Aman New York’s Jazz Club: who gets in, what the cover costs and how the night runs

The Jazz Club at Aman New York is the one room in the hotel anyone 21 or over can book, staying or not. Booking is by email only, and the unprinted cover ran from $35 at the bar to a little over $100 at a table in the latest report.

Who the Jazz Club at Aman New York is for

Why go

You want live jazz in a small, well-dressed room in Midtown, booked a few weeks ahead, with Aman’s service and no need to stay at the hotel.

The cover and the bill

When to look elsewhere

You want to compare ticket prices online without an email exchange, turn up on the night, or go on a Sunday or Monday: Birdland prints its prices and sells seats online, and Dizzy’s Club, which sells tickets ahead, plays every night.

Other jazz clubs

Beneath the Crown Building, a room built for listening

The club takes its cue from the building’s birthday: the Crown Building was finished in 1921, a year into Prohibition, and the room beneath it is the speakeasy that decade would have hidden.

It opened fully on 6 September 2022, a few weeks after the hotel, in 3,000 square feet designed by Jean-Michel Gathy: crescent banquettes (LUXE), candlelit tables and, centre stage, a 1962 Steinway that can be seen from every seat (Vogue). The trumpeter Brian Newman, nominated 6 times for a Grammy, was named its creative director and anchoring act, and still plays: the 9pm set on 30 October 2026 is his (October programme).

Sound is the other half. The club runs Meyer Sound’s Constellation system, more than 150 loudspeakers and microphones behind sound-absorbing walls and micro-perforated mirrors, which changes the room’s acoustics to suit each act (Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, June 2025).

The programme changes nightly and comes out a month at a time. October 2026 runs 5 nights a week, normally with 2 live sets and a DJ; on 8 October Black Thought brings his series One of Those Nights, soul, jazz and hip-hop with surprise guests (the club), and on 31 October the night belongs to a Halloween party. Hired privately, the room holds up to 150 guests around 2 bars (the club).

We studied the Jazz Club from 5 sides on 30 September 2026: the club’s rules, its September and October programmes and its December 2025 menu, with Aman’s dining and policy pages; Google’s results for the search in the United States, where the club’s own site comes first, and in Italy, where it is not among the first 19 results; the answer ChatGPT gave on 28 September; the 221 Google reviews of the club; and the 363 of the hotel. Of the hotel’s 208 reviews with text, 19 mention the Jazz Club, 14 of them with 5 stars, and together they average 4.47 stars against 4.21 for all 208. Staying guests who go down mostly write a line of praise.

A night at the Jazz Club, from the email to the DJ

Every night the club plays follows the same shape in the October 2026 programme: a first set, a second set, then a DJ. What changes is who is on stage and what it costs you.

Weeks before

Booking by email

The club has no booking engine: its Reservations button opens an email to reservations@thejazzclub.com. A writer who went in October 2024 was told to write no earlier than 30 days before the night and to choose a table or a booth; the bar is first come, first served, but your name must still be on the list. Pick the night from the monthly programme: in October 2026 the first set on the 1st and the whole nights of the 15th and 21st go to private events.

The door

The door on 56th Street

The hotel’s entrance is on Fifth Avenue at 57th Street; the club’s is round the corner at 9 West 56th Street, 2 minutes on foot, and first-timers keep trying the wrong one, a 2024 blogger and a 2025 reviewer among them. A doorman checks your name against the list before you are even inside the building, lifts the rope, and stairs or a service lift take you down to the coat check.

6.30pm

The first set

From 6.30 to 8.30pm (October programme). Order before it starts or in the break, as one reviewer advises: once the band plays, the room listens.

9pm

The second set

From 9 to 11pm, the night’s headline: Black Thought’s series One of Those Nights on 8 October, the singer Lucy Yeghiazaryan on 16 October, the club’s creative director Brian Newman on 30 October (October programme). The rules charge the fee per guest “during any performance, no matter duration of stay”; they do not say whether staying for both sets means paying twice.

11pm

The DJ

From 11pm a DJ plays until late; the club’s own listing closes at 2am (the club). If you mean to stay, say so when you book.

Sun · Mon

The 2 dark nights

The club plays Tuesday to Saturday only (the club). On 31 October the whole night is a Halloween party from 9pm (October programme).

The hotel’s entrance on 57th Street is 2 minutes on foot from the club’s door on 56th; Dizzy’s Club is 13 minutes away, Birdland 24 and Bemelmans Bar 25.

The cover and the bill, from the club’s rules and its December 2025 menu

The club prints the rule for the cover but never its price; the menu, dated December 2025, prints everything else.

On the rules and the menu

  • A performance fee per guest during any performance, however long you stay; the amount depends on the performer
  • Cocktails at $32, from the Summer Palace, with jasmine-pearl gin and Champagne, to the Kyoto, with Japanese whisky and matcha
  • Zero-proof cocktails at $22
  • Small plates from $24 for a vegetable rice roll to $56 for A5 wagyu and waffle; the truffled grilled cheese is $38, the Maine lobster roll $44
  • Caviar and pommes soufflé at $150; Petrossian Royal Osetra at $375 for 30g and $600 for 50g
  • Champagne by the glass from $35 (Bollinger Special Cuvée) to $102 (Dom Pérignon 2015); bottles of wine from $180, of Champagne from $375

The rules at the door

From the club’s rules and Aman’s policy page, read on 30 September 2026: the 2 say the same thing in different words.

Staying upstairs after the last set

A suite turns the walk home into a lift ride, though Aman publishes no priority at the club for its hotel guests, and the cover is charged per guest: a hotel guest in August 2024 paid it too.

The Deluxe Suite 56th Street, 67 to 69 m², is the smallest category and faces the street of the club’s door; the Premier Suite 56th Street runs to 80–83 m². On Google Hotels, read on 13 October 2026, the lowest price shown for one night for 2 adults was $3,000 on 10, 11 and 12 November 2026 and $2,450 on Sunday 7 February 2027, the lowest of the calendar, without saying for which suite; Aman lists 14.75% of city and state tax on its rates, plus an occupancy tax it estimates at $10.50 to $14 a night (Aman). Read the programme before you book the room: on 15 October 2026 the club is closed for a private event.

The Jazz Club or Dizzy’s, Birdland and Bemelmans

Prices, hours and rules from each club’s own page, read on 30 September 2026, and the minutes on foot from the Jazz Club’s door on 56th Street.

Beside New York’s other jazz rooms the Jazz Club is the strictest at the door: 21 and over, smart dress, bookings by email and no price on the page. Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, 13 minutes away on foot, plays every night with a $25 food and drink minimum per set, no dress code and children from 8; it adds a late set from Thursday to Saturday at 10.45pm, $15 at the door. Birdland, 24 minutes away, sold seats for 30 September at $35.46 to $56.06 plus a $20 minimum, and turns nobody away for their clothes. Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle, which also asks guests to dress for the occasion, charges a cover from 5.30pm and does not print its amount either. 3 errors to leave behind: 2 Google reviews of 2025 call the Jazz Club members only, one saying you need a member’s invitation, where Aman makes it the one venue open beyond its guests and Aman Club; the club’s own description in Google’s panel, on 30 September 2026, puts it “on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street”, where the hotel has its entrance and the club has none; and a Yelp summary quoted by Google on 28 September still priced the drinks at $20, where the December 2025 menu has cocktails at $32.

  • What guests say about the club

The club’s own Google listing shows 4.4 from 221 reviews, read on 30 September 2026. Of the 136 with text, 65 talk about the music, and 42 of those give 5 stars. Guests also write about the bill: the cover, set by each performer and never printed, and cocktails at $32 on the December 2025 menu. Between November 2023 and July 2026, 4 Google reviews of the club describe a room with few tables taken.

Questions about the Jazz Club at Aman New York

Who gets in, the cover, the booking, the door and the dress code: what people ask before a night at the Jazz Club.

Can you go to the Jazz Club at Aman New York without staying at the hotel?

Yes. Aman says its restaurants are open for now only to hotel guests and Aman Club Founders, “with the exception of The Jazz Club” (Aman), and the club takes anyone 21 or over with a reservation (the club). Condé Nast Traveler called it, in October 2025, the only part of the hotel fully open to the public (Condé Nast Traveler).

Is it members only, and what does Aman Club change?

It is not members only, although 2 Google reviews of 2025 say so (Google reviews). Aman Club is the members’ club in the same building, and its 2023 manual gives Founders priority reservations at the Jazz Club (Aman Club manual). Joining is reported at $200,000 plus $15,000 a year (Business Insider, May 2024; The Points Guy, August 2022); Page Six reported $100,000 in 2021, for the first 100 members (Page Six).

How much is the cover charge?

Neither the club nor Aman prints a figure: the fee is charged per guest during any performance, and the amount depends on the performer (the club’s rules, Aman’s policy). What guests say they paid, by date, in Google reviews of the club: $75 a head in December 2022, May 2023, March 2024 and December 2024; “$75 to $100 depending on the night” in November 2023; $50 in August 2024, from a hotel guest; $125 a ticket in September 2024; and in May 2026 $35 for a bar seat and “a little over $100” for a table (Google reviews). An Instagram post of November 2025 gives $75 a person, as does Atly’s listing, which is undated; Google’s panel puts the evening at “$100+” a head (Google). Special nights cost more: the 2024 Halloween masquerade was $2,000 a table (Time Out). The figures disagree because the fee follows the performer and, in the latest review, the seat.

How do you book a table?

By email, to reservations@thejazzclub.com: the “Reservations” button on the club’s site opens an email, and there is no booking page. A 2024 visitor was told to write no earlier than 30 days ahead and to choose a table or a booth; the bar is first come, first served, but your name must be on the list (Eclectic Kim). Asked on 28 September 2026, ChatGPT gave that address but also sent readers to book through the club’s site or its programme; neither takes bookings (ChatGPT).

What is the dress code?

The club asks guests to “dress with intention”, in smart, neatly presented clothes; athleisure, flip-flops, shorts, tank tops, baseball caps and overly casual clothes are not allowed, and the club may ask you to change or to come another night (dress code). Aman’s policy says the same in fewer words: smart attire (Aman). Birdland and Dizzy’s Club, by comparison, have none (Birdland, Dizzy’s).

Where is the entrance?

At 9 West 56th Street, the club’s private door (the club), round the corner from the hotel’s entrance on Fifth Avenue at 57th Street: the 2 are 2 minutes apart on foot. Google’s panel for the club, on 30 September 2026, still placed it “on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street” (Google), and several visitors went to the hotel first (Eclectic Kim, Luxury Lifestyle Magazine).

Which nights is it open, and when do the sets start?

Tuesday to Saturday, from 5pm to 2am in the club’s own listing (the club). In October 2026 the regular programme has a set from 6.30 to 8.30pm, another from 9 to 11pm and a DJ from 11pm; the first set on 1 October and the nights of 15 and 21 October are private events, and 31 October is a Halloween party from 9pm (October programme). Older guides still give 7 to 10pm, as LUXE did in 2023 (LUXE).

How old do you have to be?

21, with valid ID (the club, Aman). Dizzy’s Club admits children from 8 and Birdland from 10 (Dizzy’s, Birdland).

Is there food, and what do drinks cost?

Small plates, eaten with the music: from $24 for a vegetable rice roll to $56 for A5 wagyu and waffle, with caviar from $150. Cocktails are $32, zero-proof ones $22, Champagne by the glass from $35 (December 2025 menu). Guests’ reviews have quoted $30 to $40 a drink since 2022 (Google reviews).

Do hotel guests pay the cover too?

The policy makes no exception: the fee is charged “per guest during any performance” (Aman), and a hotel guest who reviewed the club in August 2024 paid $50 a head (Google reviews). Aman publishes a booking priority only for Aman Club Founders (Aman Club manual).

Can you take photographs?

Not with a flash, and no video; phones go on silent (the club, Aman).

Is the Jazz Club at Aman New York worth it?

For the music and the room, most guests say yes: of the 221 Google reviews of the club, 169 give 5 stars, and of the 65 with text that talk about the music, 42 do (Google reviews). Each performer sets the cover and the club never prints it; cocktails are $32.

Pick the night and the set from the monthly programme, then write to reservations@thejazzclub.com: the club takes no bookings online
