The choice, in short
Why choose Grand Hôtel Stockholm
A slow afternoon on a sofa facing the Royal Palace, with scones and the hotel’s own tea blend.
PricesWhen to look elsewhere
One fixed stand at 625 kronor before Champagne, in a bar that fills up; the hotel prints no list of the sandwiches and cakes.
Other afternoon teasSwedish sandwiches, scones with smetana, a tea blended for the hotel
Everything below comes from the hotel’s afternoon tea page and its menu, a PDF of June 2026, both read on 11 October 2026.
The Traditional Afternoon Tea is one stand: sandwiches with Swedish fillings, pastries, cakes and scones. The scones come with curd, whipped cream, smetana and homemade jam, and the pot holds the Finest Tea Blend of Grand Hôtel. The hotel’s own photograph shows 3 tiers on a marble table, a silver teapot beside them. Neither the page nor the menu names the sandwiches or the cakes one by one, so what is on the stand on a given afternoon is learnt at the table.
The price moves with the glass. On its own the tea is 625 kronor. With a glass of «R» de Ruinart Champagne it is 795 kronor, which is 170 kronor more by our subtraction; with Ruinart Blanc de Blancs it is 895 kronor, and the Pink Afternoon Tea, with Ruinart Rosé, costs the same. The Sparkling Non-Alcoholic version, with a glass of French Bloom, is 695 kronor. The menu adds one alcohol-free cocktail, Croustade aux Pommes, at 155 kronor: French Bloom, Pink Lady apples, almonds and star anise.
The house blend was created with The Tea Centre of Stockholm from Chinese, Indian and Sri Lankan leaves, with bergamot from southern Italy and a hint of tropical fruit; the menu says it is as good with milk as without. It is the first of 12 teas on the list, by our count. The others include a Sencha from Shizuoka, Long Jing from Zhejiang, Jasmine Monkey King, a Darjeeling from the Singell Estate, Keemun Mao Feng, Lapsang Souchong, a Pu Erh aged 5 years, Da Hong Pao oolong from the Wuyi Mountains and a matcha from Kyoto. Each carries a price of its own, from 78 kronor for the house blend to 140 kronor for the matcha.
The room is half the reason people come. The Cadier Bar was remodelled in 2006, when part of the old French Dining Room and of the lobby went into it, and the hotel claims for it «perhaps the best view from any hotel bar»: the harbour, the Old Town and the Royal Palace. It is named after Régis Cadier, the French chef who founded the hotel, and it is laid out in large seating groups, with sofas. The bar is cash-free and asks for smart casual dress.
Of the 2,000 Google reviews we hold, written between December 2019 and October 2026, 45 mention afternoon tea, high tea or scones, by our keyword count, and 32 of those give the hotel 5 stars. Of those 45, 25 speak of the staff or the service and 8 name anything on the stand, by the same count. A guest who came for a birthday wrote in September 2026 of freshly baked scones and called it «absolutely worth the money». One in March 2026 found they could talk privately in a big room full of people. On Boxing Day 2024 a guest liked being told what each piece on the stand contained. 2 were cooler: in August 2023 a returning guest found the desserts «a little unimaginative», and the guest of February 2024, on a low table and a huge sofa with the palace in view, thought the food perfect and the price too high.
From the booking to the last cup
- Reserve the table
The page links to online booking and gives a telephone number, +46 (0)8 679 35 85, and an email, cadierbaren@grandhotel.se. A guest in June 2023 advised booking ahead «so you can get right in»; another, in November 2024, walked in on a busy day and was found a table.
- Say what you cannot eat
The hotel says it can tailor the tea to dietary requirements and asks to be told at the reservation. A guest in June 2023 asked for a stand without fish because of an allergy and wrote that it was arranged at once.
- Arrive as for a hotel bar
Service starts at 2pm. The dress code is smart casual; the guest with the fish allergy added that shorts on the man in their party were accepted on a hot summer day.
- Choose the glass, or none
Tea alone, «R» de Ruinart, Blanc de Blancs, Rosé or the alcohol-free French Bloom: the stand is the same and the bill runs from 625 to 895 kronor.
- Start with the house blend
It is the tea named in the price. Whether another tea from the list can take its place at no extra charge is a question for the waiter: the menu gives each tea a price and says nothing more.
- Stay on, or come back later
The tea ends at 5pm and the bar goes on until 1am, or 2am from Thursday to Saturday. After 10pm guests must be 18, or 16 with an adult.

The tea is open to anyone; a room is a separate matter

The afternoon tea is sold by the table and the pages read tie it to no room rate, so hotel guests reserve it as visitors do. A guest who lives in Stockholm wrote in May 2025 of coming several times for coffee or a drink before trying the tea, and of finding it good value (Google reviews). The hotel guide sets out the room categories, which of them face the water and what a night costs.
The hotel, rooms and guest reviews3 other hotel teas, in town and by the sea
One in the city, facing Nybroviken, from Friday to Sunday; 2 by the sea, each on a single day of the week.
The Grand Hôtel is the one of the 4 that serves every day. Hotel Diplomat has poured its afternoon tea since the late 1960s, looking over Nybroviken: on Fridays at 3pm and on Saturdays and Sundays at the times its page prints as «12.30 – 15.00», with warm scones, finger sandwiches and its own Diplomat Tea Blend. Since February 2025 it gives 30 kronor from each tea to the World Childhood Foundation. Its page prints no price.
Outside the centre the tea becomes a day out. Högberga Gård, on Lidingö, lays a buffet of open sandwiches, pastries and scones with lemon curd in its manor house on Saturdays from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, for 425 kronor a person, or 850 kronor with entry to its sea spa from noon. Smådalarö Gård, in the archipelago, serves on Sundays from 1pm to 4pm in Bloms Bar for 425 kronor, with a children’s fika at 85 kronor up to age 11 and a house tea flavoured with sea buckthorn, apple, lemon verbena and ginger.

Grand Hôtel Stockholm afternoon tea: your questions
How much is afternoon tea at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm?
625 kronor a person for the Traditional Afternoon Tea. The Champagne version is 795 kronor, the Blanc de Blancs and the Pink 895 kronor each, and the alcohol-free one with French Bloom 695 kronor.
What time is it served?
From 2pm to 5pm, Monday to Sunday. The menu and the web page give the same hours.
Do I have to book?
The hotel offers booking online, by telephone and by email, and does not say a reservation is compulsory. Of the guests we read, one in June 2023 recommended reserving and one in November 2024 was seated without a booking on a busy day.
Is there a dress code?
Smart casual, the Cadier Bar’s code for the whole day.
Can the tea be made vegetarian, gluten-free or free of an allergen?
The hotel says it can tailor the tea to particular dietary requirements if told when the table is reserved. The pages read list no ready-made vegetarian or gluten-free stand.
Which tea is included?
The Finest Tea Blend of Grand Hôtel, a blend with bergamot made with The Tea Centre of Stockholm, is the one named in the 625 kronor. The web page also speaks of «our collection of carefully selected teas», and the menu prices each of the 12 separately without saying whether another may replace the house blend at no charge. A guest wrote in July 2022 of buying the blend loose from the hotel’s shop afterwards.
Is there an afternoon tea without alcohol?
Yes. The traditional tea has no glass at all, and the Sparkling Non-Alcoholic Afternoon Tea adds French Bloom for 695 kronor.
Can I pay in cash?
No. The Cadier Bar is cash-free, its opening hours page says.
