Venice Biennale hotels: where to stay for the Giardini and the Arsenale

For a Venice Biennale hotel, stay in Castello, where the gates are a walk away. Bucintoro is about 3 minutes on foot from the Arsenale; Hotel Indigo is about 4 from the Giardini’s Sant’Elena entrance, and its guests praise the quiet; Ca’ di Dio is about 5 from the Arsenale and 12 from the Giardini. Biennale Arte 2026 runs until 22 November, so begin with the entrance you will actually use. If every minute to the Arsenale matters, Bucintoro is closer. If you want a courtyard to come back to between the 2 venues, Ca’ di Dio is worth the longer walk.

3 hotels, 3 ways to see it

Walking times run to the named 2026 entrances along OpenStreetMap streets, computed on 27 September 2026. Your pace and the crowds on the Riva do the rest.

01

Hotel Bucintoro

The Arsenale first, with a lagoon view from every room.

The trade-off

A 4-star with 21 rooms and no spa or gym. For the Giardini’s Viale Trento gate, plan about 10 minutes on foot.

Why choose it

The hotel’s own site puts the Arsenale water-bus stop 150 metres away, served by lines 1, 4.1 and 4.2 and by the Alilaguna Blue Line from the airport, and says all 21 rooms face the lagoon; Tripadvisor counts 20. The walk to Campo della Tana takes about 3 minutes, and this film of the way from the Arsenale stop, shot in 2018, shows how short it is. Of 376 Google reviews with text, 30 mention the Biennale, the Arsenale or the Giardini, every one with 4 or 5 stars, and 34 praise the quiet. All 4 noise complaints come from the waterfront, among them party boats moored outside on a Saturday in 2022 and boats at night, heard through open windows, in April 2026. In September 2026 a yacht moored in front took away one guest’s lagoon view. Booking.com guests give value for money 8.4 out of 10.

02

Ca’ di Dio

A 5-star Castello stay with both principal venues walkable.

The trade-off

About 5 minutes on foot to Campo della Tana and 12 to Viale Trento. Of its 66 rooms, 13 face the lagoon head-on, according to Condé Nast Traveler; the rest look onto the courtyards or the side canals.

Why choose it

Ca’ di Dio is on Riva Ca’ di Dio in a historic building reworked by Patricia Urquiola. Its official page describes the lagoon-facing address, the inner gardens, its own dock on the Rio dell’Arsenale, a gym and the small Pura City Spa; the Arsenale water-bus stop is outside the door. Of 345 Google reviews with text, 11 talk about the exhibition, and several guests went back to the courtyard or the bar between the 2 venues, in the 2024 heatwave too. Price is what guests criticise most, in 18 reviews; 3 guests were quoted €300 to €500 more a night for a lagoon view. On Booking.com value for money is its lowest score, 8.5 out of 10. The buffet breakfast, 7 to 10.30am, usually comes with the rate on Mr & Mrs Smith and costs extra on Expedia.

03

Hotel Indigo Venice – Sant’Elena

Giardini mornings and a quieter base beyond the busiest waterfront.

The trade-off

No room faces the water: the rooms look onto the calli of Sant’Elena or the garden. The Arsenale is a longer walk, about 18 minutes to Campo della Tana.

Why choose it

IHG lists 75 rooms on 4 floors, with no spa and no gym. The hotel’s history page traces the building to a Benedictine convent of 1439, returned to the Church in 1930 and reopened as Hotel Indigo in 2019; its home page calls it a converted 1930s monastery. From the door it is about 4 minutes on foot to the Sant’Elena entrance and 10 to Viale Trento, and the Sant’Elena water-bus stop, 2 or 3 minutes across the park, is served by lines 1, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2 and 6. Quiet is what guests praise most, in 231 of 672 Google reviews with text. The 11 noise complaints all come from inside: thin walls, carts, a loud air conditioner, garden works before 8am in April 2025. The Biennale Arte package, for stays until 23 November, adds breakfast, a welcome aperitif and 20% off standard tickets bought at the front desk. Value scores lowest of the 3, 8.2 out of 10 on Booking.com, and since 2024 more reviews complain of €400 to €500 nights.

Arsenale times refer to Campo della Tana; Giardini times to Viale Trento unless noted. Walks computed with the OSRM walking profile on OpenStreetMap streets, from each hotel’s door to the entrance. Guest counts come from each hotel’s Google reviews with text, read on 27 and 30 September 2026.

There is more than one Biennale entrance

The Biennale’s official visitor information lists 2 entrances at each principal venue. A hotel’s claim to be “near the Biennale” means little without naming the gate.

  1. For the Arsenale, the official 2026 entrances are Campo della Tana and Ponte dei Pensieri. For the Giardini they are Viale Trento and Sant’Elena on Viale IV Novembre. All 4 keep the same hours for the whole run, and the ticket desks stand at Viale Trento and on the Riva by the Arsenale water-bus stop. A route to one of these gates tells you more than a distance to “the Biennale”.

  2. The sites deserve separate time. A single Biennale Arte 2026 ticket admits you once to the Giardini and once to the Arsenale, on the same day or on different ones: €30, €20 for over-65s and Venice residents, €16 for students and anyone 26 or under, free for children up to 6. From 29 September to 22 November the gates open from 10am to 6pm, last admission 5.45pm, and the exhibition is closed on Mondays except 16 November: shut on 5, 12, 19 and 26 October and on 2 and 9 November.

  3. We favour Castello over a hotel by the station for a visit centred on the exhibition. Within Castello you still have to choose: the waterfront beside the Arsenale, a 5-star between the 2 venues, or quieter Sant’Elena, next to the Giardini.

A better 2-day plan

Choose the hotel around your first and last visit of the day.

If you have 2 days, give one to each main venue. The single ticket allows one Giardini entry and one Arsenale entry on different days; for more visits the 3-day ticket costs €40 and the weekly one €50, counted on consecutive days with closing days left out. No time slot applies: you buy the ticket and walk to a gate. Staying near either venue lets you arrive at 10am, rest without a vaporetto and still have an evening in Venice.

October and November have their own programme. From 10 to 24 October Biennale Musica fills the Arsenale’s theatres in the evenings, and its installations inside the Arsenale open to Biennale Arte ticket holders from 11am to 6pm. The Austrian Pavilion now opens Wednesday to Sunday only, 10am to 5pm, and the Dutch one closes on Tuesdays. Guided tours at set times run at weekends only, 11.15am at the Arsenale and 2.15pm at the Giardini, €10 a venue on top of the ticket. By water, line 1 stops at Giardini and lines 4.1 and 4.2 at Giardini Biennale; the Biennale’s page also lists line 2, which in ACTV’s timetable from 14 September turns back at the Giardinetti by St Mark’s.

Questions people ask before booking

Venue, gate and ticket first; hotel second.

Which hotel is closest to the Arsenale entrance?

Of these 3, Hotel Bucintoro: about 3 minutes on foot to Campo della Tana, against about 5 from Ca’ di Dio and 18 from Hotel Indigo, on walks computed along OpenStreetMap streets to the 2026 entrance.

Where should I stay for the Giardini?

Hotel Indigo, if you will use the Sant’Elena gate, about 4 minutes away on foot. Ca’ di Dio balances both venues if the Arsenale matters as much.

Is the Venice Biennale open on Mondays?

In the weeks left, only on 16 November. The Biennale is closed on 5, 12, 19 and 26 October and on 2 and 9 November, and the exhibition ends on Sunday 22 November. On the other days the gates open from 10am to 6pm, last admission 5.45pm.

How much is a Biennale Arte 2026 ticket, and can I use it on 2 days?

€30 full price, €20 for over-65s and Venice residents, €16 for students and anyone 26 or under; children up to 6 go in free. The single ticket covers one entry to the Giardini and one to the Arsenale, on the same day or on different days, with no time slot. The ticket section says it is sold online only, with a €0.50 fee; the FAQ on the same page says the infopoints at Viale Trento and on the Riva by the Arsenale sell it too.

Does “near the Biennale” mean near both sites?

No. The Biennale lists 4 entrances across its 2 venues. From Bucintoro the Arsenale is 3 minutes on foot and the Giardini’s Viale Trento gate 10; from Hotel Indigo the Sant’Elena gate is 4 minutes away and Campo della Tana 18.
