Luxury hotels that take dogs: the limits and the fees

In Paris I would book Shangri-La: it takes a dog up to 10 kg, charges no fee, and your dog comes to the bar and the restaurants in a bag. For a heavier dog, Hotel de Russie in Rome takes up to 20 kg.

Chosen your hotel? Everything you need to go

8 hotels, from under 6 kg to no figure printed

Lightest limit first, each with its fee, where the dog stops and what a night costs you.

The façade of the Ritz Paris on Place Vendôme at the blue hour.

Ritz Paris

For a dog under 6 kg whose owner wants Place Vendôme and a drink at Bar Vendôme with it.

The trade-off

This is the lowest limit here, and the dog needs the hotel’s written yes before you arrive.

Why choose it

The terms1 take one dog under 6 kg per room, with written approval first, at €50 a night. They refuse category 1 and 2 dogs under French law and keep the dog on a lead in common areas. Bar Vendôme2 accepts pets under 6 kg. Espadon3 and the Ritz Club & Spa do not. The terms say a pet may not be left alone in the room or unattended when you are away from the hotel, so ask what happens during dinner at Espadon. A night for 2 costs $3,1304, the same direct.

A sitting room with red seating, mirrors and gilded details.

La Réserve Paris

For a dog up to 10 kg on a stay of 1 or 2 nights, when €50 a night beats a flat €150.

The trade-off

The fee runs every night, so a week adds €350, and Le Gabriel6 does not accept pets.

Why choose it

The terms of sale5 accept dogs up to 10 kg, one per room, at €50 a night per dog. Le Gabriel6 does not accept pets. Ask when you book where else the dog can go and whether it can stay alone in the room. A night for 2 costs $2,2457.

The Crillon’s neoclassical façade beneath a blue sky.

Hôtel de Crillon

For a week in Paris with a dog up to 10 kg, because the fee stops at €150 however long you stay.

The trade-off

On 1 or 2 nights €150 costs you more than the nightly fee at La Réserve, and the spa stays closed to the dog.

Why choose it

The hotel policy8 welcomes pets up to 10 kg in the rooms at €150 per stay and accepts them around the hotel except in Sense, A Rosewood Spa. Bar Les Ambassadeurs9 takes them too. Ask how many per room and whether one can stay alone. A night for 2 costs $1,79410 from online sellers and $2,555 direct.

An Eiffel View Room at Shangri-La Paris, its French window open on the Eiffel Tower above a wrought-iron rail.

Shangri-La Paris

For a dog up to 10 kg, and the one I would book in Paris: it is the only one of these 5 that charges no fee.

The trade-off

At the bar and in the restaurants the dog goes in a bag, and 10 kg makes a heavy bag.

Why choose it

The services page11 allows one pet up to 10 kg per room at no additional fee. It stays on a short lead and supervised in the common areas, in a bag at the bar and in the restaurants, and out of the spa. Ask whether it can stay alone in the room. A night for 2 costs $1,77012 from online sellers and $2,194 direct. That week was the cheapest of the 3 hotels here that stop at 10 kg, and the fee you skip against La Réserve comes to €350.

The Marble Courtyard with tables, flowers and white façades.

Four Seasons Hotel George V

For a dog of 10 to 11 kg, because this is the highest limit of the 5 in Paris.

The trade-off

It holds €250 or €520 on your card, so ask what that hold becomes.

Why choose it

The accommodations page13 welcomes small and medium pets up to 11 kg. On arrival it takes a pre-authorisation of €250 per room or €520 per suite to cover deep cleaning at departure, and carpet replacement can come on top if the dog does damage. So ask in writing what the hold becomes, where the dog can go and whether it can stay alone. A night for 2 costs $2,72514 from online sellers and $2,886 direct.

The Secret Garden at dusk: stone stairways and balustrades lit by small lamps climb the slope in terraces among trees and clipped shrubs.

Hotel de Russie

For a dog up to 20 kg, or 2 dogs up to 10 kg each: nothing else here prints a limit that high.

The trade-off

Dinner indoors is off, the dog can’t stay alone, and some listings still say no pets.

Why choose it

The hotel’s page15 welcomes pets up to 20 kg, one per room, or 2 of up to 10 kg each, unless the management approves otherwise. A deep clean costs €150 once per stay. The dog stays on a lead or in a basket in public areas, is never left alone in the room, and keeps out of indoor restaurants and bars, the spa and the gym. The rule names indoor outlets only, so ask about a table outside. The MICHELIN Guide16 says no pets, and I would trust the hotel. A night for 2 costs $2,11617 from online sellers and $2,364 direct.

The entrance courtyard of Rosewood London seen through the wrought-iron gate: the pale stone Edwardian façade and 2 small potted trees.

Rosewood London

For a dog that comes to dinner: every restaurant and bar takes it on a lead, for free.

The trade-off

No weight limit is printed, so a big dog needs the hotel’s yes before you book.

Why choose it

The room pages18 welcome cats and dogs free of charge, in all food and beverage outlets, always on a leash. The spa and the fitness rooms stay closed to them. The page calls you a parent, the dog’s mess a “deposit”, and asks you to pick it up. Ask about weight, number of pets and leaving one alone in the room. A night for 2 costs $78919 from online sellers and $938 direct.

The outdoor tub of the Huntsman Spa Suite, with the Matterhorn behind it.

CERVO Mountain Resort

For Zermatt with a well-behaved dog, welcome everywhere.

The trade-off

For the week of 15 March 2027 it cost $1,173 a night more than the Zermatterhof23, which takes small pets.

Why choose it

The good-to-know page20 welcomes well-behaved dogs everywhere, at CHF 35 a night for the extra cleaning, a bed and a water bowl. If the dog stays alone in the room, talk to reception about when they can clean. In the village Zermatt requires a lead. In January a night for 2 costs $1,98221.

Rules are the hotels’ own. Prices are a night for 2 on a 7-night stay from 14 December 2026, with taxes; CERVO’s stay starts on 18 January 2027. The dog’s fee comes on top. Prices from Google Hotels, 13 October 2026, and 22 October for CERVO.

What decides a hotel with a dog

4 things change from one hotel to the next, and the first can end the search.

  • The weight. It runs from under 6 kg at the Ritz1, about 13 lb, to 11 kg at the George V13 and 20 kg at the Hotel de Russie15, about 44 lb. Rosewood London18 and CERVO20 print no figure, so send them your dog’s.

  • The fee. Shangri-La11 and Rosewood London18 charge nothing. The Ritz1 and La Réserve5 charge €50 a night and CERVO20 CHF 35. The Crillon8 and the Hotel de Russie15 charge €150 a stay. The George V13 holds €250 or €520 on your card, and that hold may not be charged in full.

  • Dinner. Rosewood London18 lets the dog into every restaurant and bar on a lead, and Shangri-La11 in a bag. The Ritz2 allows it at Bar Vendôme and refuses it at Espadon3, Le Gabriel6 refuses it at La Réserve, and the Hotel de Russie15 keeps it out of indoor restaurants and bars.

  • The room when you go out. The Hotel de Russie15 says the dog must never stay there alone. The Ritz1 says a pet may not be left alone in the room or unattended when you are away from the hotel. CERVO20 only asks you to tell reception, so it can time the cleaning. At the other 5, ask.

What the fee adds, and who says no

Count your nights first, then ask before you book.

On the 7 nights priced here the dog adds nothing at Shangri-La11 and Rosewood London18, €150 at the Crillon8 and the Hotel de Russie15, CHF 245 at CERVO20 and €350 at the Ritz1 and La Réserve5. At 3 nights €50 a night and €150 a stay come to the same. From 4 nights the flat fee wins.

Say it when you book and keep the answer in writing. The Ritz1 wants its approval first, and the Zermatterhof22 wants the breed and the weight. Listings can contradict the hotel, as they do at the Hotel de Russie16.

Some hotels say no: The Omnia27 in Zermatt admits pets in no part of the hotel. Lake Como is unclear, so I left it off this list. Villa d’Este’s Sporting Club rules28 keep animals off the property in the season, while BringFido29 and Trip.com30 say dogs are welcome. At Grand Hotel Tremezzo Booking.com31 lets pets in free and Expedia32 says no. Ask the hotel, at Passalacqua33 too.

Questions before you pack the lead

Weight, fees, dinner, and the hours you spend out of the room.

Which luxury hotel in Paris takes the biggest dog?

Of the 5 here it is the George V13, up to 11 kg. La Réserve, the Crillon and Shangri-La stop at 10 kg. Le Bristol36 accepts pets up to 7 kg, says it is very flexible if the pet is well behaved, and charges €100 a day.

Which of these Paris hotels charges nothing for a dog?

Shangri-La11 charges no fee, for one pet up to 10 kg. The Ritz, La Réserve and the Crillon charge one. The George V13 takes a pre-authorisation on arrival, which may not be charged in full, so ask.

Is the dog’s fee per night or per stay?

The Ritz1, La Réserve5 and CERVO20 charge per night. The Crillon8 and the Hotel de Russie15 charge €150 per stay, and Le Meurice35 €40 a day per animal.

Can my dog come to the restaurant with me?

Yes at Rosewood London18, in every restaurant and bar on a lead, and yes at Shangri-La11, in a bag. At the Ritz it can go to Bar Vendôme2 under 6 kg, and Espadon3 refuses it. Le Gabriel6 refuses pets too, and the Hotel de Russie15 bans them from indoor restaurants and bars. Bar Les Ambassadeurs9 at the Crillon takes pets up to 10 kg, and CERVO20 says dogs are welcome everywhere.

Can I leave my dog alone in the hotel room?

The Hotel de Russie15 says never. The Ritz1 says a pet may not be left alone in the room or unattended when you are away from the hotel, so ask what happens while you are at dinner downstairs. CERVO20 only asks you to tell reception, so it can time the cleaning. At La Réserve, the Crillon, Shangri-La, the George V and Rosewood London, ask before you plan a dinner out.

Can I bring 2 dogs?

The Hotel de Russie15 takes 2 if each weighs up to 10 kg, and Le Meurice34 up to 2 small dogs under 7 kg per room. The Ritz1, La Réserve5 and Shangri-La11 allow one per room.

Which Zermatt hotels take dogs?

CERVO20 takes them at CHF 35 a night. The Zermatterhof22 takes small pets at CHF 45 a night, keeps them out of its indoor restaurants and spa, and collects you by electric vehicle because dogs can’t ride the horse-drawn carriage. Riffelalp24 takes dogs with notice and keeps them out of Restaurant Alexandre and the wellness areas. Expedia25 and BringFido26 list CHF 20 a night, so ask. The Omnia27 admits none, so I would strike it off.
