Rosewood Mayakoba: the island spa, its prices and the temazcal

Rosewood Mayakoba keeps its spa on an island in the jungle, set apart from the rest of the resort: Sense, A Rosewood Spa, a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star in 2026. People come for the old Mayan remedies, starting with the temazcal, a pre-Hispanic steam ceremony led by a shaman.

The choice, in short

Why choose Rosewood Mayakoba

The 5 GROUND rituals were created exclusively for Rosewood Mayakoba with GROUND Wellbeing, plant-based aromatherapy handmade in Cork, Ireland, among them one for anxiety and one for sleep.

As a couple

When to look elsewhere

Not a spa day for the whole family: the spa and the gym admit young adults over 16, and younger children have the 3 treatments of the Sense of Beginning menu, 45 or 60 minutes long, with a parent present throughout.

The rituals

What happens on the island

The Cenote Temazcal Purification lasts 150 minutes and begins in the sensory garden, where the plants are chosen; then, inside a stone structure, steam rises from herb-infused water poured on volcanic rocks while an indigenous scrub goes on the skin. It ends with a water rinse and a massage with warm herbal poultices.2

Of the GROUND rituals, Seed opens with a scrub of basil, rosemary and geranium from the garden and ends with a peat mask for the feet; Wisdom massages with cool marble stones and can add a kaolin clay wrap; Star uses a green clay wrap and a slow abdominal massage.6 Seed and Wisdom cost 9,900 pesos for 90 minutes, and all 3 cost 12,400 for 2 hours.3

Among the private holistic sessions, the Spiritual Guidance Consultation spends 90 minutes with the resident spiritual guide on numerology, the Enneagram, astrology and oracles, for 7,500 pesos; the Handpan Soul Session, a private sound session, runs 60 minutes for 6,000, and the Sacred Breath breathwork 5,000.3

Before and after a treatment

Yoga and Pilates run 60 minutes, the float versions 50, at 550 pesos a class.3
