The Standard Grill
7am to 11pm, until 1am Thursday to Saturday; the burger costs $29, and Monday to Friday from 4 to 6pm oysters are $1 each.
The Standard, High Line, at 848 Washington Street in New York’s Meatpacking District, is the 2009 glass tower raised on concrete piers over the High Line: every room has a wall of glass on the Hudson or the city.
A week here, month by monthThe Standard suits the city and its nightlife, from $272 a night in January 2027: the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night, for 2 adults. It suits light sleepers less: the rooftop club plays until 4am Wednesday to Saturday.

5 pairs of hotels, and the guide tells you whether this one suits you.
I would ask for a Deluxe King: a higher floor, 11 to 17, for a more breathtaking view, with a rain shower and a tub, and a room type that guarantees privacy in the bathroom.
Consider 14–20 February 2027: single nights for 2 adults ranged from $272 to $383 on Google, read 13 October 2026. The dearest week, 30 November–6 December 2026, ran from $575 to $1,120.
The hotel charges a facility fee of $35 plus tax per night, covering the gym, wifi and daily bottled water. Parking at its partner garage costs $65 plus tax per 24 hours, without in-and-out privileges.
The Standard Grill holds a happy hour from Monday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm, and weekend brunch from 11am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
The hotelier André Balazs built it from the ground up, to a design by Polshek Partnership, now Ennead, and opened it in 2009: 18 floors of glass and concrete raised about 9 metres over the High Line, which runs beneath the building. In 2017 the tower went to Gaw Capital, for $340 million according to The Real Deal, $317 million according to Forbes; since 1 October 2024 the brand has belonged to Hyatt, and you now book on hyatt.com.
The 338 rooms run from the 21 m² Deluxe Queen to the 81 m² Empire Suite, all with floor-to-ceiling glass, nearly all with the bathroom open to the room. On the ground floor are the Standard Grill, from 7am until 11pm, 1am Thursday to Saturday, and the Biergarten under the High Line’s tracks; on the roof Le Bain, with its plunge pool and terrace. The gym is open to guests 24 hours; there is no spa and no pool.
On Google the hotel scores 4.3 out of 5 from 5,142 reviews, on Tripadvisor 4.4 from 6,996; the MICHELIN Guide lists it among its selected hotels. Le Bain’s bass carries until 4am, in most rooms the bathroom is open to the room, there is no coffee machine in the room, and there is a nightly facility fee of $35 plus tax, already included in the Google quotes according to the seller links.
Guests remember the glass walls and tubs facing the river; the same accounts return to limited space, club bass and bathrooms open to the bedroom. For a bathroom with a door, choose a Deluxe, a Corner King or the Empire or Liberty Suite. In the 500 most recent Google reviews with text, 87% of those discussing location are positive, against 68% of those discussing service. Guests who find the price fair cite the neighbourhood, the High Line beneath the hotel and suites on the Hudson; those who find it high cite small rooms and noisy nights.

The Standard, High Line is the 2009 glass tower raised on concrete piers over the High Line, in New York’s Meatpacking District: every room has a wall of glass on the Hudson or the city.
How we choose the hotelsAmong The Standard’s regulars, 6 praise the staff and 5 the views or the location. One, writing in March 2026 after many stays, finds it still the ultimate “oldie but goodie”. Another, writing in July 2023, was given the same room as the previous year and calls it a yearly tradition. A third, writing in August 2025 after a full week in the city for a trade show, calls it a go-to hotel in New York.
Only reviews that state an earlier stay at this hotel are counted; plans to return and visits to other Standard hotels are left out.

What guests like about the rooms are the glass walls and the tubs facing the river.
7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests remember the front-desk team and the bellmen at the door by name, for their welcome and their help; room service, they write, arrives quickly.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 12 January 2024 to 4 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Meatpacking District and Chelsea: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 4 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Scores read on 4 October 2026
From the hotel’s Google listing, in 2026: the river from the sixteenth floor, the position above the High Line, a room over the cobbles and the cabs, the lifts and their videos, and an $11 breakfast.
Sixteenth floor, a clear view of the Hudson, One World Trade Center and Lower Manhattan. The room is small but well designed; the entrance takes a minute to find, and some noise comes down from the rooftop bar.
The location, above the High Line, is what drew him; but he had never felt a hotel thump so many floors up, not even with a white-noise machine.
Glass the length of the wall, warm wood, and everything laid out so the room feels bigger; the window looks straight down on the Meatpacking cobbles and the yellow cabs.
The lifts are nearly pitch black, with strange videos; there is no coffee maker in the room, and the free morning coffee in the lobby is not quite as described at check-in.
A slightly noisy Saturday night, but with the earplugs the hotel provides; the breakfast added to the booking for $11, à la carte in the restaurant downstairs, is worth it.
