Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge: dinner at Jiko
Jiko is a fine-dining restaurant inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and its open kitchen is built around 2 wood-burning ovens where the chefs bake the bread and cook the starters. People come for African spices and boutique South African wines, and after dinner for a walk in the Lodge grounds, home to more than 30 species of African wildlife.

The choice, in short
Why choose Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Every dish here is ordered from the menu, while Boma, in the same Lodge, is a buffet at breakfast and at dinner.
From the grillWhen to look elsewhere
Sanaa looks out on the Sunset Savanna, so a window table there puts zebras and giraffes in view while you eat.
DessertsAfrica, India and the Mediterranean
The cooking blends African tradition with Indian and Mediterranean flavours: steak, chicken, seafood and plant-based dishes, boldly spiced, on a menu that changes with the seasons.1
Starters include braai’d wild boar with creamy pap and tomato chakalaka, and West African koki corn. Among the mains are a seafood tagine with pilau rice, octopus, shrimp and mussels, and a short rib isitambu with cracked hominy, sea peas and masala.2
The bar stays in Africa too: the Mt. Kilimarita is made with an African agave spirit, the Prickly Pear Mule with an African vodka, and the after-dinner Zebratini arrives in a glass striped with chocolate like a zebra.2

Before booking
Does Jiko have a dress code?
Yes: it is a Disney Signature restaurant and expects clean, neat clothes in good condition that suit a refined dining room. No swimwear.1
Where is Jiko in Animal Kingdom Lodge?
Inside the Lodge, near Cape Town Lounge and Wine Bar, which also opens at 5pm.5
Which is better, Jiko or Sanaa?
Sanaa costs less: Disney puts its adult main courses between $15 and $34.99. It sits in the Kidani area, opens for lunch as well, and pairs African cooking with Indian flavours, with an Indian-style bread service and 9 accompaniments, from sweet mango chutney to spicy red chile sambal.6
What does cancelling cost?
In the 2 hours before the table you can no longer change the booking, and most Disney restaurants charge $10 a person to cancel in that window or for not turning up. Jiko’s exact policy comes with the booking.4
