I would bring the book I keep postponing and leave part of each day free for the lake. For work filled with online meetings, I would choose another base: this is a stay that needs time without a programme.

Is it for you?

For 2, I would book enough time to use the unscheduled hours. Spending every day away and returning only to sleep would lose a substantial part of the reason for coming.

I’d ask for
The particular bedroom, time on the lake and the dinner plans.
Worth knowing
The stay is built around the life of the house; choose it only if that rhythm appeals to both of you.
The Point

Like a regular

The house’s fireplace and seating
  1. Let lunch follow the walk

For lunch away from the house, I would look at Camp David or a wilderness island. Settle the arrangement with the kitchen before heading out for a walk.

  2. A game in The Pub

The Pub has pool, cards and puzzles. I like having somewhere to settle when the weather changes the outdoor programme.

  3. Check the weather before the programme

Archery and the estate trails add choices to the day. I would establish which activities are practical for the dates, then leave enough time to enjoy one without rushing.

What The Point is

The Point occupies a Great Camp built for the Rockefeller family on Upper Saranac Lake. The 11 bedrooms occupy the 4 original log buildings. The landscape remains outside the windows; timber and fireplaces hold the house together within.

The rate covers meals, afternoon tea, wines and spirits, along with sports equipment and facilities. Communal dinner in the Great Hall is part of staying here. I would happily come to meet the other people who have travelled this far for similar reasons.

The season changes the day outdoors. In summer, the lake makes room for boats and canoes; in winter, cross-country skis and snowshoes take you into the woods. I would choose which holiday I want before choosing the bedroom.

The Point reviews

Before your stay

What does a night cost?

For 2 adults, one night on 16 December 2026 starts at $3,400; on 3 January 2027 at $3,400; and on 11 February 2027 at $3,400. Each night was searched separately; check the room, meals, taxes and cancellation terms in the chosen quote. Prices from Google Hotels, 4 November 2026.

What is the minimum age?

Guests must be at least 21. The minimum applies to everyone staying.

How does dinner work, and what should I wear?

Dinner starts at 8pm: 4 courses, or 7 on Wednesday and Saturday. Men are asked to wear a jacket and tie, and women a cocktail dress. Wednesday and Saturday are black tie evenings.

What do I pay when booking?

The deposit is $500 per room per night. The balance is due at least 60 days before arrival; reservations made within that window are paid in full when booking.

How does cancellation work?

For cancellation at least 60 days before arrival, the refund retains a $300 processing fee. Closer to arrival, the booking becomes non-cancellable, non-refundable and non-moveable, including the taxes.

Can I connect for work?

Wi-Fi is available in the Gallery and can be provided in the bedroom on request. Calls and online meetings are permitted in the privacy of the bedroom; for using a computer in a shared space, I would use the Gallery.

Which airport would I use?

Adirondack Regional Airport at Saranac Lake is about 10–15 minutes away. Albany and Montréal are larger-airport options, each requiring roughly 2¼–3 hours by car. Settle the transfer alongside the flight times.

Can I bring my dog?

A stay with your dog can be arranged. Give advance notice alongside your room choice and travel requirements.

What would I do when the lake freezes?

Ice skating, curling and ice fishing belong to the winter programme. Conditions on the lake determine the activities, so I would confirm them for the travel dates.

Can I reserve the estate for a private event?

You can reserve the whole estate for a private event, including the Pub and activities. A booking of 6 rooms or more requires exclusive use.
