The Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel has been serving since 1941, daily from 7am to 11pm: breakfast, lunch, Sunday brunch on the patio and dinner to a piano. Anyone can book, staying or not; the dress code is smart, and after 4pm men may not wear shorts.

You want a meal with 85 years of Hollywood in the room, on a garden patio, booked a few days ahead, whether you stay at the hotel or not.
The billYou want cutting-edge cooking or a bargain: Spago, 4 minutes away by car, has the more ambitious menu, and at the Polo Lounge breakfast already costs $42 for eggs Benedict.
Other dining roomsThe bar was called El Jardin. In 1941 the banker Hernando Courtright bought the hotel with friends, and the bar became the Polo Lounge.
There are 2 stories behind the name. One, told on Wikipedia, is of a band of famous polo players who toasted their wins here after matches in the bean fields; the other, on the Polo Lounge page, is of a polo trophy Courtright displayed in the bar for a friend. Behind the bar there is still a photograph of 2 regulars, Will Rogers and Darryl F. Zanuck, playing polo (Los Angeles Magazine).
In 1949 the architect Paul R. Williams redesigned the room along with the lobby and the Fountain Coffee Room (the hotel). The candy-striped ceiling and the patio, which the hotel calls one of Los Angeles’ prettiest outdoor dining spots, are still what define it (Polo Lounge page); the cooking is American with an Italian edge, and the specials board changes daily.
The signature dish began with a customer: the polo-playing lawyer Neil McCarthy wanted his salad a particular way, and the McCarthy Salad bears his name; nearly 600 are served each week today (the hotel, Los Angeles Magazine). On 11 July 2026 the Polo Lounge marked 85 years with an archive menu all month, and roasted apple pancakes, at $38, came back for a month at guests’ request (anniversary menu).
We read the Polo Lounge on 4 October 2026 from its menus, its official page and the platforms’ scores: 4.6 out of 5 on OpenTable from 1,377 reviews, 4.5 on Tripadvisor from 919, 4.0 on Yelp from 984. In the hotel’s Google reviews with text, the Polo Lounge appears in 59 of 714, nearly always as the best memory of the stay.
The room is open 16 hours a day, and each part of the day has its own menu. Prices are from the 2026 sample menus, before tax and service.

From 7 to 11am: eggs Benedict at $42, lemon-blueberry-ricotta pancakes at $33, filter coffee at $18 (breakfast menu). The Dutch apple pancake many guides still mention is not on the 2026 menu.
From 11am to 3pm, with the piano: the McCarthy Salad at $46, tortilla soup at $24, the wagyu burger at $52 (lunch menu). This is when the patio fills.
On Sundays from 11am to 3pm, on the patio with light jazz; the sample menu includes a drink of your choice, but the price per head is not published.
From 5 to 11pm: Dover sole at $98, filet at $89, the dry-aged tomahawk for 2 at $195, the chocolate soufflé at $38 (dinner menu, desserts). The house classic cocktails cost $25 (bar menu).
Parties of 6 or more pay a 20% service charge (dinner menu). For diners, OpenTable gives valet at $15 with validation; the hotel publishes no rate.
The Polo Lounge is inside the hotel, on Sunset Boulevard. Spago is 4 minutes away by car, the Hotel Bel-Air’s restaurant 8 and Musso & Frank in Hollywood 14, without traffic.

Among Los Angeles’ storied dining rooms the Polo Lounge is the only one open from breakfast to nearly midnight: Spago, 4 minutes away by car, serves dinner only and closes on Mondays; the Hotel Bel-Air’s restaurant, its sister room under the same owner, opens at 7am like the Polo Lounge but closes at 10pm; Musso & Frank, on Hollywood Boulevard since 1919, opens only in the evening, Tuesday to Sunday. 3 errors to leave behind: OpenTable gives the Polo Lounge’s hours as 8am to 10pm, where the hotel says 7am to 11pm; Forbes Travel Guide writes that the Dutch apple pancake has been on the menu for decades, but the 2026 breakfast menu does not have it; and Google Hotels lists a breakfast buffet, where the hotel serves breakfast only à la carte.
