The spa and its 2 pools
Staying guests have the pools, the hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and gym included; visitors come in on a package, from £150 a head for an evening.
Chewton Glen is an 18th-century house at New Milton in Hampshire, on the edge of the New Forest, with 14 treehouses, each with a hot tub on its deck, a spa with 2 pools and a woodland path to the sea.
A week here, month by monthFor staying put on the estate with children or a dog, Chewton Glen starts at £477 a night for 2 adults over consecutive nights in December 2026: the lowest seller’s price on Google. Anyone wanting a town to stroll after dinner, or the sea below the window, should look elsewhere.

Keep it among your hotels and see it on the budget globe, month by month.
I would ask for the Treehouse Studio Suite: 61 m² for 2 among the trees, open-plan, with a wraparound terrace, its own hot tub and the New Forest around it.
From 13 to 15 December 2026, single nights for 2 adults hold at £477–£481 on Google, read 15 October 2026. The week of 18 to 24 November swings from £406 to £644; the dearest night shown, 7 November 2026, is £1,785.
A dog adds £35 per dog per night. Dogs are welcome in a selection of rooms, including the treehouses, the suites with hot tub and the ground-floor Croquet Lawn Rooms, and the hotel asks you to confirm that room with its team before booking.
Chewton Glen is best enjoyed inside its 130 acres. In the morning the woodland path through Chewton Bunny reaches the beach between Highcliffe and Barton-on-Sea in about 20 minutes; the afternoon belongs to the spa, with its 17-metre indoor pool between the columns, the hydrotherapy pool and, from April to October, the heated outdoor pool. In between come croquet, a 9-hole par-3 golf course, indoor tennis and the cookery school.
The 14 treehouses stand on stilts in a wooded valley away from the house, each with a hot tub on the deck, a wood burner and breakfast brought to the door. For a family the hotel suggests the Loft Suite, 85 m² for 2 adults and 4 children; The Yews sleeps 4 adults and 8 children. One rule matters: under-17s may not use the deck hot tubs, nor the spa’s sauna, steam room or hydrotherapy pool.
In the house, rooms run from 30 m² Garden Rooms to the 83 m² Marryat Suite, and between 2024 and 2026 several guests found some rooms tired, Garden and Estate Rooms among them, and the spa’s pool area too. Dinner is The Dining Room, with many ingredients from the Kitchen Garden less than 100 yards away, or The Kitchen, James Martin’s more relaxed restaurant, 5 to 7 minutes’ walk away. There is no lift: anyone who needs the ground floor asks when booking.

Distinctions
Among the hotel’s regulars, 4 write of stays in the treehouses, one for a sixth time and another for a second year running. A guest writing in July 2024 comes back for the grounds and the bar, and always takes a suite. A guest who stayed regularly before their son was born wrote in July 2019 that what they valued had been looked after, with many new features added. A guest writing in November 2025 notes the newly refurbished bar and lounges. And a guest who has spent several Christmases and summers here advises booking afternoon tea in advance.
Counted only reviews that state an earlier stay at Chewton Glen; spa days, lunches and afternoon teas alone are left out.

What do Chewton Glen’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write about the lawns and gardens, the quiet, and the woodland path through Chewton Bunny that reaches the beach in about 20 minutes.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests like the spacious, quiet rooms and the treehouses; some describe Garden and Estate Rooms as tired, with dated bathrooms and furnishings.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Many thank the staff by name, at afternoon tea, at breakfast and at the treehouses; on busy days some describe waits at tea and breakfast.
6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests like the dishes cooked to order, the fresh pastries and, in the treehouses, the hamper left at the door; on busy mornings some mention late coffee and slow service.
Those who come for afternoon tea or a spa evening find it money well spent; those who find the bill high cite the drinks, dinner and the service charge on top of an expensive room.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 21 June 2022 to 14 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the New Forest: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 15 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
