Suvretta House raises its green-roofed turrets beside the forest, more than 1,800 metres up in the Upper Engadine.
I come to Suvretta for the hotel’s private ski lift up to the Corviglia. In the evening, though, gentlemen dine in a dark suit and tie at the Grand Restaurant and children are welcome from age 5: with younger children or no jacket, book the Suvretta Stube, which is casual.

Many rooms and suites have a connecting door to the next room. With older children, ask for connecting rooms instead of a suite.

Lumina Guide 2027
In the guide because I would choose it for a winter in a grand hotel still run by the founder’s descendants.
Distinctions
What do Suvretta House’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Guests describe the Engadine views and a quiet hill a few minutes’ drive from the centre of St. Moritz; one writes that the ski lift is just round the corner.
Most find the rooms spacious, classic in character and finely furnished. One guest describes a very hard bed and 2 single beds instead of a double; another finds the rooms old for the price.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests describe staff who call them by name and attentive service, children included. 2 guests write of rude staff, and another of long waits at teatime, for the menu and then for the order.
One guest describes a wide choice at breakfast; another finds it good, with dishes to order à la carte as well.
4 guests write of a high bill for what they receive, up to CHF 5,400 for one night. Another, who came only for tea and cake, finds the price affordable.
| What | Guests’ score | Guests who mention it | Happy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | 8.9 | 12 | 100% |
| Room | 7.3 | 11 | 82% |
| Staff and service | 7.6 | 25 | 76% |
| Breakfast | 7.5 | 2 | 50% |
| Price | – | 5 | 20% |
47 guests said so on Google, from 14 December 2025 to 18 October 2026. The reviews include visits for tea or for work, without an overnight stay. The other hotels are assessed on the same 5 themes. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in St. Moritz:
Price: for 2, the night of 7 December 2026, from 837 CHF on Google Hotels on 22 October 2026.
