Q: How much more is a lake view room on Lake Como?

€640 a night at Villa d’Este19 from the garden to the lake, and €1,400 before tax at Grand Hotel Tremezzo32 from the park to the lake, both from 18 May 2027. At Tremezzo the junior suites stand €900 apart.

Q: How much more is an Eiffel Tower view room in Paris?

At Shangri-La Paris23, €880 a night over the Terrace Room of the same size, which has a terrace, and €1,253 over the Superior, from 2 March 2027, with taxes and no breakfast.

Q: Is a sea view worth it on the Amalfi Coast?

At Caruso28 the step between 2 suites of about the same size was €110 a night from 18 May 2027 and €385 from 8 June29, and I would pay both if you plan to live on the terrace. From the entry double to the first sea room it was €1,082 in May, and if you will be out all day I would keep that money.

Q: Is a sunset water villa worth more than a sunrise one in the Maldives?

At Kuda Huraa8 the sunset side cost $260 a night more for 9 to 12 February 2027, and I would pay that if you will be in the villa at dusk. The step changes with the date: $513 for 10 November and $193 for 10 January11.

At Villa d’Este one visitor22 did, on the terrace, so ask the hotel before you count on it. Once you are staying, the view room is less of a must: a guest at Kuda Huraa12 rates the Sunset Bar for sundowners.

For 2 to 5 February 2027 the view adds CHF 59 a night at the Zermatterhof, which I would pay: the room keeps its size and the Matterhorn comes with it. At Tremezzo, in May, it adds €1,400 a night before tax.

7 hotels, room against room

Each card opens on 2 rooms of about the same size, one with the view, and gives the entry room too. They run from the smallest opening step to the largest, and the eighth hotel, the Zermatterhof, comes after them.

Caruso, A Belmond Hotel

For a stay in Ravello spent mostly at the hotel, when the terrace is where you plan to read, eat and do nothing. At €110 a night I would take the sea.

The trade-off

The step moved with the date, and the sea suite gives up the Superior Suite’s separate living room for an open layout³⁰.

Why choose it

For 18 to 21 May 2027 Booking.com²⁸ sold, with breakfast, taxes and free cancellation, the Superior Suite at €9,600 and the Sea View Suite with Garden at €9,930. That is €110 a night for 55 to 60 m² and 50 to 60 m²³⁰. The Superior’s balcony looks at the church of San Giovanni del Toro or Ravello’s rooftops, and the sea suite has a terrace and a private garden with a view of the coast. For 8 to 11 June²⁹ the same pair cost €12,570 and €13,725, so the step rose to €385. In May the entry room, the Superior Double Room With Garden, cost €6,025 and the first sea room, the Premium Junior Suite with Terrace, €9,270: €1,082 a night. The hotel also lists a Deluxe Sea View Room with Balcony, and Booking had none on sale for either stay, so ask the hotel: one guest³¹ tells you to splurge on a deluxe sea view.

Mont Cervin Palace

For a couple who came to Zermatt to look at the mountain, and it is the suite I would book there: CHF 169 a night turns the balcony to the Matterhorn and keeps the size.

The trade-off

The small step sits on a big bill, CHF 5,157 for 3 nights, and the hotel gives the words “very quiet location” to the Classic suite⁵.

Why choose it

For 2 to 5 February 2027 Booking.com⁴ sold the Alpine 1-Bedroom Suite at CHF 4,651 and the Alpine 1-Bedroom Suite with Matterhorn View at CHF 5,157, both with free cancellation until 19 January. The hotel calls them Alpine Suite Classic⁵ and Alpine Suite Matterhorn⁶, both 54 to 65 m². You swap a balcony with the morning sun and the Zermatt mountains for a south balcony on the Matterhorn, and the hotel describes a work and dining table on the Classic and a comfortable lounge on the other. The entry room, the Petit Cervin Classic in the annexe, cost CHF 3,049, so from there the step is CHF 703 a night, and Booking had no double with the Matterhorn on sale. For 9 to 12 March only Matterhorn suites were left. Ask what breakfast adds. At least 5 guests⁷ since 2023 write that they were upgraded to the view. I would not plan on it.

Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa

For couples who will spend the evening on their own deck, with the sun going down in front of the pool.

The trade-off

The step moves a lot with the date, and one guest¹² rates the Sunset Bar for sundowners.

Why choose it

For 9 to 12 February 2027 Booking.com⁸ sold the Sunrise Water Villa with Pool¹⁰ at $9,197 and the Sunset Water Villa with Pool⁹ at $9,975, breakfast and taxes included, with free cancellation. That comes to $260 a night for the same 70 m² villa and 66 m² deck, on stilts over the lagoon, and the resort lists the view as ocean, lagoon and sunset. The Sunset Beach Villa asks about the same over its Sunrise twin: $10,497 against $9,725. The cheapest room on sale for that stay was the Deluxe Beach Pavilion at $6,346. The same step was $513¹¹ a night for 10 November and $193 for 10 January. One guest¹² with a sunset villa in 2020 found the afternoon currents too strong to jump in.

Junior Suite River View: a king bed and a window onto the Embankment’s trees

The Savoy

For a London trip built around the Thames, when you want the bridges in front of the sofa at night.

The trade-off

The cheaper way in is the 34 m² Luxury King Garden View, and its own page¹⁷ speaks of Embankment and river at once, so ask what you will see.

Why choose it

For 2 to 5 March 2027 Booking.com¹³ sold, with free cancellation and no breakfast, the Junior Suite¹⁵ on the city or the courtyard at £3,855 and the Junior Suite River View¹⁴ at £4,905. That is £350 a night for 2 suites of about the same size, 40 and 39 m². The hotel describes a private foyer on the plain suite and seats turned to the Thames on the other. From the entry room, the 27 m² Superior Queen¹⁶ at £2,385 over the courtyard or the city, the step is £840 a night. Between them sits the Luxury King Garden View at £3,195, £150 a night above the plain Luxury King. The hotel files it under river views, Booking promises direct Thames views and the name says garden. From a river room one guest¹⁸ saw Parliament, Big Ben and the bridges lit up at night.

A Deluxe Room with the bed and the lake at the window

Villa d’Este

For a short stay on Lake Como when the water is the reason you came and €640 a night does not hurt.

The trade-off

The lake room can be the smaller one: 35 to 40 m², against 30 to 50 m² for the Executive on the gardens²¹.

Why choose it

For 18 to 21 May 2027 the hotel’s site¹⁹ showed the Classic on the courtyard at €1,850 a night, the Executive²¹ on the gardens at €2,100 and the Deluxe²⁰ over the lake at €2,740, with breakfast, taxes and free cancellation up to 14 days before arrival. Garden to lake is €640 a night, and the junior suites show the same step: €3,400 and €4,040. From the Classic it is €890. Among the suites the step falls to €104, €5,966 and €6,070, because the Executive Suite already has part of the lake. One visitor²² came only for the terrace, had a coffee and wrote about the view.

Shangri-La Paris

For a Paris trip that exists for the tower, when you will be back in the room to watch it sparkle.

The trade-off

The entry room looks at a glass cupola or a courtyard, so you will feel the difference, and you will pay €1,253 a night for it.

Why choose it

For 2 to 5 March 2027 Booking.com²³ sold, with free cancellation and no breakfast, the King Room With Eiffel Tower View at €9,856. The hotel calls it the Eiffel View Room²⁴: 45 m², with the tower through French windows. The Terrace Room²⁵, also 45 m², with a terrace on the garden or the avenues, cost €7,216, so the tower costs €880 a night more, and you give up the terrace. From the 36 m² Superior at €6,096, which looks at the La Bauhinia cupola or the courtyard²³, the step is €1,253. For a partial view²⁶ the Junior Suite and the Junior Suite Paris View, both 55 m², stood €500 a night apart with breakfast: €11,316 and €12,816. One guest²⁷ writes of waking up to it and of watching it sparkle at night, which is the case for paying.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo

For a lake stay lived on the balcony, if a road under the window does not bother you.

The trade-off

The Regina road runs along the front, and one guest³⁶ booked the garden side in 2018 for the quiet and did not regret it.

Why choose it

For 18 to 21 May 2027 the hotel’s site³² showed the Park View Deluxe³⁵, the cheapest room it offered, at €2,000 a night and the Lake View Deluxe³⁴ at €3,400, bed and breakfast, before taxes and fees. That is €1,400 a night for the same 40 m². The lake Deluxe³⁴ also sits at a corner of the hotel, with a balcony, double windows and a third in the bathroom, and the park room has a bow window. The junior suites show a smaller step, €3,800 and €4,700. If I wanted the lake here I would look at the Terrace Garden Suite³² at €3,900, in the park, with a lake-view terrace. For 8 to 11 June³³ the site showed suites only, so the Deluxe pair may not be there when you look.

Each gap compares 2 rooms on the same stay and rate, for 2 adults. Booking.com totals are for 3 nights with taxes, and I divide by 3. Villa d’Este’s nights include taxes, Grand Hotel Tremezzo’s do not. Prices from 31 October 2026, and from 3 October for Kuda Huraa’s November and January gaps.

What decides whether a view is worth the money

The gap on the listing can mean 4 different things, so settle these before you compare.

The 2 rooms. The entry room is often smaller too, so that step buys space along with the view. At Shangri-La Paris²³ the 36 m² Superior sits €1,253 a night under the 45 m² Eiffel View Room, and the 45 m² Terrace Room²⁵ sits €880 under it, with a terrace you give up.
The rate. Cancellation terms can move a bill more than a window does. On one stay at the Savoy¹³, the flexible Superior Queen costs £239 a night more than the non-refundable one, so 2 prices at 2 rates tell you nothing about the view.
The date. At Kuda Huraa¹¹ the sunset villa cost $513 a night more for 10 November and $193 more for 10 January. A gap belongs to one stay, so check yours.
The words. Shangri-La²⁶ calls the tower partial in its Junior Suite Paris View, and the Savoy¹³ sells a One Bedroom Suite Partial River View. If the listing says partial, ask what you see from the bed.

The Matterhorn for CHF 59, and what to ask

The smallest step on a double on this page, and 2 questions before you pay.

On the same Bahnhofstrasse as Mont Cervin Palace, the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof asks less. For 2 to 5 February 2027 its own site¹ showed the 30 m² Deluxe Double³ over the village at CHF 3,119 and the 30 m² Deluxe Double Matterhorn View at CHF 3,297, with breakfast and free cancellation until 19 January, city tax on top. The hotel mentions a rain shower and bathtub on the Matterhorn room alone. That is CHF 59 a night, and Booking.com² shows the same CHF 59: CHF 3,263 and CHF 3,441 with taxes. For 9 to 12 March Booking had no Deluxe rooms on sale, and its junior suites stood CHF 51 a night apart: CHF 4,144 and CHF 4,298. Of everything I priced, this is the step I would pay first, in a room half the size of Mont Cervin’s suite.

Before you pay, ask which floor the category sits on and whether you see the view from the bed or from a balcony. Most categories name a side of the building and say nothing of the floor. The Zermatterhof says some rooms have a balcony³, and at Tremezzo one guest³⁶ heard the road on the upper floors with the blinds down.

Then read the bill line by line. Tremezzo’s figures are before taxes and fees, so I would expect that step to be larger at checkout. The Maldives price above includes GST and the environment fee, and at the Zermatterhof Booking.com adds CHF 24 of city tax and a VAT line of about CHF 119 to almost the same figure, so ask the hotel whether its price already includes VAT. Ask for the 2 rooms at one rate, on your dates, in one email, and let the hotel put the difference in writing.
