The Peninsula Istanbul suits a stay in restored port buildings on the Karaköy quay, with gardens on the strait and nights from €592 for 2 in February 2027, the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night. Light sleepers should ask for the Bosphorus side: city-view rooms face the bars of Kemankeş Caddesi.

Like a regular

The Lobby: pale sofas and armchairs around tables on a red carpet, tall flower arrangements and double-height windows at the far end.
  1. The Bosphorus side, for quiet

For quiet I would ask for a Deluxe Bosphorus Room, on floors 1 to 4 of Building 1 or floor 5 of Building 3: the strait is in the window, and the bathroom has a deep soaking tub as well as a shower.

  2. The weeks that cost less

Consider 27 February to 5 March 2027: nights from €493 to €592 for 2 on Google, read 13 October 2026. In the dearest week, 27 May to 2 June 2027, nights ran from €891 to €1,188.

  3. Taxes on top of the rate

On the hotel’s own site the Bed & Breakfast rate is quoted per room per night before 10% VAT, a 5% service charge and a 1% accommodation tax; an extra bed is charged for a child aged 12 or over.

What the Peninsula is

The Peninsula stands on the Bosphorus waterfront in Karaköy, inside the Galataport development, with the ferry pier 3 minutes away and the Galata Bridge 7. It is 4 buildings in a row, 3 of them historic and restored; the MICHELIN Guide, which gives it Two Keys, dates the hotel in its present form to 2023, and the group’s own site lists it at No. 31 in The 50 Best Hotels 2026.

What you come for is space and water. The smallest room is 40 m², 13 of the 19 categories are listed with a Bosphorus view, and the gardens run along the quay to an outdoor pool with cabanas. Under the main building a 25-metre heated pool lies beneath lit domes, beside a spa with 8 treatment rooms and separate hammams; on the roof are GALLADA and Topside Bar.

2 things decide the booking: the price and the side of the building. On Google Hotels, read on 13 October 2026, the cheapest run of nights started at €592 for 2, and city-view rooms face Karaköy’s bars: in 2026 several guests wrote of music until 1am or later. The old city’s monuments are across the bridge, 32 minutes on foot to Hagia Sophia or a short ride on the tram.

Two Lumi

Lumina Guide 2027

Exceptional: two of our three readings say so.

The Peninsula Istanbul fills 4 buildings on the Karaköy quay, 3 of them from the old port: 177 rooms and suites, gardens on the Bosphorus and the old city across the water.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 19 May 2025 to 6 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Istanbul: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Istanbul:

  • Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus
  • Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul
  • Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet
  • Raffles Istanbul

Good to know before you book

  • City-view rooms face Kemankeş Caddesi and its bars. Between November 2025 and September 2026, 4 Google reviews describe music from the bars at night in these rooms, in 2 cases until 1am or later: light sleepers should ask for the Bosphorus side.

  • Abelia, the restaurant beside the outdoor pool, is «temporarily closed until spring» on the official page read on 8 October 2026. The pool page still gives the Abelia Pool’s hours as 9am to 7pm.

  • With Peninsula Time you may check in from 6am and leave as late as 10pm at no charge, if you tell the hotel your times 24 hours ahead; if your category is not ready you wait in a hospitality room, and blackout dates apply.

  • The hotel’s own engine quotes euros «excluding taxes and fees»: 10% VAT, a 5% service charge and the accommodation tax come on top. Google Hotels’ figures for the Turkish market already include them.

  • Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapı are on the other side of the Golden Horn: 32 to 36 minutes on foot over the Galata Bridge, or the T1 tram from Karaköy, 4 minutes from the door.

  • The Lobby’s terrace gives priority to hotel residents. Visitors who come for tea or a drink may not get a table, outdoors above all, as 3 Google reviews say between June and October 2026. Between March and October 2026, 6 Google reviews describe waits at the tables of The Lobby and the other restaurants, for a menu or to order.

It depends which side you sleep on

In September 2026 a couple on honeymoon rate the stay 9 out of 10, thanks to a change of room: on the first night, facing the street, club music kept them up until 2.30am. Moved to a Bosphorus room, they slept well for the rest of their 5 nights.

Questions before you go

What people ask before booking The Peninsula Istanbul, answered from the sources read on 8 October 2026.

What kind of hotel is The Peninsula Istanbul?

A 5-star of 177 rooms, by the count of the MICHELIN Guide, Tripadvisor and Expedia, on the Bosphorus quay in Karaköy. The official page describes 4 buildings, 3 of them historic and restored, within Galataport, the redevelopment of the old harbour front; the hotel can be reached by land or by sea.

The MICHELIN Guide writes that it has existed in its present form since 2023 and gives it Two Keys. It is the Istanbul house of The Peninsula Hotels, the Hong Kong group founded in 1928 that runs 12 hotels; its own site lists it at No. 31 in The 50 Best Hotels 2026. The number of rooms is not printed on the official pages we read.

Which rooms and suites are there, and how big are they?

19 categories on the official rooms page. The 7 rooms: Superior from 40 to 49 m², Deluxe from 44 to 59, Grand Deluxe from 57 to 80, all with city views; Superior Bosphorus at 50 to 51 m², Deluxe Bosphorus from 59 to 64 and Grand Deluxe Bosphorus from 62 to 76 on the water; Grand Deluxe with Garden from 50 to 72, with a terrace.

The 9 suites run from 76 m², the Executive Bosphorus with its 44 m² balcony, to the Premier Bosphorus at 141 to 172. The signature 3 are The Rooftop Garden Suite at 169 m², The Art Suite at 175 and The Peninsula Suite at 510, sold by telephone or email only. Superior, Deluxe and the 2 smaller Bosphorus rooms sleep 2; every other category 3.

Where is it, and is the area quiet?

At Kemankeş Caddesi 34 in Karaköy, in the district of Beyoğlu, on the European shore where the Golden Horn meets the Bosphorus. Google scores the neighbourhood 4.8 out of 5, with 4.9 for things to do and 3.6 for access to the airport, and describes cafés, cocktail bars open late, galleries and the sixteenth-century Kılıç Ali Paşa complex.

Quiet depends on the side. The water side looks at gardens and the strait; the street side faces bars and clubs, and in the Google reviews of 2026 guests in city-view rooms write of music until after 1am. Anyone after quiet should book a Bosphorus room.

How far is it on foot to the Galata Tower, the bazaars and Hagia Sophia?

Computed on OpenStreetMap’s paths on 8 October 2026: 10 minutes and 645 metres to the Galata Tower, 7 minutes to Istanbul Modern, 14 minutes and 1,154 metres to the Spice Bazaar, 28 minutes to the Grand Bazaar, 32 minutes and 2,476 metres to Hagia Sophia, 35 to the Blue Mosque and 36 to Topkapı Palace.

All the old-city routes cross the Galata Bridge, 7 minutes from the hotel. Taksim Square is 31 minutes away, uphill. Google Hotels puts the hotel 3 km from Hagia Sophia and a 3-minute walk from the Karaköy ferry terminal: the walking route to the mosque is 2,476 metres, and the pier is indeed 3 minutes off.

How do you get there from the airports?

From Istanbul Airport the road is 40.1 km and 43 minutes without traffic on OpenStreetMap; the hotel’s site gives 45 km. From Sabiha Gökçen, on the Asian side, it is 51.2 km. The hotel’s fleet has electric BMW i7 saloons, Mercedes-Benz S-Class cars and V-Class and Sprinter vans, all with Wi-Fi; transfer prices are not published.

The last stretch can be by water: the yacht PEN 1 runs daily between the hotel and Üsküdar or the Golden Horn, with a glass of Champagne on board for arrivals, according to the yacht page. The «Suite Escape» rate includes one airport transfer per stay. By public transport, the T1 tram stops at Karaköy, 4 minutes from the door.

Is there parking?

Yes, with a valet: parking in the underground garage is free for hotel guests during their stay, and the valet charge for outside visitors is 400 TL, according to the hotel’s official FAQ, read on 15 October 2026.

The official pages we read say nothing about parking or its price. What all 4 agree on is that a car can be left at the hotel and that there are charging points.

Can you get to the sea?

The hotel is on the water, without a beach: its gardens end at a quay on the Bosphorus, and the official pages show neither a beach nor a bathing platform. The swim with the view is in the Abelia Pool, set along the waterfront.

The quay has the hotel’s own dock, used by PEN 1 for transfers and private cruises of up to 10 passengers.

What are the pools like?

There are 2, on the official pools page. The Abelia Pool is outdoors, directly on the Bosphorus quay, with loungers and private cabanas and a view over the strait to the old city. The indoor pool is 25 metres long and heated, on the spa level, between Marmara columns under illuminated domes.

The Peninsula Suite has a third, private pool on its roof. Booking.com calls the outdoor pool an infinity pool; guests in 2026 write of its view over the Bosphorus and of the quiet of the indoor one, which is on the spa level and has no view.

Are the pools heated, and when are they open?

The indoor pool is heated, in the hotel’s words, and opens from 7am to 10pm all year. For the Abelia Pool the official page gives hours, 9am to 7pm, and neither a temperature nor a season; Expedia calls it a «seasonal outdoor pool» and, in another line, a «heated Abelia Pool».

What is certain is that Abelia, the restaurant that serves the pool, was marked «temporarily closed until spring» on 8 October 2026. Non-residents can buy a day at the Abelia Pool: €200 on weekdays and €250 at weekends, VAT included, plus a 10% service charge.

Where do you eat, and when?

The Lobby, on the ground floor, serves from 7am to 11pm from Sunday to Wednesday and until midnight from Thursday to Saturday: breakfast, Mediterranean lunches and dinners, afternoon tea daily and a Sunday brunch from 12.30pm to 4pm at 6,850 lira a guest, half for children of 6 to 12. On the roof, GALLADA by Fatih Tutak cooks Turk-Asian dinners from Tuesday to Sunday, 6.30pm to 1am.

Topside Bar, beside it, opens daily from 4pm to 1am. The dress code in all 3 is smart casual. GALLADA’s Journey menu costs 7,480 lira a head and is served to the whole table. Abelia, by the pool, is closed until spring; room service runs 24 hours. Restaurant prices are in lira, room rates in euros.

Is breakfast included, and what does it cost?

Only with rates that say so. Praise goes to the staff, the size and technology of the rooms, breakfast and the setting on the water. In the street-side rooms the music from the bars is heard until late; on The Lobby’s terrace hotel residents take priority over visitors dropping in for tea or a drink. Among Google’s themes service has 137 positive mentions out of 154.

Which taxes and charges are added?

On the hotel’s own site rates are quoted before tax: the offer terms add 10% VAT, a 5% service charge and a 1% accommodation tax per room per night; the «Suite Escape» terms say 2% for the same tax. For 9 October 2026 the official link on the Google Hotels card carried a total of €1,515.12, of which €215.12 was tax.

So the Google Hotels figures already hold everything, and the engine’s do not. In the restaurants menu prices include VAT; afternoon tea and the Abelia Pool day pass add a 10% service charge. Spa prices are in euros with VAT, plus 10% service.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

You must give your arrival and departure times at least 24 hours ahead, and the hotel notes blackout dates. If the category you booked is not free when you arrive, a hospitality room is provided meanwhile. A family who landed at 5.30am in September 2026 were in their suite at 7am.
