I come to Palafitte for the terrace over Lake Neuchâtel, with a ladder down into the water. Only the 24 Lake Pavilions have it, though: the 14 Shore Pavilions stand on the bank, with a path between them and the lake.

For 2, the bathroom matters: open its movable walls and the lake is in view from the bath.

Like a regular

  1. Winter in the pavilion

Until 31 March 2027, the Cocooning package covers the night, breakfast, a 4-course dinner and tea served in the pavilion: from CHF 650 for 2 in a Shore Pavilion, CHF 760 in a Lake Pavilion.

  2. By e-bike

From April, reception hires out e-bikes, CHF 35 for half a day and CHF 60 for a full day; an electric scooter costs CHF 60 a day and needs a driving licence.

  3. The wellbeing pavilion

From 1 November to 30 April, the wellbeing pavilion can be booked for 2 for 3 hours, at CHF 700: a scrub, a 1-hour massage, a facial and a hot tub, open to non-residents too.

What Hôtel Palafitte is

Palafitte was built in 2002 for Expo.02, the Swiss national exhibition, by the architect Kurt Hofmann working with students of the École hôtelière de Lausanne. The stilts recall a find from the area: archaeologists discovered the oldest remains of houses in Switzerland here, also built on stilts. It is one of the last landmarks of that exhibition. Today the pavilions are furnished as junior suites.12

How we choose the hotels

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Hôtel Palafitte’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest has a bus stop just outside and reaches central Neuchâtel easily. Another, in a Shore Pavilion, can still hear the motorway cutting next door.

  2. Room

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest finds the pavilion on stilts very large, bright and carefully decorated. Another, in the second row, has the lake view almost hidden by the pavilions in front and finds the room in need of renovation.

  3. Staff and service

One guest is given a welcome cocktail at the waterside bar and is driven to the pavilion in a golf cart. Another has housekeeping ring and walk into the room without permission.

  4. Breakfast

6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest finds the buffet very complete and likes ordering eggs just as they wish. Another pays CHF 38 for a buffet with little choice and dull bread.

  5. Price

One guest pays CHF 61 at the lakeside bar for a bottle of local Chardonnay that retails at around CHF 19.50. Another, on a first getaway with their 4-month-old daughter, finds the room expensive but well worth it.

178 guests said so on Google, from 22 November 2024 to 20 October 2026. The reviews include visits to restaurants and bars without an overnight stay. The other hotels are assessed on the same 5 themes. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against among Swiss five-star hotels:

Price: for 2, the night of 26 October 2026, from 298 CHF on Google Hotels on 23 October 2026.

What a night costs, period by period

Until early May 2027 a night costs less; then prices rise, most of all in July and August.

One night searched alone for 2 adults, at the lowest seller on Google Hotels; room category, meals and taxes unspecified, read on 23 October 2026. The calendar ends on 17 September 2027 and showed no price for the nights of 20 and 21 December 2026 or from 23 December 2026 to 29 January 2027. Booked together as 7 nights from 16 to 23 November 2026 for 2 adults, the lowest seller asked CHF 315 a night; the hotel’s own Google Hotels listing showed no rate.
