Grand Velas Riviera Maya: SE Spa, prices and the Water Ceremony

Grand Velas Riviera Maya’s spa, SE Spa, is one of 6 spas in Mexico with a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating. The draw is the Water Ceremony, a circuit through heat, ice and a sensation pool, and a menu that works with corn cobs, nopal cactus paddles and Mayan honey.

The choice, in short

Why choose Grand Velas Riviera Maya

Every massage, facial and body ritual includes the Water Ceremony, so the thermal circuit comes with the treatment.

Mexican traditions on the menu

The Úumbal Shawl Massage runs 80 minutes from head to toe: therapists press with lemons and stretch the body with shawls, and you are given special garments for it. The Páak’am Nopal Massage steams nopal paddles until they are soft and lays them on the body during a rosemary-oil massage.5

The Organic Kaab Honey Experience is a face and body massage with Xtabentún honey, followed by a Chaká tree bath elixir. The Mayan Herbal Poultices use sage, rosemary, thyme, valerian, lavender and ginger among others, and finish with a rub of herb-infused alcohol on the joints. Both last 80 minutes and cost $440.5

Among the Mindful Therapies, the Sensory Deprivation Tank is a flotation pool of Epsom-salt water in a private suite, followed by a massage with touches of hot stone. In the Nik Te Ha Janzu Experience, «water flower» in Maya, a therapist guides a massage given in the water. Both ask you to wear a swimsuit.5

Before and after your treatment

  • The water circuit

The Water Ceremony runs through a sauna, a colour-therapy steam room, an exfoliation room, an ice room, sensation showers, a hot tub and cold plunge, then the sensation pool with its pebble walkway, cascades, bubble beds, neck jets and bubble geyser.5

  • The tea

Each family of treatments has its tea: Orchid Vanilla, a black tea with vanilla and coconut, after the Mexican traditions; Chamomile Citron, caffeine-free, after the facials.5
