Amangiri, 34 suites and 10 tented pavilions on 900 acres of desert at Canyon Point, Utah, a 25-minute drive from Page airport in Arizona
Amangiri suits travellers who want guided hikes and a spa in the desert; Google’s lowest seller showed one night taken alone from $3,230 for 2 adults. If evenings in town matter more than staying on the estate, this is a less natural fit.
Co-founder & CEOMarco Di CesareHe spent weeks comparing hotels and kept finding that the detail deciding the trip was missing from the hotel website. 10 years in marketing technology, 2 of them building with AI.About MarcoHow we write the guideLinkedIn
I would ask for a Mesa Suite for the evening light: its 93 m² include a living area, while the private courtyard and terrace face the mesas at sunset. There is an outdoor fireplace on the terrace.
The less expensive nights
In the reading of 13 October 2026, the nights of 1–3 December showed $3,230–$3,272 for one night taken alone; 24 October showed $7,000. Booking 7 nights from 16 November together cost $6,034 nightly from both Google’s lowest seller and the hotel’s own listing.
Allow for the extras
Full board excludes alcoholic drinks, which remain an extra. For priced items on the children’s menu, allow for its stated 18% service charge and 8.35% government tax on those items when working out the final bill.
Tea at Camp Sarika
At Camp Sarika, one of the estate’s 2 restaurants, leave time for afternoon tea; the kitchen also makes vegetarian and vegan dishes, and its seasonal dinner menu changes daily.
What Amangiri is
Amangiri stands alone on 900 acres at Canyon Point, in southern Utah, a few miles from the Arizona line and Lake Powell. It opened in 2009, according to Forbes and to its developer, Canyon Equity. Aman’s site names Marwan Al-Sayed as the resort’s original architect; Wikipedia adds Rick Joy and Wendell Burnett. A central pavilion holds the living room, library and restaurant, and the pool curves round a rock that Aman dates to 165 million years.
People come for the landscape and for what the rate already covers: 3 meals a day for 2, a guided hike and a wellness class each day, soft drinks in the suite and the car from Page airport. The smallest suites measure 93 m²; the spa has a sauna, steam room, cold plunge and flotation pool; the MICHELIN Guide gives the resort 3 Keys. Camp Sarika, a 5-minute drive away, adds 10 tented pavilions, each with a heated pool, and a second restaurant.
On Aman’s booking calendar, read on 8 October 2026, a night for 2 ran from $4,012 to $10,496 with taxes; alcohol, treatments and excursions come on top. Las Vegas and Phoenix are about 4.5 hours away by road and there is only desert around: anyone who wants a town within reach, or a different restaurant each evening, will be happier elsewhere.

Those who come back
Among Amangiri’s regulars, a guest writing in January 2026 recalls via ferrata and a spa massage on a May visit, then wood-burning fireplaces during a December stay. A guest writing in April 2025 recommends the free daily hikes. Another, writing in May 2019, says the food had improved on a second visit. A returning guest writing in March 2021 chose Camp Sarika this time and received s’mores kits in the room each night.

What makes it rare
A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.
What do Amangiri’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

The scores come from 320 Google reviews with text, left from 12 August 2013 to 22 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the American West: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in the American West:
Price: for two on the night of 3 December 2026, from $3,230 (seen on Google Hotels on 13 October 2026).
What a night costs, season by season
For one night taken alone, Google’s lowest seller showed $3,230–$5,844 between 29 November 2026 and 22 March 2027, against $4,895–$6,160 from 23 March to 31 May. I would check the full stay before choosing the dates: on 8 October 2026, the hotel’s own calendar asked $4,012 for 3 December, while Google showed $3,553 for one night taken alone on the same date.

The calendar stops at 7 September 2027, with some nights unpriced; 21 October 2026 stands apart at $9,295. Booked as 7 nights from 16 November 2026, the lowest seller Google listed that day asked $6,034 a night; the resort’s own listing, $6,034.
What to expect
A pool round a rock, a spa with its own water pavilion, 2 restaurants for guests only, a tented camp and iron ladders up the sandstone.
The main pool curves round a sandstone outcrop below the central pavilion, with daybeds on platforms at the water’s edge. Guests describe it as heated; beside it the open-air Fireside Pavilion hosts private dinners under the mesa.
5 treatment rooms, 2 outdoor treatment terraces, a Water Pavilion with sauna, steam room, cold plunge and heated step pool, and a flotation pavilion with a heated saltwater pool. Open 9am to 9pm; the gym never closes.
The resort’s restaurant cooks American Southwest dishes round an open kitchen and a wood-fired oven, with a 4-course tasting menu named Spirit of the Journey. Camp Sarika’s changes its menu daily and works a rotisserie and a fire pit.
10 tented pavilions of 175 or 262 m², a short walk or a 5-minute drive from the resort, each with a heated private pool, a fire pit and an outdoor shower. The camp has a restaurant and pool of its own.
Guided routes climb the property’s sandstone mesas on cables and rungs; one ends at the Cave Peak Stairway, a ladder bridge of 120 steps, 61 metres long. Climbers must be 10 or older, and a gentler course takes children from 6.

Google
Setting, service and table
In September 2026 a couple rated the location among the most spectacular they had seen and gave 2 stars: service they found inconsistent for a resort of 34 suites, a bitter ceviche, tough octopus and a bed too soft to sleep well on.
In August 2026 a French family stayed in Camp Sarika’s tents with 3 children, who were made welcome. They praise staff who think of everything, down to iced water and cooling towels by the pool, and call it the one good table of a road trip in the West.
In July 2026 a guest arrived with a dog: staff brought it water at check-in and a bed, water and chicken with rice at dinner. The same guest found the kitchen and room service shut at 10pm, and Camp Sarika’s food the weaker of the 2.
In January 2026 a guest back after 8 years described a December stay too cold for outdoor activities but made snug by wood fires burning everywhere; the spa, the review says, is superb whatever the temperature.
A family of 4 spent Christmas 2025 at Camp Sarika and found the cooking varied and often very good, with lobster thermidor at breakfast. They mention a lumpy mattress and some wrong orders, and thank the staff for their care of an autistic 10-year-old.
In September 2025 a guest paying more than $4,500 a night told of luggage missing for hours and of a table at Camp Sarika promised, then cancelled 2 hours ahead for a private event. Dinner at the resort was great, the review says, breakfast and lunch poor.
The questions people ask before booking Amangiri, answered from sources read on 8 October 2026.
What kind of hotel is Amangiri?
An Aman resort of 34 suites at Canyon Point, in southern Utah, with a camp of 10 tented pavilions, Camp Sarika, a villa of 6 bedrooms and a house of 4 on the same estate, according to the official site. The estate covers 900 acres on some official pages and 920 on others; Google’s listing says 600.
It opened in 2009, according to Forbes and its developer, Canyon Equity; the official pages we read give no opening year. The MICHELIN Guide awards it 3 Keys and counts 45 rooms, one more than the suites and pavilions together.
Which suites and pavilions are there, and how big are they?
7 suite types at the resort, on the official suites page: the Desert, Mesa and Orchard Suites at 93 m², the Mesa Pool Suite at 146 m² and the Desert Pool Suite at 150 m², each with a private pool of 5 by 4 metres, the Girijaala Suite at 347 m² and the Amangiri Suite at 348 m², with lap pools of 14 and 18 metres. All have a king-size bed, a soaking tub, twin rain showers and underfloor heating.
Camp Sarika has 4 one-bedroom pavilions and 1 in a canyon of its own, at 175 m², and 4 two-bedroom pavilions and 1 Grand View, at 262 m², by the count in its events brochure. The Six-Bedroom Ridge Villa measures 1,115 m²; the Four-Bedroom Mesa Home has no published size. Sister pages also name a One-Bedroom Mesa Pavilion, whose own address now leads back to the home page.
Where is Amangiri, and what is nearby?
At 1 Kayenta Road, Canyon Point, Utah 84741, close to the Arizona border, according to the official page. Tripadvisor files it under Big Water, the nearest town, 12 km away, and the MICHELIN Guide under Lake Powell.
By road, calculated on OpenStreetMap on 8 October 2026: Wahweap Marina on Lake Powell 16 km, Horseshoe Bend 28 km, the town of Page 22 km, Zion 170 km, Bryce Canyon 227 km and the Grand Canyon’s North Rim 218 km. Around it there is only desert: guests eat at the hotel.
How do you get to Amangiri, and how long does it take?
Most guests fly to Page, Arizona (PGA), and take the hotel’s car, which is included in the rate: a 25-minute drive, says the «Getting here» page; the home page says 20, and OpenStreetMap measures 24 km. The airport lists daily flights to Phoenix with Contour Airlines.
The closest international airports are Las Vegas and Phoenix, each about 4.5 hours away by road in the hotel’s reckoning, 438 and 474 km on OpenStreetMap; St George and Flagstaff are about 2.5 hours away. Private aircraft land at Page, and the hotel can arrange a helicopter from the larger airports.
Is there parking?
Yes, and it is valet only, according to the hotel’s accessibility page. Google and Tripadvisor list the parking as free; no official page we read prints a charge. Google also lists electric-car charging.
Drivers leave US Highway 89 at an unmarked turning and stop at a gate that asks for a reservation number, as a guest described in September 2023. Pavilion and villa guests get an electric golf cart for the estate.
Is there a beach, or access to the sea?
The sea is a long way off: Amangiri is in the high desert. The water nearby is Lake Powell, in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area: Lone Rock Beach, a primitive public beach with an entrance fee, is 9 km from the resort by road, and Wahweap Marina 16 km.
The hotel runs its own boats on the lake, a 28-foot and a 37-foot Axopar, from Wahweap Marina, according to its experience guide; these outings are charged, or chosen as one of the 2 activities of the Desert Adventure offer. The resort has no beach of its own.
What is the pool like?
The main pool is outdoors, in the middle of the resort, built round a sandstone outcrop: the official site calls it mesa-embracing and gives no measurements. The accessibility page notes a ramp to the pool terrace and a pool lift; Google’s listing adds a hot tub, which the spa menu places in the spa’s Water Pavilion.
Beyond it: a second pool at Camp Sarika, a heated pool at each of the 10 pavilions, private pools of 5 by 4 metres at the Mesa Pool and Desert Pool Suites, lap pools of 14 and 18 metres at the Girijaala and Amangiri Suites, 15 metres at the Mesa Home and 36 at the Ridge Villa.
Is the pool heated, and is it open all year?
Guests say the main pool is heated: one in December 2022 writes of «the heated pool» after a day’s hiking, another in July 2022 of a perfect temperature, both on Google. The official pages we read give neither a temperature nor opening hours for it.
What the site does state: the pavilions’ private pools are heated, the spa’s step pool is heated, and the flotation pool is heated salt water, according to the pavilions page and the wellness page.
Where do you eat, and until when?
In 2 restaurants, both for resident guests only, according to the dining page. The resort’s restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner indoors or on the pool terrace, from an open kitchen with a wood-fired oven; its 4-course Spirit of the Journey menu pays tribute to the region’s tribes. Camp Sarika Restaurant changes its menu daily, with rotisserie and fire-pit dishes, snacks and afternoon tea.
The site prints no opening hours. A guest in July 2026 found the kitchen and room service closed at 10pm; another, in September 2025, was told resort guests need a reservation for the camp’s restaurant. Extras on the menus carry 18% service and 8.35% tax: 30 grams of Ossetra caviar is priced at $230 on the dinner menu.
What does the rate include?
Every stay, in a suite, a pavilion or the villa, includes breakfast, lunch and dinner for 2 guests per room, soft drinks and refreshments in the room, a scheduled group wellness class and guided group hikes each day, the self-guided trails, itinerary planning and the return transfer from Page airport, according to the accommodation page.
Alcohol is charged separately, with taxes and 18% service, as the festive programme states. Spa treatments, private guides and excursions off the estate are extra, and the offers’ terms mention a charge for a third person. One travel site describes the rates as room only: the official pages say full board.
What is the spa like?
It covers 25,000 square feet, 2,322 m², according to the wellness page: 5 treatment rooms, one of them double, 2 outdoor treatment terraces, a Pilates and yoga studio, a gym, a finishing salon, and a Water Pavilion with sauna, steam room, cold plunge and heated step pool.
The flotation pavilion holds a heated saltwater pool for floating alone with music and light, the spa menu explains. The spa and gym are in the resort’s Mesa Wing; the facilities are shared by men and women and call for a swimsuit.
Is the spa included, and can non-residents use it?
The list of what every stay includes names a daily group wellness class; the pavilions page adds full access to the resort’s facilities, the spa among them, and the camp’s adventure itineraries spell out use of the gym and the Water Pavilion. No page we read prints a fee for the pools, sauna or steam room; treatments and private sessions are charged.
No official page offers a day pass, and the dining page says the restaurants are open to guests only. In practice non-residents do not get in: 2 travellers say so, in August 2022 and June 2025. The minimum age for the facilities and for treatments is 18.
What are the spa’s hours, and do you need to book?
The spa opens daily from 9am to 9pm, with the last treatment at 8pm, and the fitness centre is open 24 hours, according to the spa menu. It recommends booking ahead and arriving 15 minutes early to use the Water Pavilion, and asks for 12 hours’ notice to cancel without charge.
A guest in June 2022 advises reserving treatments well before arrival: the hotel writes to guests months ahead, and the slots fill.
Which treatments are there, and what do they cost?
The menu opens with Aman’s 3 signature paths, Grounding, Purifying and Nourishing: a massage or a facial of 60 or 90 minutes, a body polish and wrap of 90, or all 3 in a journey of 180. Amangiri’s own treatments include the Utah Salt & Clay wrap, 75 minutes, cranial sacral therapy in a warm salt pool, 75 minutes, and Aqua Shiatsu, 60.
The menu prints durations and no prices, and says all prices are subject to local taxes and an 18% service charge. Yoga on the Rocks, 120 minutes, climbs to a mesa top; Tower Butte Yoga adds a helicopter flight to a butte 1,000 feet, about 300 metres, above Lake Powell.
Is Amangiri suitable for children?
Yes: the family page suggests the Two-Bedroom Tented Pavilions and the Four-Bedroom Mesa Home for families, and the restaurant has a children’s menu. A blog that calls the resort adults-only is mistaken.
Age limits apply to activities: 10 for the via ferrata routes and 6 for the Canyon Crossing course, 10 for the Antelope Canyon kayak tour, 12 for jet skis, according to the experience guide; the spa is for adults. Google and Tripadvisor list babysitting. The MICHELIN Guide says rooms cannot take cots or extra beds, while the pavilions’ pages promise additional beds as needed.
What else is there, and are dogs allowed?
Beyond the rooms: the main pool, the spa and gym, a living room and a library, the Desert Lounge and Fireside Pavilion for private dinners, more than 12 miles (19 km) of marked trails, via ferrata routes and a helipad, according to the experiences page and the air tours page. Suites have Wi-Fi.
Dogs: Google marks pets as allowed, and guests in November 2025 and July 2026 stayed with theirs, given dog beds by the hotel. The official pages we read mention only service animals, on the accessibility page, and print no pet fee. No dress code is published either.
What offers are there?
6 on the offers page read on 8 October 2026. Advance Reservation gives its own nightly rate to bookings made more than 21 days ahead, prepaid and non-refundable, until 20 March 2027. 3 need a 3-night stay booked 30 days ahead, until 31 December 2027: Desert Adventure, with 2 activities per suite, Amangiri Romance, with massages, a sunset outing and a private dinner, and Wellness Escape, with 3 treatments a person.
Extend Your Stay gives a fourth night free in Camp Sarika’s pavilions until 23 December 2027, with blackout dates; Journey Across the Americas, a route through Aman’s hotels in the Americas, ends on 31 October 2026. Several ask for a 50% deposit. The camp also sells 3 itineraries of 3, 4 and 5 nights.
Can you marry or hold an event at Amangiri?
Yes. A buyout of the resort hosts up to 110 guests and Camp Sarika up to 30, according to the celebrations page; vows can be said on top of a mesa, with a helicopter down to the party. The resort’s dining room seats 76 for a private dinner, the Fireside Pavilion takes 40, and the Chinle Site, out in the canyons, 35 seated.
The only price published is for the camp: its events brochure estimates $450,000 for 30 guests taking all 10 pavilions for 3 nights, with full board, transfers, one spa treatment and one activity each, and private dinners; 3 nights is the minimum. The Raven’s Nest seats 20 for dinner or holds 30 for a standing reception, according to the official events page, read on 15 October 2026; the events brochure still online dates from 2024.
Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?
Yes. The 2026 festive programme sets out 31 December 2026: a Champagne tasting with caviar at the resort restaurant from 4.30pm to 6pm, the New Year’s Eve dinner at both restaurants from 6pm with live music, then s’mores at the Desert Lounge from 9pm, a Champagne toast and fireworks at 10pm.
On 1 January 2027 a brunch runs from 11am to 3pm. The programme prints no menu prices and says alcoholic drinks are charged separately; on the official calendar the night of 31 December for 2 was priced at $5,490, taxes included.
Is there golf?
No. No official page mentions golf, although Google and Tripadvisor list it among the amenities. What the hotel sells outdoors is hiking, via ferrata, horse riding, boats on Lake Powell, slot canyons, hot-air balloon and helicopter flights, according to the experience guide.
When is Amangiri open, and does it ever close?
The official site calls Camp Sarika a year-round camp and announces no closure. On the official booking calendar, read on 8 October 2026, every night from 9 January to 1 February 2027 was without a rate, and Google Hotels showed none from 9 to 31 January either; the nights before and after were on sale.
The calendars give no reason. In the same reading 16, 17 and 23 October 2026 had no rate either. Seasons matter here: the hotel’s experience guide goes to the Grand Canyon’s North Rim in summer, when it is open, and its parks page recommends Bryce Canyon as a respite from the high-season heat.
How much does a night cost?
On Aman’s own booking calendar, read on 8 October 2026, a night for 2 with full board, all taxes and fees included, cost $5,590 on 18 October 2026, $4,118 on 18 November, $6,176 on 26 November, Thanksgiving, $4,012 on 3 December, $5,279 on 24 December, $5,490 on 31 December and $4,012 on 7 January 2027.
Google Hotels, read the same day, shows those nights before tax: $4,950, $3,646, $5,470, $3,553, $4,675 and $3,553, with no price for New Year’s Eve. The cheapest nights on the official calendar, at $4,012, fall in early December and early January; the dearest, $10,496, on 12 and 21 October. Neither calendar names the suite; on Google’s card for 9 October the lowest offer was the Desert Suite.
What do the reviews say?
Google’s 539 ratings average 4.5/5, 84% of them 5 stars; Tripadvisor’s 788 average 4.5/5, second of 3 hotels in Big Water, with location and rooms at 4.8, service at 4.5 and value at 3.9; Trip.com shows 4.6/5 from 49, according to Google Hotels. All were read on 8 October 2026.
Guests praise the setting, the pool, the architecture and staff who remember names and orders. The rate does not include alcohol, treatments or excursions, and 4 reviews between October 2024 and March 2026 describe long waits at table and by the pool.
Which taxes and charges are added?
It depends where the price is read. Aman’s booking calendar states that its rates «include all applicable taxes and fees». Google Hotels shows less: for 9 October 2026 its calendar gave $5,445, while the official link on the same card carried a total of $6,148.50, $1,198.50 of it marked as tax, and Aman’s calendar $6,149.
On 75 of the 78 nights read in both, the official figure was 12.9% above Google’s. The offers’ terms say the nightly rate is subject to taxes and service charge, without percentages. In the restaurants extras carry 18% service and 8.35% tax, and at the spa 18% service plus local taxes, according to the menus.
What is Camp Sarika, and how does it differ from the resort?
Camp Sarika is part of Amangiri, on the same estate, a short walk or a 5-minute drive from the main building: 10 tented pavilions with canvas roofs, heating and air conditioning, and the camp’s own restaurant, lounge and pool. It has no website of its own: its pages sit under Amangiri’s on aman.com.
Camp guests may use everything at the resort, the Aman Spa included, and resort guests may eat at the camp, with a reservation. The room is what differs: concrete and stone at the resort, from 93 m², or a tent of 175 or 262 m² with its own pool at the camp, which the site recommends to families and groups.
