For a spa-centred city break, the Grand starts at 3,396 kronor, the lowest any seller showed on Google for one night for 2 adults. Families wanting to swim together should choose with care: the spa admits guests from 16 years old.

Like a regular

The Vinterträdgården laid with round tables: a hall as tall as a courtyard, with terracotta walls, rows of arched windows and a white gallery.
  1. Ask for the waterfront

I would ask for a Superior Room with a waterfront view: the category starts at 20 m², but also includes rooms facing a courtyard or side street at lower rates.

  2. The week after New Year

Read on 13 October 2026, the nights from 2 to 8 January 2027 ranged from 3,396 to 3,680 kronor. The dearest priced nights were 5 and 6 July 2027, at 31,891 kronor each.

  3. Before entering the spa

Pack your swimwear for Nordic Spa & Fitness: towels, bathrobes and slippers are included, but the hotel asks you to leave your phone and computer in the locker.

What Grand Hôtel Stockholm is

The Grand stands on Södra Blasieholmshamnen, the quay where the white archipelago boats tie up, with the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan across the water. A French chef founded it in 1874; the Wallenberg family has owned it since 1968, and the hotel’s site calls it the only Swedish member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The MICHELIN Guide gives it 2 Keys.

The reason to choose it is that everything Stockholm does formally happens under this roof: the Cadier Bar open until 1am or 2am, the Veranda and its buffets, Mathias Dahlgren’s 2 restaurants, a ballroom copied from Versailles and a spa with a pool, a cold plunge and saunas. Concierges from Les Clefs d’Or arrange the rest, from theatre seats to a yacht.

It is a house of 279 rooms assembled from several buildings, where the category decides both the size and the outlook. Single Rooms start at 15 m² and Superior Rooms at 20 m², the lower-priced ones on a courtyard or side street; the spa is for over-16s and its entrance is extra on most rates. Anyone set on the palace from the window should book a waterfront category.

One Lume

Lumina Guide 2027

Gives more than the other hotels of its place and price range.

The Grand Hôtel has been Stockholm’s grand hotel since 1874: 279 rooms on the quay that faces the Royal Palace across the water, where the first Nobel banquet was held in 1901.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Grand Hôtel Stockholm’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write about the quay facing the Royal Palace, Gamla Stan and the museums reached on foot, and the archipelago boats that leave from outside the door.

  2. Room

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Comfortable beds, marble bathrooms, renovated and quiet rooms, and the water view for those who booked it: that is what guests write about the rooms.

  3. Staff and service

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The concierge, the doormen and staff who call guests by name recur in the reviews, along with the Cadier Bar and the spa.

  4. Breakfast

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast is a buffet at the Veranda, with the view of the water: guests praise the choice and the quality.

  5. Price

Guests who write well of the bill say you get what you pay for; the rate includes the gym, while entry to the spa is charged apart on most rates.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 23 June 2023 to 3 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Stockholm: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Stockholm:

  • Bank Hotel
  • Hotel Diplomat
  • Hotel Villa Dagmar
  • Nobis Hotel Stockholm

What a night costs, season by season

From 3 May to 8 September 2027, priced nights ranged from 6,392 to 31,891 kronor. I would check the dates before choosing a winter break: the calendar had no price from 1 February to 27 March 2027.

The lowest price any seller showed on Google Hotels for one night searched alone for 2 adults, read 13 October 2026; no room or meal plan is named. The calendar stops on 8 September 2027. Separate high nights: 15 October 2026 at 8,528 kronor; 19 October at 9,005 kronor; 31 December at 12,431 kronor. On 5 June 2027 a separate low night was 6,900 kronor. Booked as 7 nights from 16 to 23 November 2026, the lowest seller Google listed that day asked 5,854 kronor a night.

Questions before you go

What people ask before booking Grand Hôtel Stockholm, answered from the sources read on 8 October 2026.

What kind of hotel is Grand Hôtel Stockholm?

A 5-star of 279 rooms, by the count of the MICHELIN Guide, Tripadvisor and Expedia, on the Stockholm waterfront opposite the Royal Palace. The French chef Régis Cadier opened it in 1874 as the first Swedish hotel on the continental model, says the hotel’s history page; a second wing, the Grand Hôtel Royal with its Winter Garden, followed in 1909.

The Wallenberg family took it over in 1968 and still owns it through FAM AB. The first Nobel banquet was held here in 1901, and the laureates and their families still stay each December. The hotel’s site calls it the only hotel in Sweden in The Leading Hotels of the World; the MICHELIN Guide gives it 2 Keys. The official pages we read print no room count.

Which rooms and suites are there, and how big are they?

17 kinds, on the official rooms page. The rooms: Single from 15 m², Superior from 20 m² and Deluxe from 30 m². The suites: Junior from 45 m², Superior from 50 m² and Executive from 60 m² on the overview, from 70 m² on its own page, plus suites enlarged with parlours to as many as 5 rooms.

10 signature suites are sold by the reservations office: Wilhelmina Skogh at 58 m², Bolinder at 66, Ingrid Bergman at 76, Terrace at 78, Royal at 82, Rooftop at 85, Flag at 100, Bernadotte at 165 and Princess Lilian at 330, besides the 2-storey Attic Suites, whose size is not given. Every room has a DUX bed, a coffee machine, a minibar and a steamer; bathrooms have a bath, a shower or both. Booking.com lists air conditioning in every room.

Where is it, and what is the area like?

At Södra Blasieholmshamnen 8, on the quay called Strömkajen, on the Blasieholmen peninsula: the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan are across the water, the Nationalmuseum is on the same quay and the park of Kungsträdgården is behind. The hotel’s contact page puts it «opposite the Royal Palace and Gamla stan».

Google scores the location 4.6 out of 5. Booking.com guests rate it 9.7 out of 10. A guest of January 2026 notes that the boats for the archipelago leave from the quay outside the door. Reviews describe the rooms as quiet.

How far is it on foot to the Royal Palace, Gamla Stan and the museums?

On foot, computed on OpenStreetMap’s streets on 8 October 2026: 2 minutes and 163 metres to the Nationalmuseum, 6 minutes to the Royal Opera, 7 minutes and 537 metres to the Royal Palace, 9 minutes to Moderna Museet and 11 minutes and 794 metres to the Nobel Prize Museum on Stortorget.

Further out: Stureplan in 12 minutes, the City Hall in 17, the Vasa Museum in 23 minutes and 1,888 metres along Strandvägen, the ABBA museum in 27 and Skansen in 33. Google’s card says 6 minutes to the palace and 1 km to Moderna Museet; the walk we measured there is 702 metres.

How do you get there from the airport and the station?

From Arlanda, 43 km away, the hotel suggests a taxi, one of its own cars or the airport bus to the central station; the road takes about 43 minutes on OpenStreetMap’s figures. The Arlanda Express train covers the same journey in 18 minutes, with departures every 12 to 15 minutes; on 8 October 2026 its home page advertised travel for 199 kronor.

From Stockholm Central it is a taxi of about 5 to 7 minutes or a walk the hotel puts at 15 minutes and we measured at 17. Bromma Airport is 9.7 km away. The hotel’s fleet has a Bentley, a Mercedes S-Class and a Viano for 7, and can book Arlanda’s VIP service; its prices are not published.

Is there parking, and what does it cost?

Yes, in the hotel’s own garage: 1,395 kronor a day, according to the official page on staying. There is no hourly rate, a space cannot be reserved and is given subject to availability; the doorman also books a car wash. The sustainability page counts 4 charging points for electric cars.

Other sources are out of date or wrong. The MICHELIN Guide gives 1,195 kronor a day; Google’s card lists parking as free. The figure to go by is the hotel’s.

Is the hotel on the sea?

It is on the water, without a beach. The quay in front, Strömkajen, faces the stretch of harbour between the palace and Skeppsholmen, and the Grand Café sits in one of the small buildings on it in the warm months. The archipelago boats moor there: a guest of January 2026 writes that the docks are right outside the door.

Nobody bathes from the quay. For the islands the concierge charters a private yacht; a guest of September 2026 had a day in the archipelago arranged that way.

Is there a pool?

Yes, indoors, in the spa. The Nordic Spa & Fitness page lists a pool, which it describes as late-summer warm, a hydromassage pool and a cold-water pool, beside the steam room and the dry sauna. Each spa suite has a small private pool for 2 as well.

There is no outdoor pool and no pool for children: the spa admits over-16s only. Swimwear is the guest’s to bring; towels, robes and slippers are provided.

Is the pool heated, and when is it open?

The site calls the main pool «late-summer warm» and gives no temperature; Booking.com lists it as heated. The pools and saunas follow the hours of the gym and shared areas on the spa’s hours page: Monday to Friday 6am to 10pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am to 9pm, all year.

Hotel guests reserve a time for their visit by writing to the spa; a guest of October 2024 describes slots of 2 hours.

Where do you eat, and when?

The site counts 5 restaurants. The Veranda opens Monday to Friday from 11.30am and at weekends from noon, until 11pm, with the kitchen closing at 10pm; Grand Soleil, with dishes of the French and Italian Riviera, daily from 11.30am to 11pm. Matbaren serves lunch from Wednesday to Saturday and dinner from Monday to Saturday; Seafood Gastro dinner from Wednesday to Saturday and lunch on Friday.

The Cadier Bar serves food from 11am and room service runs round the clock. Prices on the published menus: the Veranda’s menu of 3 courses 865 kronor, its smörgåsbord 750 kronor; a club sandwich in the bar 305 kronor; Seafood Gastro’s tasting menu 3,650 kronor or a shorter one at 2,200 kronor. The Veranda and the bar ask for smart casual dress, and the Veranda allows no shorts after 6pm.

Is breakfast included, and what does it cost?

It depends on the rate. Packages such as «A Grand Breakfast Experience» on the offers page include the buffet; the prepaid «Grand Deal» lists only the gym and Wi-Fi. Expedia shows breakfast as a surcharge.

The Veranda’s buffet opens at 7am and closes at 10.30am; the restaurant’s 2026 calendar prices it at 475 kronor, or 220 kronor for children of 4 to 11, and keeps it mainly for hotel guests. In the Cadier Bar the à la carte Grand Breakfast is 465 kronor and the Continental 405 kronor, served from 7am on weekdays and 8am at weekends, until 11am.

What is the spa like?

The Nordic Spa & Fitness is built in granite from Grythyttan and rauk stones from Gotland, on the idea of a sauna followed by a cold dip. It has a pool, a hydromassage pool, a cold-water pool, a steam room, a dry sauna, an experience shower, a cold bucket shower, a relaxation area, a quiet room and a fitness bar.
