Waldorf Astoria New York bar: Peacock Alley under the clock, Lex Yard’s Bar Room and the 10 seats of Bar Yoshoku

Waldorf Astoria New York bar means Peacock Alley first: the lounge under the Grand Clock at 301 Park Avenue, which turns to cocktails at 5pm, with live music from Tuesday to Saturday. Resy, read on 11 October 2026, sets a $75 minimum spend per person there from 4pm to 9pm.

The choice, in short

Why choose Waldorf Astoria New York

You want one grand New York hotel bar with live music, and a quieter second drink under the same roof.

The prices

When to look elsewhere

You want a quick drink at Peacock Alley in the early evening: Resy lists a minimum of $75 a head from 4pm to 9pm, and the evening menu on the hotel’s page prints no prices.

Other hotel bars

The clock, the corner and the whisky counter

The hotel, reopened in 2025, has 3 places to drink; each keeps different hours and a different list.

Peacock Alley calls itself New York’s living room. It stands round the Grand Clock, which the hotel says was commissioned by Queen Victoria for the 1893 World’s Fair and later bought by the Astor family, and it keeps the old invitation, ‘Meet me at the clock.’ By day it serves breakfast, coffee, lunch and tea; when the clock strikes 5pm, in the hotel’s words, it becomes a cocktail bar. The kitchen sends out seafood platters and caviar, a lobster roll, pigs in a blanket made in the house and the Waldorf Salad as Michael Anthony, the chef of Lex Yard, now makes it.

The drinks are by Jeff Bell, whom Resy places at PDT, the bar Please Don’t Tell. His evening menu holds 17 cocktails and 2 without alcohol (our count), in 4 groups. The Originals are the hotel’s own classics, the Waldorf Cocktail of rye, sweet vermouth, absinthe and bitters first among them, with a Glacier Martini of Grey Goose Altius that arrives with a bump of caviar. Then come 4 martinis, the Waldorf Martini with Ford’s Gin and a Castelvetrano olive and another called the 50th St., 4 old fashioneds and 5 seasonal drinks. That menu, as the hotel posts it, carries no prices. The daytime menu does, for 6 of the same drinks: $35 for the Waldorf Martini, $36 for Ember & Earth, $28 for the Emerald Atrium.

Evenings have music and a floor under the bill. The series is called Cole & Friends, after Cole Porter, who lived in the hotel; guest performers play beside the 1907 Steinway the hotel gave him, a piano with a name of its own, ‘High Society’. Sets run from 5.30pm to 8.30pm from Tuesday to Thursday and from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Friday and Saturday. The programme for 13 to 17 October 2026 opened with Ritmo Habana, Latin and Cuban classics, on the Tuesday and House of Standards, classic jazz, on the Wednesday. Resy, read on 11 October 2026, adds 2 things the hotel’s page leaves out: a minimum spend of $75 per person every day from 4pm to 9pm, and the advice to reserve for the peak evening hours.

The second bar is on the Lexington Avenue side. Lex Yard puts its Bar Room on the ground floor, under the dining room, with blush banquettes and the same bartender’s name on the list; walk-ins are welcome and late seatings encouraged. Its menu on 11 October 2026 had 14 cocktails (our count), from the Paris Ball at $24, an aperitivo with orange, strawberry and Champagne, to the Precious Stone at $34, a bourbon drink with amontillado sherry and maple syrup. Spirit-free cocktails are $16. The raw bar is served here too: a dozen Island Creek oysters, 10 tiger prawns and 4 small lobster rolls make the $170 seafood platter.

The third is the smallest. Bar Yoshoku is a lounge of 10 seats inside Yoshoku, the Japanese restaurant off the Park Avenue lobby, given over to the House of Suntory: a list of 20 whiskies that reaches Hibiki 30 Years Old and a Yamazaki Sherry Cask of 2009, with a 4-litre bottle of Suntory Very Old and Rare from the 1970s on show. The short cocktail list includes an old fashioned made with Yamazaki 12. Reservations are taken by text message only. The only prices posted are on the restaurant’s drinks menu, where cocktails cost $28 to $34; that is Yoshoku’s list, the old fashioned is not on it, and the bar may pour from a list of its own.

Guests on Google write about the room, the music and the bill. One in July 2025 called the jazz heaven and the cocktail prices sky-high, worth paying as the price of admission; one in May 2026 loved the live music by the clock and a film-themed martini. On the bill: a visitor in October 2025 who dropped in with a friend, the friend drinking a martini, put the total at about $180; a German guest in November 2025 named €54 for a Bloody Mary as the upper limit and found the service short of 5 stars; and a guest in September 2025 reported the $75 minimum applying even to a cup of coffee. A guest in April 2026 found the lobby bar too small for the number of people who come to it and its service wanting, and one in August 2026, seated behind a column near the piano, expected to be forgotten and was proved wrong.
