For couples and families who come to swim: Santa Maria Bay is known for gentle waves, and a stay here starts at MXN 17,809 for one night taken alone, the lowest seller’s price on Google for 2 adults. Those who want Cabo San Lucas every evening have an 18-minute drive to get there.

Like a regular

A family looking out over the bay from the wall above the beach
  1. The Baja, by the sand

For 2, I would ask for the Baja Beach Front One Bedroom Suite: the official page puts it just steps from the beach, with 229 m², full views of beach and sea and a private pool 34.5 ft long.

  2. The August nights to compare

One night taken alone between 15 and 19 August 2027 showed MXN 17,809–18,322 on 16 October 2026, against MXN 107,434 on 16 January 2027. Booked as 7 nights from 16 November 2026, the lowest seller asked MXN 26,189 a night.

  3. Transfer, rollaway and pets

The hotel’s private airport transfer costs USD 215 each way, a rollaway bed USD 100 a night, and a dog or cat under 40 lb USD 250 per stay, non-refundable; Wi-Fi comes within the resort fee.

  4. Snorkels on the beach

3 guests who wrote between October 2022 and February 2026 found snorkelling gear on the beach at no charge, and 2 of them also mention kayaks and paddleboards.

What Montage Los Cabos is

Santa Maria cove is closed by 2 granite headlands that hold back the swell and the wind: the Los Cabos tourism board counts it among the best places to swim, snorkel and dive, and suggests going in the morning. Guests write about masks, kayaks and paddleboards lent by the hotel, and the homepage adds a free beginners’ scuba session. The sand is coarse, almost fine shingle: a guest in December 2025 recommends water shoes for sensitive feet.

Every King and Queen Queen room measures 83 m², with a terrace or balcony, and nearly all have an outdoor shower as well as an indoor one; what changes is the view. Coastal View looks at the desert, Ocean View partly at the sea, Deluxe Ocean View at the whole of it, and the pool versions add an 11.5 × 10 ft plunge pool on the terrace. As a couple I would take the Baja Beach Front: 229 m² a few steps from the beach, with a 34.5 ft pool.

Mezcal serves breakfast from 7am to noon, with green chilaquiles in hoja santa, molletes and café de olla; at night the menu runs to suckling pig cooked for 36 hours and Sea of Cortez totoaba a la veracruzana. Marea lays its tables beneath a portico facing the bay, with the Sushi Bar from 5pm. Talay is the evening place: Thai food comes out of a truck, the tables sit under lights strung through the trees, and the chef will put together a sharing menu for the whole table.

Spa Montage covers 40,000 sq ft, about 3,700 m²: 12 treatment rooms, steam rooms and hot and cold plunges in Art of Spa, and the adults-only Serenity Pool. Children aged 5 to 12 have Paintbox, beside the lobby, for half or full days. The bill deserves a close look: Mezcal’s menu and the spa add a 15% service charge, and in September 2026 a guest disputes a nightly charge found on the bill for 2 rooms.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 13 January 2021 to 15 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Los Cabos: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 17 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Los Cabos:

  • Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort
  • Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Collection
  • Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

Chilaquiles at breakfast, suckling pig at night

Mezcal opens for breakfast from 7am to noon and for dinner from 6pm to 10pm, with mezcal and tequila at the bar until midnight. At night the menu runs from corn tamal with huitlacoche to suckling pig cooked for 36 hours, and the pattern of the floor follows the lines of the agave.

Dinner is outdoors from 6pm to 10pm: tom kha, green curry and pad thai with prawns. The kitchen works out of a truck, street-stall style, and the chef offers a menu for the whole table; the heat is adjusted on request and there is a children’s menu.

The water garden at Spa Montage

The water garden at Spa Montage

Art of Spa moves between steam rooms and hot and cold plunges, in separate men’s and women’s areas. The Mexican Roots Ritual lasts 120 minutes; the gym is open 24 hours and the wellness classes are free. Visitors staying elsewhere can book a treatment too, from the age of 16.

Good to know before you book

  • Santa Maria Bay is open to everyone: the tourism board lists it as reachable by car and by boat trips from the Cabo San Lucas marina, and guests find it quiet but shared with day visitors. Waves and currents are sometimes strong, guests warned in October 2023 and May 2026.

  • Reviews published in 2024 and 2025 repeatedly describe neighbouring building work, sometimes audible at the pools.

  • Wi-Fi is part of a resort fee whose amount the hotel’s FAQ does not publish. At Mezcal prices include 16% VAT and a 15% service charge is added; the spa adds 15% to treatments. The Google Hotels nights quoted here do not say whether taxes and fees are included.

  • It is not all inclusive. Some official rates add a credit: USD 70 a day for breakfast with Montage Memories, USD 200 a day to spend around the resort with A Stay Well Lived.

  • The residences sit on the hillside, some way from the main buildings: you walk or take the golf cart, which runs 24 hours a day.

  • Dogs and cats under 40 lb pay USD 250 per stay; they are not allowed at the pools, restaurants, spa or gym and must not be left alone in the room.
