Other meals

Saskatoon scones and a glass of sparkling wine

Fairview’s tea menu moves from savouries through scones to pastries, with several sparkling-wine and Champagne choices.

The service belongs to Fairview Restaurant, which is named after the mountain peak across Lake Louise. Tea has its own late-morning-to-afternoon hours, separate from the room’s dinner service. The hotel expressly welcomes destination visitors to this meal, provided they reserve. That makes it a clear way to plan time inside the Chateau while staying elsewhere: choose the date and table first, then arrange the rest of the visit around it.

The menu’s base afternoon tea includes a glass of sparkling wine. Other versions name the wine in the glass: Benjamin Bridge Brut from Nova Scotia, Henry of Pelham Cuvée Catherine rosé brut, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label and, for the Celebration tea, Dom Pérignon 2013. Each is a per-person tea service with its own price, while additional glasses are listed separately. Choose the drink you actually want with the meal before comparing the versions.

The scones give the tea a Canadian detail. Alongside traditional scones, the menu lists Saskatoon berry and white chocolate, served with lemon curd, Devonshire cream and the house strawberry jam. The savouries travel between coasts: an East Coast crab roll and Pacific smoked-and-candied salmon with cream cheese, then a chicken mini croissant with avocado and alfalfa. Cucumber with dill and sumac cream and beefsteak tomato with buffalo mozzarella round out the printed selection.

The online pastry list is headed Spring Inspired Sweets and includes wild rose with raspberry, pineapple with passion fruit, matcha with yuzu, and a cherry, chocolate and salted-caramel tart. The hotel says its menus change regularly and that the restaurant’s menu is the current one. Read those flavours as the published example, then let the serving-day menu name the final pastries. The fixed decision you can make before travelling is the tea service and the glass you want with it.

Children aged 12 and under have a separate tea. Its menu gives them a Saskatoon berry and white-chocolate scone, peanut-butter-and-jam and ham-and-cheddar sandwiches, and a crudité garden. The sweets include a chocolate flowerpot, a cookie and fruit-flavoured confections on the published list. Their teapot can hold apple juice, a Shirley Temple or chocolate milk. This is a different meal from an adult sparkling-wine tea, with a price of its own.

The kitchen offers dietary accommodations and asks guests to confirm requirements with the reservations team when booking. That is particularly useful for a tea built around bread, pastry, dairy and seafood: tell the team what the table needs while arranging it. The menu’s signature lobster-and-caviar tower is an additional order, with Nova Scotia lobster salad in vol-au-vent and northern sturgeon caviar served with blinis, egg and chive cream. It is an extra to choose deliberately alongside the tea.

If tea does not fit the day, the other expressly advertised meal for visitors is lunch at Lakeview Lounge. That restaurant looks over Lake Louise and Victoria Glacier and requires a reservation for destination visitors. Fairview’s dinner restaurant and Walliser Stube give hotel guests priority. For a day trip, the practical choice is therefore between the tea you have come for and the lunch you would prefer to order from a conventional menu.

  • Book Fairview afternoon tea

The hotel requires reservations and welcomes people staying outside the Chateau. Use the link on the afternoon tea page or call the dining team.

  • Choose a daytime reservation

This is the daily service window published for afternoon tea. It runs earlier than many hotel teas, so plan the arrival around it.

  • Choose the version you want

The menu has a base sparkling-wine tea, named Canadian sparkling wines, Champagne and a Dom Pérignon Celebration version.

  • Name the children’s meals

The children’s tea is for ages 12 and under. Give the party’s ages and dietary requirements to the reservations team.

  • Read the day’s pastry selection

The hotel describes its online menu as subject to change and gives the restaurant’s menu precedence. Choose extras such as the lobster-and-caviar tower separately.
