The pools
One indoor and one outdoor, heated all year, plus an infinity pool in summer (pools).
In 1918 Spencer Penrose wanted a European grande dame at the foot of the Rockies. The Broadmoor is still there, pink, around Cheyenne Lake at 1,900 metres, with 3 golf courses and a camp in the clouds.
A week here, month by monthThe Broadmoor suits families and golfers wanting a grand hotel and mountain air: for one night in January and February 2027 the lowest price any seller showed on Google for 2 adults was $417. For a mountain lodge’s quiet, choose Cloud Camp.

I would ask for a Lakeside Patio Suite: a king bed in the Lakeside Building, a private balcony or lake-level patio and a gas fireplace in a seating area, with peaceful views of the water.
In the calendar read on 13 October 2026 the lowest week is 11–17 January 2027: nights for 2 adults from $417 to $444. The dearest week, 24–30 May 2027, ran from $787 to $803.
Room rates carry 10.20% tax, and a $45 daily resort charge per room is added, plus taxes; rates include no meals. Overnight parking costs $35 a night self-parked, with unlimited in-and-out, or $50 with a valet.
At the Penrose Room gentlemen wear a jacket with slacks or dressy denim, boys from 12 years old too, and loaners come in junior and adult sizes; the Penrose Lounge may be enjoyed without one.
Penrose, rich from the mines of the West, and his partners hired the architects Warren & Wetmore, the same firm that designed the Crown Building now home to Aman New York, and asked for the “Grand Dame of the Rockies”: Mediterranean style, pink stucco, European salons; the grounds were laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., son of the designer of Central Park. The original 1918 building, Broadmoor Main, still has its ballroom; around it grew Broadmoor West and Broadmoor South, where the Penrose Room sits at the top of the ninth floor. In all, 784 rooms around a man-made, creek-fed lake.
The day organises itself here. Breakfast is at the Lake Terrace Dining Room, over the lake; on Sundays there is brunch with a pianist and ice sculptures, $110 a head. Then golf, 3 courses including Donald Ross’s East Course, host to 9 USGA championships and reserved for guests and members; the pools, one indoor and one outdoor heated all year; the spa, with a Himalayan salt sauna and an oxygen room for anyone feeling the altitude. For the mountain, go up to Cloud Camp, 900 metres above the resort.
Guests reward it: 4.6 out of 5 on Tripadvisor from 2,407 reviews, 4.7 on Google from nearly 10 thousand, 9.6 on Expedia. They remember the staff, the deer wandering the grounds, the pools the children loved. The $45 daily resort charge, 10.20% tax, parking at $35 a night and the 20% service charge in the restaurants come on top of the room rate.
The Broadmoor has nearly 10 thousand Google reviews. We read the 120 most recent with text, from 12 April to 27 September 2026, alongside 32 YouTube videos searched (26 relevant), 55 Instagram posts, 20 TikToks, 36 articles from 30 publications and 45 official pages. The surprise was who writes them: 13 of those 120 come from people who never spent a night there. They had come for dinner, for an Easter concert, for prom photographs, even to deliver flowers.

Ours (exceptional)
We found a Warren & Wetmore palace with its original ballroom and grounds by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., a spa with 43 treatment rooms and Donald Ross’s East Course, host to 9 USGA championships.
Among the hotel’s regulars, 2 say the staff kept what they had told the hotel: a daughter’s birthday, noted at booking, already in the restaurant’s file; the bedding set up just as on a stay in August. 2 come back for the holidays; a parent who wrote in January 2023 stays with the children every Christmas, when the grounds come alive with lights and snow. A review of April 2026, written on a 7th stay, finds the grounds pleasant to walk and the rooms spectacular; one of May 2025 plans a return when the pool is open.

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests tell of the walk round the lake, with the mountains behind and deer on the lawns.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Curtains open on the lake or the mountains, and the view is what guests remember, from a balcony where the room has one. They also write of comfortable beds and spotless rooms, turned down each evening.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Ahead of the golf and the spa, guests tell of the restaurants, the Sunday brunch by the lake first among them, and of kind staff.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 12 February 2025 to 30 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Colorado Springs: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 1 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

From the resort’s Google listing: an anniversary at the ranch, deer on the lawn, pools for the little ones and the extras.
An anniversary split between the resort and the Ranch at Emerald Valley: everyone knew the occasion, and the food, room and scenery lived up to the price.
The highlight for an animal lover: deer roaming the resort. It is so big there is no time to see it all.
Pools perfect for young children, clean and well kept: the kids had the time of their lives.
At around $1,200 a night: nobody to greet a late arrival, a sofa bed unfit for the child, later replaced, and a suite looking onto the car park.
The room did not seem properly cleaned and, above all, the fees all day long weigh on the wallet: check every charge before booking.
