Capella suits couples who want time at the hotel between walks through Hanoi, with Google’s lowest seller showing VND 12,457,984 for one night taken alone for 2 adults from May 2027. For afternoons by an outdoor pool, I would choose elsewhere.

Our verdict

The white Art Deco façade with its balconies, a gilded winged figure on the roof

Capella Hanoi opened on 1 April 2021 (Remote Lands, Bensley studio), and Bill Bensley designed every piece of it, furniture and lamps included, around an invented story: a 1920s «petite auberge» where singers, composers and costume designers gathered once the curtain had fallen, 47 characters for 47 rooms (Bensley). In October 2025 it became the first hotel in Vietnam with 3 MICHELIN Keys (press releases); on 1 October 2026 the MICHELIN Guide gave it a verified guest score of 19.9 out of 20.

Rooms run from the 15 Premier Rooms of 35 m², with a French balcony over a residential courtyard, to the 194 m² Grand Opera Suite on the top floor, with a kitchen, a rooftop jacuzzi and a table for 10 (accommodation). The hotel’s factsheet prints other figures, Premier Suites of up to 69 m² against 67 and 2 Opera Suites against 4; the website, which gives each suite its own size, is the more precise of the 2.

The rate includes a Champagne breakfast à la carte for 2 at Backstage, the Living Room from 6am to 6:30pm with drinks, snacks and cakes at 3pm, the evening jazz, the pool, the wet zone and the gym (guest benefits). Downstairs, Hibana by Koki holds a MICHELIN star at a 14-seat teppanyaki counter; Backstage is MICHELIN Selected, and The Hudson Rooms, on the roof, is No. 46 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026 (dining).

We read the 500 most recent Google reviews with text, written between March 2025 and 1 October 2026, out of the 1,467 on the listing: 472 give 5 stars. Guests praise the service above all, then the operatic detail of the rooms, no 2 alike, and breakfast at Backstage. Some rooms hear the city, and this autumn rates started at VND 16 million a night, about €555: those who stay write that it is worth it, with breakfast, afternoon cakes in the Living Room and the evening jazz included.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Capella Hanoi’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. The lake, the Opera House and the Old Quarter are all on foot; guests write of a quiet hotel in the middle of the city.

  2. Room

  4. Breakfast

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Breakfast is at Backstage, with Vietnamese and Western dishes made to order: guests write of the pho, of the choice and of the fact that it comes with the room.

  5. Price

5 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. The rate includes breakfast at Backstage, afternoon cakes in the Living Room and the evening jazz; guests write that the service is worth the money.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 5 March 2025 to 1 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Hanoi: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 1 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Hanoi:

  • Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi
  • Hotel de l'Opera Hanoi - MGallery
  • JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi
  • Lotte Hotel Hanoi
  • InterContinental Hanoi Westlake

Check-in needs photo ID and a card, and arrivals are possible until 11:30pm (Booking.com). The hotel publishes no guidance on tipping.

No: it is a city hotel, with no sea and no golf, and it offers no golf packages. The nearest water is Hoan Kiem Lake, 9 minutes away on foot.

Do I need a car, and where can I park?

For walks through the French Quarter I would leave the car behind; if driving, I would confirm the parking location with the hotel before arrival, as free parking is listed nearby.
