The Crown Building
Built in 1921 and MoMA’s first home in 1929: the golden crown that names it lights up over Fifth Avenue at night.
If you love Aman, you know them far away, in a desert or on an island. This one is 3 minutes from Central Park, in a 1921 tower, and in every suite the fire is already lit.
A week here, month by monthAman New York is for days split between Manhattan and the hotel’s 20-metre pool and spa; the lowest price Google showed for a night for 2 was $2,450, in early February 2027. Anyone who wants a long view from the bed will be happier elsewhere: the suites face 56th Street, 57th Street or Fifth Avenue.

5 pairs of hotels, and the guide tells you whether this one suits you.
I would ask for a Premier Sanctuary Suite: 75 m² on floors 11 and 12, the suites’ top floors and the nearest to the spa, looking onto 57th Street. For floor-to-ceiling windows, the Premier Suite 56th Street: 80 to 83 m².
On 13 October 2026 the lowest week in Google Hotels’ calendar ran from 1 to 7 February 2027: $2,450 to $2,700 a night, each night searched on its own. The dearest ran from 13 to 19 November 2026: $4,000 to $11,300 a night.
Aman lists 14.75% of city and state tax on its rates, plus an occupancy tax it estimates at $10.50 to $14 a night. Bringing a dog costs $350 a stay, and the Jazz Club charges each guest a performance fee that changes with the performer.
Working fireplaces frame the bar, and 4 guests who wrote between December 2022 and September 2024 single it out: for work, for meeting a friend, for an aperitif in a room never crowded, for its quiet. Laptops are allowed until 6pm, with earphones.
The building comes with a story. The Crown Building went up in 1921 as the Heckscher Building, designed by Warren & Wetmore; in November 1929 MoMA opened its very first home here, 6 rooms on the twelfth floor. The name came in 1983, from the crown that lights up at night, dressed in 38 kilos of gold leaf. Since 2022 the upper floors have belonged to Aman, with interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy: dark wood, walls that pivot to open the bedroom onto the sitting room, a fireplace and a deep tub in every suite.
The heart of it, though, is the spa: 2,300 m² over 3 floors, a heated 20-metre pool and 2 Spa Houses you book for yourself, one with a banya and hot and cold baths outdoors, the other with a hammam under a marble dome. On the fourteenth floor Arva cooks Italian and Akari Japanese, for now only for hotel guests and Aman Club Founders; in the evening the Jazz Club is the one door open to people staying elsewhere.
On Google 282 of 363 reviews give 5 stars; on Tripadvisor the score is 3.8 out of 5. Long-stay guests describe service that arrives before you ask. Anyone expecting the horizons of Aman’s Asian resorts should bear in mind that this is a Midtown tower: the view changes from suite to suite, and it is worth asking for when booking. Suites start at 67 m² for the Deluxe: large for Manhattan.
Of the 32 Google reviews mentioning the spa, 31 give the hotel 4 or 5 stars. Fewer discuss the price, with more mixed views: some expected more from the service, while guests happy with the bill mention the included minibar and the staff. The comparison covers all 363 Google reviews available on 29 September 2026, including 208 with text, 34 YouTube videos searched (25 about the hotel), 60 Instagram posts, 20 TikToks, 28 articles from 27 publications and 45 official pages.

The scores come from 208 Google reviews with text, left from 28 March 2020 to 10 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in New York: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 1 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in New York:
Price: for two on the night of 7 February 2027, from $2,450 (seen on Google Hotels on 13 October 2026).
On 13 October 2026 the lowest price Google Hotels showed for a night for 2 ran from $2,450 to $2,850 between 2 January and the end of March 2027, and stood at $3,000 or $3,200 on most nights from April to early September; until 2 November 2026 no night was under $4,000. For Sunday 7 February 2027 Google showed $2,450; Aman’s own booking page, read on 11 October, asked from $2,822 for a Deluxe Suite 56th Street, taxes and fees included: with free dates I would go between January and March, and open the night on Aman’s site before paying.

From the hotel’s Google listing: a month in a high-floor suite, the size of the rooms, the music at the Jazz Club and the spa.
Almost a month in an upper-floor suite: service, privacy and hospitality on another level, with the team arriving before the request did.
Anyone who knows Aman in Asia, this guest writes, will be disappointed: at these rates they expected flawless hospitality and found an odd, needlessly intimidating atmosphere.
Beautiful, well-designed rooms, larger than the New York average; calling them all suites, this guest felt, is generous, since they feel like large hotel rooms.
They come back every time: superb acts at the Jazz Club, a spa they call phenomenal and the best facial of their life.
Street noise reached the room, the bed was too hard and the food expensive and ordinary, the sushi restaurant apart.
