For couples who want a butler and a beach club on the sand, single nights for 2 adults start at 17,783 pesos (MXN) from 15 to 17 November 2026, the lowest seller on Google. Those who want Playa del Carmen’s evenings on foot would choose a hotel in town, as Mayakoba is a gated enclave without cars.

The lagoon at dusk between banks of mangroves
  1. The suite over the lagoon

For 2, I would ask for the Deluxe Overwater Lagoon Suite, which the hotel calls ideal for couples and which floats above the lagoon; 2 returning guests, writing in July 2022 and July 2023, chose it.

  2. The mid-November nights

Each night from 15 to 17 November 2026, searched alone, showed 17,783–18,565 pesos on 17 October 2026, while 1 January 2027 reached 86,802 pesos. I would compare those November dates first.

  3. Taxes, service and eco fee

Suite rates, quoted in US dollars, carry 16% VAT, 5% occupancy tax, a 15% service charge and an eco fee of 50.91 pesos per suite per night; a third guest aged 12 or over adds USD 130 a night.

  4. Wellness Wednesdays, Mindfulness Mondays

Every Wednesday at 10.30am the resort holds free workshops on balance and self-care, and every Monday at 9am a free meditation with copal resin and cacao opens the week.

What Rosewood Mayakoba is

The 129 suites and villas are spread along the canals of Mayakoba, a gated, car-free enclave of mangroves and lagoons that the resort shares with Alila, Banyan Tree and Fairmont, with a mile of beach on the Caribbean. You get about by electric boat, golf cart, bicycle or on foot along a trail of nearly 5 km, and the hotel says turtles glide up to the suites. Guests love the bikes and the boat rides; in 2019, 2023 and 2025, 3 of them write of waiting for a golf cart, once for an hour and a half late at night.

Every suite has a butler and a heated plunge pool. The Beachfront Studio Suite, 72 m² inside and 61 m² outside, sits a few steps from the sand and faces the sea; the Deluxe Overwater Lagoon Suite stands over the water and, like the 2-storey Lagoon Loft Suite beside the spa, takes adults only. With small children the hotel itself suggests the Beachside Lagoon View and Deluxe Lagoon suites, whose bedrooms close off with doors; groups have 11 lagoon residences of 2 to 5 bedrooms, each with a heated pool and a boat dock.

Casa del Lago serves chilaquiles and huevos rancheros at breakfast, from 7am to 11:30am, and Italian dinners from 6pm; Punta Bonita, reopened in March 2026, cooks ceviche by day and Mediterranean plates at night beside the sea. On Wednesdays and Saturdays La Ceiba lays one long table under a ceiba tree for hotel guests, and Zapote Bar, 74th in North America’s 50 Best Bars ranking in 2025, pours Mexican craft spirits until midnight. Breakfast is not in the room-only rate, and Agave Azul is marked temporarily closed.

Sense, A Rosewood Spa sits on its own island in the jungle: 12 treatment rooms, a temazcal led by a shaman, and a heated hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room that every guest may use free from 8am to 8pm, from the age of 16. The beach divides guests: in July 2025 a reviewer writes of seaweed strong enough to smell, and in July 2026 another of seaweed cleared every day, and in September 2024 and April 2025, 2 returning guests describe a shore largely washed away.

In the Lumina Guide

Lumina Guide 2027

Rosewood Mayakoba stands on the lagoons of Mayakoba, between Cancún and Playa del Carmen on the Riviera Maya, where a boat takes you to your suite and every suite has its own heated plunge pool.

How we choose the hotels

Those who come back

Among the hotel’s regulars, a guest on a third stay who wrote in March 2023 says the staff make guests feel right at home. Back for a tenth time, one who wrote in June 2022 found housekeeping remembered requests from previous years. A guest on a third visit who wrote in February 2023 liked the updated decor in the rooms, nicer and more comfortable than before, and has had the La Ceiba dinner on each visit. After 3 stays, one who wrote in June 2026 highly recommends that dinner. Having stayed many times, one who wrote in September 2024 advises the leap to a beachfront villa for those who can afford it.

  • 10 of the 519 reviews with text say it is not a first stay
  • From a second stay to a tenth
  • One guest has come 10 times in 10 years

Every returning-guest candidate was read; visits, trips and plans to return that do not state an earlier stay at this hotel were left out.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Rosewood Mayakoba’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. You reach the suite by boat and get about by bicycle or golf cart among lagoons, mangroves, iguanas and the beach; others write of seaweed on the shore in summer.

  2. Room

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests come back to the plunge pool, the outdoor shower and the space of the suites; more than one singles out the Wellness Suites beside the spa.

  3. Staff and service

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests describe butlers they can text, who book dinners and boats and prepare surprises for birthdays; others write of waiting for a golf cart late in the evening.

  4. Breakfast

In September 2026 a guest remembers good juice and fresh fruit every morning, and others the eggs cooked to order; one would have liked a full buffet, and on the room-only rate breakfast is paid separately.

  5. Price

6 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. Those who write well of it say the boat arrival, the suites and the service are worth the outlay; others find food and drink outside the rate dear, about USD 30 for a starter according to a guest in July 2026.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 8 October 2019 to 28 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay on the Riviera Maya: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 17 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against on the Riviera Maya:

  • Banyan Tree Mayakoba
  • Fairmont Mayakoba
  • Chablé Maroma
  • Etéreo, Auberge Collection

The night of 26 October 2026 stands apart at 15,626 pesos, as does 27 October 2026 at 30,476 pesos. No price appeared from 24 to 31 December 2026, from 24 to 27 January 2027 or on 13 and 14 February 2027. Questions before booking

Where is Rosewood Mayakoba, and is it quiet?

At km 298 of the federal highway between Cancún and Playa del Carmen, inside Mayakoba, a gated enclave of lagoons, mangroves and a mile of Caribbean beach that it shares with Alila, Banyan Tree and Fairmont. No cars run among the lagoons: you get about by electric boat, golf cart, bicycle or on foot along a trail of nearly 5 km (Mayakoba’s FAQ). Guests describe it as quiet and private; in June 2026 one warns about mosquitoes at night.

What kind of hotel is it, and how many suites does it have?

A Rosewood resort of 129 suites and villas, according to its fact sheet. It opened in January 2008 with 128 suites; in October 2019 Rosewood announced the refurbishment of its suites and 8 new Wellness Suites. All 8 suite types come with a butler and a heated plunge pool. For the sea, the Beachfront Studio Suite sits a few steps from the sand and the Rooftop Ocean View Suite has its pool on the roof; for the lagoon, the Deluxe Overwater Lagoon Suite is built over the water and, like the 2-storey Lagoon Loft Suite beside the spa, takes adults only.
