Upper East Side museums by day and Café Carlyle’s cabaret later would bring me to the Carlyle, from $1,023 a night for 2 on 4–6 January 2027. For a trip focused on Midtown, I’d sleep farther south.

The Carlyle lobby with painted panels
  1. The suite to request

I would ask for a Central Park Suite for its tower-floor outlook: the official description gives it floor-to-ceiling windows over Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, a king bed and a large kitchen.

  2. A week in February

For 22–28 February 2027, the calendar read on 17 October 2026 shows individual nights from $1,156 to $1,230; its dearest night, 2 December 2026, reaches $2,104.

  3. Arriving with a car

If you bring a car, valet costs $75 a day at the garage beside the 76th Street entrance; SUVs and oversized vehicles carry an additional fee.

  4. Dress for the evening

For an evening at Café Carlyle, pack something dressier: the venue asks guests to avoid hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, tank tops, baseball caps and athletic sneakers when choosing what to wear.

What the Carlyle is

The ground floor gives this stay its rhythm. At Bemelmans, painted murals run above the banquettes and small tables, with music from 5.30 pm. At Café Carlyle, dinner leads into the 8.45 pm show beneath the figures painted by Marcel Vertès. Staying upstairs makes the lift the final journey home.

Choose the room as carefully as the table. Superior and Deluxe King rooms face the courtyard; the Premier looks onto Madison Avenue. For Central Park, look at the suites the hotel identifies, up to the Presidential on the entire 26th floor. Accessible rooms have their own dimensions and capacities: the Accessible Deluxe is 40 m², the standard Deluxe King 35 m².

Start the morning among Dowling’s paintings, then head towards Museum Mile. Back at the hotel, The Gallery serves tea until 4 pm, amid red chairs and Topkapi-inspired decoration. Art and music give the days a shape; spa treatments and performances are booked separately from the room.

388 guests said so on Google, from 13 November 2021 to 12 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in New York: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 17 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in New York:
