Borgo Egnazia, a Puglia spa resort: Vair Spa, its Roman baths and its rules

Borgo Egnazia is a Puglia spa resort with its spa hidden beneath the village: you reach Vair down stone corridors, and for the sea there are 2 beaches. Hotel guests have the pool and the wet area included; the Roman baths and treatments are booked and paid for separately.

The indoor pool: a long pool with white loungers along pale stone walls and arched windows.

Who Borgo Egnazia suits, if you want a spa in Puglia

Why choose it

You want a big spa without leaving the resort, with the sea and golf a few minutes away, as a couple or with children.

Vair Spa

When to look elsewhere

You want the sea under your balcony or a lighter bill: the spa is in the countryside, and for Saturday 10 July 2027 the lowest price Google Hotels showed for that single night, on 13 October 2026, was €1,426 for 2.

Other spas

A village built around a spa

Beneath the lanes, Vair works with water, warmth and what Puglia keeps in its larder: olive oil, herbs, salt. Then you climb back up, and there is the piazza.

Borgo Egnazia stands where the hills of the Itria Valley slip down to the Adriatic, built with the shapes, materials and colours of a Puglian village, the hotel writes. It has been one of the Leading Hotels of the World since 2010.

In dialect Vair means “true”, the spa explains, and the treatments speak Puglian too: U Mâre is “the sea”. Into them go Mediterranean sea salt, olive oil and herbs.

The World Spa Awards named it Italy’s Best Hotel Spa in 2023, and Vogue put it in its Global Spa Guide in 2025. In between, from 13 to 15 June 2024, the resort hosted the G7 summit.

To get to know Vair Spa we read the 17 official spa and hotel pages cited here, watched the 2 videos filmed down there, from the indoor pool to a massage for 2, and searched the 940 Google reviews with text, from 2019 to 27 September 2026, for the word spa. It turns up in 47. Only 7, though, talk about massages and treatments: 5 are glowing, and one ranks its massage among the best ever received.

A spa day, hour by hour

Mornings belong to the wet area, which comes with the room. The Roman baths and massages need booking, and the sea will happily wait for the afternoon.

Lunch

Il Porticato serves from morning to night above La Corte’s pools, the hotel’s site says; from May there is also the beach club’s seafood restaurant at Cala Masciola.

15:00

The Roman baths

Warm water and cold, in turns. The short circuit takes 50 minutes and costs €125, €170 for 2; with a Mediterranean sea-salt scrub it runs to 80 minutes, €160, €290 for 2; the long one, 120 minutes with mud, ice and the flotation tank, costs €245, €425 for 2.

17:00

The massage

2 dialect names from the menu: the sea-inspired U Mâre, €165 for 50 minutes, and ’A Masciâre, with hot stones, €175. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before; after that you pay in full.

The room for a spa holiday

As a couple you want quiet; with children, square metres.

Couples sleep in La Corte, the main building, with 2 outdoor pools and its own restaurants: from June to September and over the holidays it takes only guests over 12, the hotel says. La Corte Magnifica runs to 75 m², with a private terrace looking over olive groves, golf, sea or pools; La Egnazia, 125 m², has its own heated pool and a stone bath in the middle of the bathroom. With children you stay in Il Borgo: the Casette are on 2 floors, and the family pool is next to the kids club.

Search for a Puglia spa resort and Tripadvisor’s, Expedia’s and the guides’ lists come first, the masserie’s own pages after them. 3 of the best-known hotel spas are in Savelletri, almost round the corner: Torre Coccaro 5 minutes away by car, Masseria San Domenico and Torre Maizza 7. Baglioni Masseria Muzza is down in the Salento, 2 hours away by car. None of them is a thermal spa; they are all hotel spas, told apart by their water, their rules for teenagers and who pays to get in.

Questions about the spa and the resort

Who gets in, when, what it costs, children and the pools: what people ask before booking a spa holiday in Puglia.

Is the spa included in the stay?

Partly. Hotel guests have the sauna, steam room, sanarium, ice fountain, relaxation room, indoor pool and gym included, Vogue writes; the Roman baths and treatments are extra. 2 Google reviews, from 2020 and 2021, found the sauna and pool charged for, the first because of the Covid rules. And on 27 September 2026 Perplexity said hotel guests pay €40 a day too: on the spa’s website, only those not staying pay it.

Can I use the spa if I am not staying at Borgo Egnazia?

Yes, with a booking. The spa explains: you email or phone, prepay your treatments 24 hours ahead and add €40 a person for the day, with the sauna, steam room, sanarium, ice fountain, relaxation room, indoor pool and gym. Without treatments, the wet area and gym cost €80 a person. Then there are the spa days: Salâte and Staggiàume at €375, Addauré at €395 with dinner, Sémblece at €555 with dinner at Due Camini.

How much do the Roman baths and massages cost?

The Roman baths run from €125 for 50 minutes, €170 for 2, through €160 for 80 minutes, €290 for 2, to €245 for 120 minutes, €425 for 2. The flotation tank is €75 for 20 minutes. Massages start at €155 for 45 minutes and go up to €245 for 75; the sea-inspired U Mâre costs €165 for 50 minutes.

Can children use the spa?

Yes, within limits. Under-16s cannot use the spa on their own but can have the treatments designed for them, and under-18s need written consent from a parent, the policy says. Children can use the indoor pool with an adult, the hotel says. Mr & Mrs Smith calls the spa adults-only, but the spa’s own rules say otherwise.

Is the indoor pool heated? And the outdoor ones?

The indoor one is: Vair Spa’s pool is heated and open all day. Outdoors there are 3: 2 in La Corte, kept for over-12s in summer and over the holidays, and the family pool in Il Borgo, next to the kids club, heated from mid-September to mid-June according to Mr & Mrs Smith. Nobody publishes the water temperature; a July 2026 guest puts La Corte’s pools at 32 and 36 metres long.

When is Vair Spa open, and do I need to book?

9am to 7pm according to Vair Spa’s website, 10.30am to 8pm every day according to the Leading Hotels of the World page: the 2 sources disagree. Every experience is booked through the spa’s reception or Guest Service, and that booking fixes your time; cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.

How much is a night, and are there spa packages?

From €450 for 2 in November to €1,426 in July. In Google Hotels’ calendar, read on 13 October 2026, the lowest price shown for a single night for 2 was €450 on Monday 23 November and €670 on Saturday 5 December 2026, and €1,426 for Saturday 10 July 2027. There are packages too: until 23 December 2026, 3 nights in the Borgo, in a Casetta or a Casa, include breakfast and a $500 credit for Vair Spa or the table, and the spa sells stays of 3 or 4 nights, from €526 to €684 per person per night.

Which are the best hotels with a spa in Puglia?

It depends on the water you want. In Savelletri, a few minutes from one another, Borgo Egnazia has Vair Spa, Italy’s Best Hotel Spa at the 2023 World Spa Awards, with Roman baths and a flotation tank; Masseria San Domenico has thalassotherapy with sea water at 37°C, for guests aged 14 and over; Masseria Torre Coccaro an AVEDA spa in natural caves, with a heated indoor pool; Masseria Torre Maizza the Irene Forte spa in an old olive mill. In the Salento, Baglioni Masseria Muzza includes the wet area in the stay. On 27 September 2026, though, Google’s hotel panel for “hotel spa puglia” showed other names, such as Callistos Hotel & Spa and Pietrablu Resort & Spa.

Until 23 December, 3 nights in the Borgo with $500 to spend at the spa
