Tea on the verandah
Verandah Café, open noon to 10.30pm, serves afternoon tea with champagne; through the arches you see the gardens and, beyond them, Moti Doongri fort.
Rambagh Palace in Jaipur is the Maharaja’s former residence, now a Taj hotel with 78 rooms and suites on 47 acres of gardens where peacocks walk the lawns.
Rambagh suits couples who want slow afternoons, tea on the verandah and a drink in Steam’s railway carriage, with the lowest seller on Google showing a night for 2 adults from INR 61,360 in June 2027. For days spent walking into the bazaars, I would choose a base inside the city walls.
Official site Rooms and suitesWould you go?
Keep it among your hotels and see it on the budget globe, month by month.
The recently renovated Historical Suites have Rajasthani artwork, a bedroom with a separate living room and a Jacuzzi in the bathroom; I would ask for one. Each measures 65–70 m² and sleeps up to 3.
From 13 to 16 June 2027, single nights for 2 adults ranged from INR 61,360 to INR 62,068 on Google, read on 17 October 2026. The dearest night shown, 24 February 2027, was INR 438,944.
The spa menu prices treatments before government taxes. A treatment in your room costs 1.5 times its menu price, and one booked outside spa hours, with notice, adds INR 1,200.
A performance is held at the palace every evening, with Kathak, one of India’s classical dance forms, telling Rajasthani stories. I would keep the early evening free for it.
Rambagh began in 1835 as a garden house, became a royal guesthouse and hunting lodge, and then the home of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. Taj has run it since 1972. The palace still stands in 47 acres inside the city, and the grounds make the stay: the Mughal garden behind the courtyard, the croquet lawn, the peacocks that guests feed in the afternoon.
Palace Rooms, 46–51 m², come with a king bed or twin beds and look onto a garden or courtyard. Historical Suites, 65–70 m², add a separate living room and a Jacuzzi; from the Royal Suite (102–107 m²) upwards, a butler comes with the room. The Grand Presidential Suites, 167 m², have their own terrace and dining room.
Evenings pass in a handful of rooms. On the verandah, afternoon tea comes with champagne and a view across the lawns to Moti Doongri fort; Steam serves cocktails in a restored railway carriage; Suvarna Mahal lays royal Indian dinners beneath the frescoes of the old ballroom. In the reviews guests praise the setting; several write that the cooking does not match its price.

Rambagh Palace in Jaipur is the Maharaja’s former residence, now a Taj hotel with 78 rooms and suites on 47 acres of gardens where peacocks walk the lawns.
How we choose the hotelsWhat we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.
47 acres of gardens, 6.6 km from the City Palace
The Maharaja’s residence, run by Taj since 1972
5 categories, from 46 m² Palace Rooms to 167 m² Grand Presidential Suites
Suvarna Mahal, Rajput Room, Verandah Café, Steam and Polo Bar
Indoor and outdoor pools and J Wellness Circle’s spa tents
A stay with afternoons free for the lawns, the tea and the evening dances
What do Rambagh Palace’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Every guest who mentions it is happy with it. A 47-acre park inside the city: guests write of quiet gardens and peacocks a short drive from Jaipur’s monuments.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Spacious, spotless rooms furnished like palace chambers; guests who took a suite praise its space.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests remember the welcome, the butlers and the surprises laid on for birthdays and anniversaries; others write of rooms not ready at 2pm and waits in the restaurants.
Few write about it: they recall breakfast on the verandah and a flute playing in the morning, with a small buffet and dishes à la carte.
The bill is high even for those who find it fair, because they are paying for the palace and gardens; those who dispute it point to the restaurants’ cooking.
On location it comes ahead of the 5 other hotels it is compared with in Jaipur.
| What | Score out of 10 | Guests who mention it | Happy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | 8.7 | 43 | 100% |
| Room | 8.0 | 48 | 94% |
| Staff and service | 7.8 | 224 | 82% |
| Breakfast | 7.1 | 5 | 60% |
| Price | – | 15 | 47% |
The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 17 July 2025 to 15 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Jaipur: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 17 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in Jaipur:
