Contemporary cooking with local ingredients; breakfast from 6.30am to 11am.
Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo in Panama City brings 159 rooms and suites to the Pacific waterfront, in the old quarter’s former Club Unión.
A week here, month by monthFor old-town walks with a pool to come back to, stay here from $234 a night, the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night for 2 adults. For a holiday spent swimming in the sea, I would add a beach stay outside the city.

Keep it among your hotels and see it on the budget globe, month by month.
For 2, I would ask for the Ocean Front Luxury 1 King: 50 m² and a terrace with outdoor seating facing the ocean, somewhere to have coffee before going out into the old quarter.
Try 15–17 July 2027: the single-night calendar read on 16 October 2026 showed $234–242 a night for 2 adults. Its dearest night was 14 January 2027, at $1,327.
Parking is not included, so allow for it if you drive to Casco Viejo. With check-in from 3pm and check-out by noon, I would confirm parking arrangements before arrival.
The pool has recliners set in a shallow section, with a table for your drink. I would leave time for a swim before 6pm, when the pool closes, rather than save the swim until after dinner.
This is a good base for a stay split between the old quarter and the hotel: Casco Viejo’s streets and squares in the morning, a swim later, the skyline from Ammi in the evening. The former 1917 Club Unión now holds 159 rooms and suites, with bars and events that give the building a social life after dinner.
The room category determines how much of the setting you see. Superior Rooms start at 35 m², facing the courtyard or offering a partial sea view. Luxury Oceanfront adds a furnished terrace; Oceanfront Junior, Oceanfront Prestige and Legendary have L-shaped balconies. Suite bookings include butler service.
Caleta cooks with local ingredients, Vera Café serves coffee from Panama’s highlands and Mayda offers afternoon tea. KOS Paris spa treatments are paid separately. Guest accounts also repeatedly mention musty odours and humidity in rooms; these sit alongside broad praise for space, service and location, and remain reports of individual experiences.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 19 June 2024 to 14 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Panama City: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 16 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
