The boat from Lucerne
The resort’s boat leaves the Bahnhofquai at 8.07am in summer and 9.07am in autumn and winter: 25 minutes on the lake, and the funicular waiting at the pier.
Of all the spa hotels near Lucerne, the Bürgenstock Alpine Spa is the one that starts on a boat: 25 minutes across the lake, then a funicular up to a 35 °C pool 500 metres above the water. It takes day visitors; treatments and the private suites cost extra.

You want a vast spa high above the lake, for a single day or for 2 or 3, and you would rather arrive by boat than by car.
What is includedYou crave quiet and a handful of guests: weekends fill the spa with day visitors and a night starts at CHF 974, while Villa Honegg has 25 rooms and the Mandarin Oriental is 3 minutes’ drive from Lucerne station.
The lake’s other spasYou arrive from below, at the pier, and climb 500 metres. Up there the Alpine Spa’s infinity pool hands Lake Lucerne back to you, this time from above.
It began in 1872, when Franz Josef Bucher and Josef Durrer started building on the Tritt alp; the first hotel opened in 1873, the resort says. Since 1888 an electric funicular has climbed 500 metres from the Kehrsiten pier, and it is still the way up to the spa.
Between saunas there is a walk to make your knees wobble: the Felsenweg, a path cut into the cliff above the lake, leads to the Hammetschwand Lift, which at 1,132 metres rides 153 metres up the rock in 60 seconds. The resort calls it Europe’s highest outdoor lift.
Today the resort is a small town of more than 60 hectares: 2 luxury hotels, a chalet-style one, the Residence Suites, 12 restaurants and bars and 2 spas. It belongs to the Bürgenstock Collection, alongside the Schweizerhof in Bern and the Royal Savoy in Lausanne.
The Alpine Spa sits inside the Bürgenstock Hotel, 211 rooms in 2 wings: the Heritage, once the old Palace, and the Contemporary. The MICHELIN Guide awards it 3 Keys, and guests on Booking.com 9.5 out of 10.
We began with 13 of the resort’s pages, 6 lake spas compared on their own pages and 3 videos, from a drone over the ridge to the infinity pool at dusk. Then came the Google listing of the whole resort, Waldhotel guests included, and its 2,000 most recent reviews with a text. 5, between December 2025 and May 2026, report the same change: hotel guests now have the spa from 3pm on arrival day to noon on departure. In 2024, 2 guests wrote the opposite.
The resort from the air above Lake Lucerne, the funicular climbing through the woods, the infinity pool at dusk, a Contemporary room looking across to the snowy Palace, the wine cellar and the bar, and Switzerland Tourism’s nineteen seconds.

Search for spa hotels near Lucerne and Google opens with the Bürgenstock’s card, then moves on to lists, from Tripadvisor to Booking.com; for «spa hotel lucerne» the resort’s own site came first on 28 September 2026 in both the UK and the US, with Tripadvisor and Booking.com right behind. The biggest, a day without staying, the prices, children, and how you get up there.
The Bürgenstock’s Alpine Spa: 10,000 m² and 5 pools. The Chenot Palace Weggis has a 5,000 m² medical spa, built around its programmes of several days, while Villa Honegg and the Park Hotel Vitznau keep their size to themselves.

The Grand Hotel National, which calls its pool the only hotel pool in Lucerne: open from 7.30am to 10pm, and CHF 45 for visitors. The Mandarin Oriental Palace has a sauna and a steam bath, but no pool.
