, the sample wine list and the trade press, read on 17 October 2026.

Until this autumn the room was the Beaufort Bar, a cocktail bar that CLASS, the bar trade’s magazine, calls a former member of The World’s 50 Best Bars, with Chris Moore, Anna Sebastian and Lorenzo Antinori among those who worked behind it. On 13 October 2026, Harpers reports, it reopened as the Beaufort Wine Bar; the Savoy’s restaurants page now calls it the hotel’s «House of Wine». OpenTable still lists the Beaufort Bar with cocktails and DJ music, and Google’s first page carries reviews of the cocktail bar written between 2011 and 2019.

The room has a longer memory than its bars. The Savoy’s history pages tell how George Gershwin gave the British premiere of «Rhapsody in Blue» in the Beaufort Room and the Thames Foyer, on the hotel’s rising cabaret floor, with the house dance band, the Savoy Orpheans, and the BBC broadcasting live. Gershwin was missing until barely a minute before air; the second pianist, Carroll Gibbons, had run through his part in case he had to play it himself.

The list is the work of the head sommelier, Romain Audrerie, who was on the opening team of Chiltern Firehouse and then global wine director for André Balazs Properties. The Savoy’s page counts over 250 wines from 18 countries, with more than 120 by the glass through Coravin, a device that pours wine without pulling the cork. Time Out found vintages from 1975 to 2025. The spirits are grape spirits only, and the cocktails are wine cocktails built on Cognac, Grappa and Pisco.

What a glass costs, on the sample list dated 12 October 2026, with VAT included: 100 ml of Jean-Paul Brun’s 2022 Roussanne is £8, 100 ml of 2024 Saint-Véran from Domaine Bourcier-Martinot £9, 175 ml of Muscadet £12, and 125 ml of Michel Gonet’s 2020 «3 Terroirs» Champagne £21. The rare end is sold in 50 ml measures: 2013 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru from Marc Morey at £40, 1996 Château d’Yquem at £47, 1996 Cos d’Estournel at £33 and 1989 Château Cheval Blanc at £120. Bottles run from £50, the price of the Muscadet and a Côtes-du-Rhône among others, to £4,400 for a 2007 Pétrus.

The food comes on a trolley. A flywheel slicer cuts Cobble Lane bresaola, Great Glen venison and fennel salami to order, acorn-fed Jamón Ibérico de Bellota is carved by hand, and the cheese board brings Baron Bigod, Mrs Bell’s Blue and Lincolnshire Poacher: £21 a plate each. The hotel’s FAQ puts the Beaufort’s food under Gerald Quadros, whose chefs also cook for Gallery and the American Bar. The sound is live music and a vinyl set-up playing records cut for the room.

The guests’ reviews we hold all describe the cocktail bar: our collection ends on 4 October 2026, 9 days before the wine bar opened. In April 2025 a guest praised the welcome and a seasonal sour. In July 2025 a party of 4, who came because the American Bar had no space, was given its table for 1 hour and was disappointed by the cocktails. In September 2026 a family that hired the room for a 50th birthday wrote that staff refused water to a guest who had fallen.

Beaufort Bar: your questions

Is the Beaufort Bar at the Savoy still open?

Yes, under a new name. It reopened on 13 October 2026 as the Beaufort Wine Bar, in the same room, Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm.

Is there a dress code for the Savoy bar?

Yes, a loose one: the Savoy has no formal code but asks guests to dress elegantly, and it turns away sports jerseys, supporters’ shirts and offensive or disruptive clothing. The Fairmont’s page for the Beaufort says «dress to impress».

How old do you have to be?

18, for every guest: the booking page says all guests must be 18 or over. The hotel’s questions page lets children of people staying at the Savoy in at any age only in its sentence on the American Bar; of the Beaufort it says it «only accepts guests that are 18 and above».

How much is a glass of wine?

From £8 for 100 ml of Jean-Paul Brun’s 2022 Roussanne and £21 for 125 ml of Champagne, on the sample list dated 12 October 2026. The costliest pour is 175 ml of 1989 Cheval Blanc at £419.

Does the Beaufort still serve cocktails?

A selection of wine cocktails made with Cognac, Grappa or Pisco. For the classic cocktail list, book the American Bar.

How is it different from the American Bar?

The American Bar is the Savoy’s cocktail bar, open every day from noon for over-16s with an adult; the Beaufort is its wine bar, open 5 evenings a week for over-18s.

Do you need to book?

Booking is the safe course: the hotel says its bars are very popular. A table booked on SevenRooms is held for 2 hours, and a cancellation inside 48 hours costs £35 a head.

Can hotel guests pay with dining credit?

Yes, on the Dine and Dream offer: £50 a night for each adult, which the offer’s terms allow in the Beaufort Wine Bar.
