Canaves suits couples who want a quiet retreat beside Oia’s shops and a spa inside a cave, from €440 for one night for 2 adults at the lowest price any seller showed on Google. A trip that depends on step-free access throughout needs a discussion with the hotel before booking.

Like a regular

The vaulted interior of a suite, with a white sofa and the arched door open onto the terrace, where 2 guests are having breakfast.
  1. The suite to request

For 2, I would ask for a Pool Suite: its 50–55 m² include a king-size bedroom and an open-plan living room, with a private veranda and an infinity-edge pool facing the sea.

  2. The April price window

The 4–10 April 2027 run showed €440–€453 per night for 2 adults on Google, read 13 October 2026; these are nights searched separately. The highest night shown was 6 July 2027 at €3,608.

  3. Dinner beyond the room

Allow €135 per person for Petra’s 3-course dinner, with an optional wine pairing at €90 per person; VAT is included in both figures on the menu read on 14 October 2026.

  4. The departure morning routine

Before an early departure, ask for a breakfast box and have your boarding pass printed: the suite’s services include both, with printing available 24 hours a day.

What Canaves Oia Suites is

Canaves Oia Suites stands where Oia begins, on the caldera side of the main street: its own site puts it at the start of the marble path, and Panagia Platsani, the church on the main square, is 9 minutes’ walk away. It belongs to the Canaves Collection of the Chaidemenos family, who, the MICHELIN Guide says, have been turning cave dwellings into guest rooms since the 1980s. The site counts 46 suites and villas in 15 types, from the 35 m² Junior Suite to a Three Bedroom Villa of 220 m².

The private pool is the reason to choose it. Every suite has one on its terrace, a plunge pool in the smaller categories and an infinity or cave pool higher up, and breakfast is ordered from a menu beside the main pool or brought to the suite. What guests write about most is the staff, the view over the caldera and that breakfast; Petra, the restaurant of 10 tables, serves tasting menus from €135.

The cheapest suite on the hotel’s own engine started at €631 to €665 a night in late October 2026 and at €1,275 in June 2027, and a single night is hard to find in summer. In the smaller categories the private pool is a plunge pool, which the site lists as heated for the Junior Suite; the hotel’s transfer costs €110 each way, about twice what guests paid a local taxi.

One Lume

Lumina Guide 2027

Gives more than the other hotels of its place and price range.

Canaves Oia Suites gives every suite its own pool on the caldera, where Oia begins: 46 white cave suites and villas, Petra’s 10 tables and a lift through the rock.

How Lumi are awarded
  • Guests (exceptional)

359 reviews read: the location pleases more than 9 guests in 10 who mention it, breakfast more than 9 in 10.

  • Ours

We found a family that has kept hotels on Santorini since the 1980s, a spa in a former wine cave with a sauna and a Rasul steam bath, breakfast from a menu until 11am and Oia’s main square 9 minutes away on foot.

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

At the entrance to Oia, on the caldera: the main square 9 minutes on foot, the castle 14, with fewer steps than most of the village.

  2. Character

Whitewashed cave suites, run by a family that has kept hotels on Santorini since the 1980s, and a spa in a former wine cave.

  3. Rooms

35 to 220 m², every one with a private pool; layouts differ within a category, as the site itself warns.

  4. Food and social life

Petra’s tasting menus on 10 tables, a pool restaurant for lunch, breakfast from a menu until 11am.

  5. Wellness

A cave spa with a sauna and a Rasul steam bath, 2 shared pools and a gym; the spa’s floor area is not published.

  6. The stay as a whole

From €631 a night in late October 2026 and €1,275 in June 2027 on the official engine, taxes included.

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

  • Up for breakfast

Here: ordered from a menu until 11am and served beside the main pool, facing the caldera, or brought to your suite.

62 of the 65 guests who write about breakfast are pleased. 15 hotels of 335 hold it.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Canaves Oia Suites’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests return to the view over the caldera, the village within a walk and fewer steps than elsewhere in Oia.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write of the white of the cave suites, the private pool and the terrace over the caldera.

  3. Staff and service

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Waiters thanked by name, the porters, the concierge, dinner at Petra and the main pool come up again and again.

  4. Breakfast

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Breakfast is ordered from a menu and served by the pool, facing the caldera: guests write of the dishes and of the people who bring them.

  5. Price

The caldera view and the service are what earn the bill, in the eyes of those who think it fair.

The scores come from 359 Google reviews with text, left from 2 June 2013 to 3 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay on Santorini: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against on Santorini:

  • Katikies Santorini
  • Andronis Luxury Suites
  • Mystique, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Santorini
  • Canaves Epitome

What a night costs, season by season

Google showed a €725–€3,019 nightly range from 17 May to 1 August 2027, excluding isolated highs. I would compare several consecutive nights before choosing a summer arrival, because the calendar also showed individual lower nights between dearer ones.

Good to know before you book

  • Petra serves set menus only: 3 courses at €135 a person, the «O Topos Mas» degustation at €185; at the spa «Spa with a View», 75 minutes for 2, costs €480. Source: canaves.com

  • The hotel is seasonal. On its own booking engine, read on 8 October 2026, the last night on sale is 31 October 2026 and the next is 1 April 2027; the engine’s information page says it operates from 1 April to 15 November.

  • Guests must be 13 or older, for safety on the cliff: the booking engine has no option for a younger child, and the spa takes guests from 16.

  • The view is the caldera and the volcano. On the sunset guests’ accounts differ: some watched it from their terrace, others write that their suite does not see it; the castle of Oia, where the village gathers for it, is 14 minutes’ walk.

  • Plunge pools are small and their warmth varies. The Junior Suite’s is listed as heated; between October 2025 and June 2026, 3 Google reviews describe plunge pools that did not reach the temperature their guests expected.

  • The hotel’s private transfer costs €110 each way for up to 4 people. Guests in 2025 paid €40 to €60 for a local taxi over the same road, and say so in their reviews.

  • No 2 suites are alike: the site says its photographs stand for a category and that layouts differ from one suite to the next.

  • In high season a single night is rarely sold: for 12 May 2027 the engine offered one suite for 1 night and asked for 2 or 3 nights in most of the others.

Questions before you go

The questions people ask before booking Canaves Oia Suites, answered from sources read on 8 October 2026.

What kind of hotel is Canaves Oia Suites?

A 5-star hotel made only of suites and villas, on the caldera cliff at the entrance to Oia, on Santorini, one of the 4 hotels of the Canaves Collection. The MICHELIN Guide says it is run by the Chaidemenos family, who have turned cave dwellings into guest rooms since the 1980s, and the hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

It has 46 suites and villas, according to the hotel’s About page, read on 15 October 2026, whose French version the hotel edited on 5 October 2026; the MICHELIN Guide gives the same figure. Canaves Ena, Canaves Epitome and Canaves Sunday, listed beside it on every portal, are the family’s other hotels in Oia, each a separate property.

What are the suites like, and how big are they?

There are 15 types on the official site, every one with a private pool. The suites run from the 35 m² Junior Suite and the 45 m² Superior and Honeymoon suites to the River Pool Suite of 50 m², the Pool Suite and the Executive Pool Suite of 50 to 55 m² and 2 suites of 80 m² with 2 bedrooms. The signature suites are the Infinity Pool Suite at 60 m², the Presidential at 65 and the Executive Suite with Cave Pool and the Royal Pool Suite at 70.

3 villas complete the list: 70 m² with one bedroom, 140 m² with 2 and 220 m² with 3, though the largest villa’s own description says 180 m². Interiors are whitewashed and vaulted, with king beds, rain showers and Nespresso machines; the site warns that no 2 suites of a category share the same layout, decoration or pool.

Where is it, and is the area quiet?

On the main street at the entrance to Oia, at the top of the caldera cliff: the hotel’s contact page gives only «84702, Oia, Santorini», Google «Main Street, Oía». Panagia Platsani, on the main square, is 9 minutes (671 m) on foot, the blue domes viewpoint 11 minutes (817 m) and the castle 14 minutes (1,030 m), on OpenStreetMap routes measured on 8 October 2026.

Oia is crowded in season. Inside the hotel most guests write of privacy and calm: one in August 2026 found it private and peaceful while a short walk from everything, and a guest on Tripadvisor heard no noise from the common areas.

How do you get there from the airport and the port, and who carries the luggage?

By road. Santorini airport is 17 km and 21 to 31 minutes away on clear roads, and Athinios, the ferry port, 22 to 24 km and 28 to 36 minutes, worked out on OpenStreetMap on 8 October 2026. The hotel’s booking engine sells a private transfer at €110 each way for up to 4 people, with a driver who waits with a sign and helps with the bags; guests in 2025 paid €40 to €60 for a local taxi.

Luggage is the porters’ job, day and night, and the hotel describes a lift that reaches the street, the main facilities and almost every suite level, which it says no other property in Oia has. A guest in June 2026 who walked the path from Fira had the bags collected and delivered.

Is there parking?

Yes, and it is free: the official site offers complimentary private parking with charging points for electric cars, and Google Hotels, Booking.com and Expedia all list free parking. The car park is outside the hotel, by guests’ accounts: one in October 2023 describes a porter meeting them there, and one in August 2022 puts it 100 m away, on a narrow one-way road that is easy to miss.

How far is the walk to the village, the blue domes and the castle?

The marble path through Oia starts beside the hotel. On OpenStreetMap routes of 8 October 2026 the main square is 9 minutes (671 m) away, the blue domes viewpoint 11 minutes (817 m), the castle of Oia 14 minutes (1,030 m) and the bus station 10 minutes (763 m). Ammoudi, the harbour below the village, is 18 minutes (1,353 m) downhill on foot, or 4 to 5 minutes by car.

Tripadvisor grades the address 87 out of 100 for walkers.

Can you see the sunset from the hotel?

Guests disagree. The suites face the caldera and the volcano: a guest in June 2026 watched the sunset from the terrace, and a couple married on the Panorama Balcony in May 2026 mention it as well; others, in August 2024 and June 2026, write that their suite did not see it.

The official pages promise caldera views and speak only of «proximity» to the sunset point. That point is the castle of Oia, 14 minutes (1,030 m) from the hotel on foot.

Does the hotel have a beach or access to the sea?

No. It stands at the top of a cliff, and the official pages describe pools and mention neither a beach nor a bathing platform. The sea is reached at Ammoudi, the harbour below Oia, 18 minutes (1,353 m) on foot or 4 to 5 minutes by car, which is where the hotel’s yacht and catamaran trips leave from; the front desk lends beach towels.

A morning or sunset catamaran cruise of 5 hours, with swimming stops at the Red and White beaches, is sold with the suite at €230 an adult.

What are the pools like?

Every suite has its own, and there are 2 shared ones. The booking engine’s information page lists 2 freshwater pools, one of them an infinity pool, with a bar and a restaurant beside them; Expedia describes sunken loungers facing the sea and a built-in hot tub. The private pools go from plunge pools with jets in the Junior, Superior and Honeymoon suites to the 20 m² infinity pools of the Infinity and Royal Pool suites and the 35 m² pool of the largest villa.

Google Hotels says only some suites have a plunge pool; the hotel says all of them do. Neither the size nor the depth of the shared pools is published.

Are the pools heated, and when are they open?

The Junior Suite’s page lists an «Outdoor Heated Plunge Pool», and the booking engine repeats it. At either end of the season guests report plunge pools that are not always warm: in April 2026 one did not reach the 30°C its guests expected, and in late October 2025 a Pool Suite’s pool was not heated.

No official page read says whether the 2 shared pools are heated, or gives their hours. Expedia calls the outdoor pool seasonal, and the hotel itself closes for the winter.

Where do you eat, and what does it cost?

Petra is the dinner restaurant: 10 tables above the caldera, open from 7.30pm to 11pm, with chef Tasos Stefatos’s Greek tasting menus. The 3-course menu is €135 a person, the «O Topos Mas» degustation €185 and the vegetarian degustation €150, each with an optional wine pairing at €90, VAT included. Tables are booked online, the dress code is «elegant resort casual», and the hotel advises reserving early for a table at the front.

The Panorama Balcony is one table for 2 on its own terrace, from 6pm to 10pm, where the same degustation costs €350 a person. By day the pool restaurant serves Greek and Mediterranean dishes, a pool bar mixes the cocktails, and room service runs 24 hours. Breakfast, an American breakfast ordered from a menu between 8am and 11am, is in every rate on the booking engine, which sells bed and breakfast only: no half board is offered.

Visitors who are not staying may eat at the outdoor restaurant but not use the pool, a visitor wrote in July 2022.

What is the spa like?

Small and underground. The spa page places Canaves Oia Spa inside a natural cave, which the wellness page calls a 17th-century wine cave: 2 treatment rooms, a nail studio, a sauna, a Rasul steam bath under a starlit ceiling and an outdoor treatment room for couples that looks over the caldera. The products are Valmont, Cinq Mondes and Kos Paris.

Its floor area is not published. Google Hotels describes an «open-air spa», but only the couples’ room is outdoors. A separate gym has treadmills, elliptical trainers and weights, and yoga and Pilates are taught on the terraces.

Is the spa included, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are paid for, and so is the steam bath: the 2026 spa menu prices the Rasul ritual at €60 a person or €100 a couple. Most rates on the booking engine include a 10% discount on spa treatments, and Google Hotels lists the gym as free. The menu does not say whether hotel guests may use the sauna without booking a treatment, and no official page read publishes a day pass for people who are not staying.

The spa’s rules admit guests aged 16 and over.

What are the spa’s hours?

Every day from 9am to 7pm, according to the 2026 spa menu, which asks guests to arrive 15 minutes before a treatment and to give 6 hours’ notice to cancel. The gym’s hours are not published.

Which treatments are there, and at what prices?

From the 2026 spa menu: the Armonia, Oriental and Sparta massages at €190 for 55 minutes or €220 for 80, the Lava Shell and Candle massages at €210 for 75 minutes, a massage for mothers-to-be at €190. Valmont facials run from €190 for 60 minutes to €440 for the 90-minute Elixir des Glaciers, and the 75-minute Jet Lag Recovery is €250.

For couples, «Getaway in the Cave» is €450 for 1 hour 40 minutes, «Spa with a View» €480 for 75 minutes in the outdoor room and «Ultimate Couples Awakening» €800 for nearly 3 hours. Manicures and pedicures cost €70 to €100.

Can you bring children?

Only teenagers. The official questions and answers say the hotel accommodates guests aged 13 and above, for safety on the cliff and for other guests’ quiet; its booking engine has «children» of 13 to 16 and no option for anyone younger, and Booking.com says children over 13 are welcome. Expedia words it differently, «children 13 and younger are not allowed», and lists an extra bed at €150 a day; there are no cots.

The age limit of 13 covers the Three Bedroom Villa as well, according to the official questions and answers, read on 15 October 2026, which accept guests aged 13 and above for the whole hotel. The collection’s family hotel is Canaves Epitome, a separate property above Ammoudi with children’s activities.

Are there many steps, and is there a lift?

Fewer than elsewhere in Oia, by the hotel’s account: it sits at the top of the cliff and has what it calls the only lift in the village, serving almost every suite level and the street, and the Presidential Suite is entered from street level without a stair.

«Almost» matters. Some suites are still reached by many stairs, guests write in September 2025 and April 2026, while a guest in October 2023 chose the hotel because it is not far down the cliff. The official site asks guests with walking difficulties to say so before they arrive.

What is there besides the suites?

2 shared pools with a bar and a restaurant, Petra, the cave spa, a gym, yoga and Pilates classes, and a concierge who books yachts and catamarans, wine and olive-oil tastings, cooking, pottery and painting classes and helicopter tours. The front desk, room service and the porters work 24 hours, and housekeeping comes twice a day.

Wi-Fi is free and pets are not accepted. A wine tasting with the sommelier, sold with the suite, is €80 an adult.

Are there any offers?

3 standing ones on the official offers page: prepaid, non-refundable rates up to 15% lower, «Stay 5, Pay 4» and «Stay 7, Pay 6». On the booking engine, read on 8 October 2026 for 20 October, the Superior Suite’s prepaid rate was €665 against €740 with free cancellation.

A «Be Safe» prepaid rate adds travel insurance, and a «Romance Abounds» welcome of sparkling wine, chocolate, strawberries and rose petals costs €250 a suite.

Can you get married at Canaves Oia Suites?

Yes. The collection’s wedding brochure sets ceremonies on the Panorama Balcony, for a couple alone or for up to 30 guests, with dinner for up to 12 on the balcony or for 12 to 30 under the adjoining Caldera Arches. The package covers private use for up to 5 hours, until 11.30pm, a planner, recorded music, a toast and a 2-tier cake; staying at the hotel is recommended but not required.

The brochure prints no prices. The 2026 events menu prices cocktail receptions from €20 to €80 a person for 25 guests or more, with a 15% service charge on top, and a buyout takes all 48 rooms and up to 150 guests.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

No, because the hotel is closed over the winter: on its booking engine, read on 8 October 2026, nothing is sold between 1 November 2026 and 31 March 2027. No official page mentions a New Year’s Eve dinner.

Is there golf?

No official page mentions golf or a golf package. What the hotel sells is at sea and around the island: yachts and catamarans from Ammoudi, tastings, craft classes and helicopter tours.

When is it open, and when does it close?

The 2026 season ends with the night of 31 October and the next begins on 1 April 2027, on the hotel’s own booking engine read on 8 October 2026: every suite showed «sold out» from 1 to 10 November 2026, no rate at all from 11 November to 31 March, and prices again from 1 April. The 2027 calendar stops the same way, with 31 October as its last night.

The engine’s information page says the hotel «operates from Apr 1 to Nov 15», 2 weeks longer than it is selling this year. Google Hotels, read the same day, showed a price for 8 and 9 November 2026, nights the hotel is not selling, and none from 10 November to 31 January.

How much does a night cost?

On the hotel’s own booking engine, read on 8 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night with breakfast, taxes and fees included, the cheapest suite on sale cost €665 on 20 and 25 October 2026 and €631 on 31 October, the last night of the season. For 2027 it showed €567 on 1 April, the first night, €1,275 on 16 June, €1,635 on 14 July, €1,185 on 12 August, €1,545 on 15 September and €843 on 13 October. Google Hotels, read the same day, shows the lowest price from any seller, taxes and fees included: €612 on 9 October 2026, €510 on 17 October, €499 on 20 October and €471 on 31 October.

The cheapest suite changes with the night: the Superior Suite on a prepaid rate in October 2026, June and August, the Junior Suite on 31 October, 1 April and 13 October 2027, the Honeymoon Suite in July and September, when the smaller types were not sold for a single night. In high season most suites ask for a longer stay: for 12 May 2027 only the Royal Pool Suite could be booked for 1 night, at €2,815, while 3 nights from that date in a Superior Suite worked out at €1,050 a night.

The 2 sources do not always agree. For 20 October 2026 Google’s lowest seller stood at €499 while the hotel’s cheapest suite was €665; for 13 October Google jumped to €1,283; and for 8 and 9 November it showed €675 although the hotel sells nothing after 31 October. On Google’s card for 9 October the official site, Booking.com and Expedia all asked €780, of which Booking.com counted €106 as tax, and the €612 was Super.com’s.

What «all taxes» covers needs care. The engine’s terms say the Climate Resilience Tax, €15 a suite a night from 1 April to 31 October, is paid at check-out and is not in the price, while the same engine’s price data split €665 into €650 and €15 of tax.

What do the reviews say?

On 8 October 2026 Google showed 4.8/5 from 640 reviews, Tripadvisor 4.9/5 from 698, with a 2026 Travellers’ Choice award, 13th place among 68 hotels in Oia and 4.7 for value, Booking.com 9.6/10 from 87, with comfort at 9.9 and value at 8.8, and Expedia 9.8/10 from 140. The MICHELIN Guide lists the hotel without a Key and has too few guest ratings for a score.

In the 359 Google reviews with text, guests return to the staff, the view and breakfast. They also write about the price, the hotel’s transfer at €110 each way, about twice a local taxi, the stairs up to some suites and the plunge pools, which are small and not always warm at either end of the season.

What taxes and charges are added?

The booking engine shows totals «including all taxes & fees» and its terms name VAT at 13% and a city tax of 0.5%. Separately they state the Climate Resilience Tax, €15 a suite a night from 1 April to 31 October and €4 from November to March, «payable directly by guest upon check-out», although the engine’s own data count a €15 tax inside each night’s total. Google Hotels’ amounts for the Greek market include taxes and fees.

Restaurant prices include VAT, events add a 15% service charge, and Expedia mentions a fee for late check-out.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in from 3pm and check-out by 11am, on the official suite pages and the booking engine; Booking.com adds that arrivals are taken until midnight. Google Hotels gives noon for check-out, which the hotel’s own pages do not. The front desk is staffed 24 hours and prints boarding passes.
