Like a regular

The Palm Courtyard at dusk: a stone fountain in the middle, white iron armchairs with blue cushions, palms and a string of lights.
  1. The club room to ask for

I would ask for a Flagler Club Guest Room with Ocean View: 300 square feet facing the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Courtyard, with breakfast, light lunch and sunset hors d’oeuvres. A guest writing in May 2024 chose the Flagler Club once again.

  2. The weeks that cost less

In the calendar read on 13 October 2026 the lowest week is 28 July–3 August 2027: nights for 2 adults from $695 to $725, before the 12.5% room tax. The dearest week, 27 December 2026–2 January 2027, ran from $1,858 to $2,584.

  3. On top of the rate

The room rate is nightly and carries 12.5% tax; meals and drinks carry a 20% service charge and 6.5% tax. Overnight valet parking is complimentary, and a one-night deposit, excluding tax, is due when you book.

  4. The Seafood Bar’s fish tank

Look down at the Seafood Bar: 4 guests who wrote between July 2025 and July 2026 mention fish swimming under the bar top, the glass or the plate.

What The Breakers is

The Breakers was founded in 1896 by Henry Morrison Flagler and still belongs to his heirs, with no chain behind it. The present building, modelled on the Villa Medici in Rome, opened on 29 December 1926 after 2 fires, and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973. It stands on 140 acres between South County Road and the Atlantic: 534 rooms, 72 of them suites, with the 21-room Flagler Club on the top 2 floors.

People come for everything at once. The Beach Club has 4 pools and the beach, the Ocean Course starts beside the main drive, there are 16 courts for tennis, pickleball and padel, a spa of 1,858 m² and a gym above the sea that costs nothing extra. Breakfast is served under the frescoes of The Circle, the evening begins at HMF, and a house car takes you to the hotel’s 2 restaurants in town. Children have their own centre and a pool with a sloping edge.

3 things are worth a look before booking: the room, the bill and the works. The cheapest rooms measure 28 m² and no category has more than a step-out Juliet balcony. Google Hotels showed $839 to $2,594 a night before tax between October 2026 and January 2027, and meals, bungalows, golf and court time are charged on top. Until late November 2026 the Golf & Racquet Clubhouse and Flagler Steakhouse are closed for works, and scaffolding may stand on the South Tower.

In the Lumina Guide

Lumina Guide 2027

The Breakers is a 1926 Italian Renaissance-style palace on the ocean in Palm Beach: 534 rooms, about 800 metres of private beach, 4 pools and golf, all in the one resort.

How we choose the hotels

Those who come back

Among the hotel’s regulars, a guest writing in July 2026 has stayed at least annually for over 22 years and names lunch at the Seafood Bar as a favourite. 3 return for an anniversary; one, writing in May 2024, found that the recent renovations make the standard room feel bigger, and counts the included breakfast every morning a huge perk. Another, writing in June 2024, has stayed many times in 20 years and singles out the spa’s massages and facials and the gym’s classes.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 26 March 2025 to 8 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Palm Beach and along its coast: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

In October 2026 a couple on a repeat visit wrote on their last morning that the concierge had arranged an early check-in, a room upgrade and a late check-out by text message, which left them time for the spa. Free ice cream every day

In September 2026 a mother who came for a work meeting with her husband and 3 children had feared the dress code. She found a family area by the pools with crafts, a PlayStation lounge, a giant chess set and free ice cream daily, and skipped the restaurants so as not to dress a toddler for dinner. Seaweed fouled the beach on the first day; a storm cleared it.

The works by the pools

A guest staying from 14 to 19 September 2026 gave 2 stars: construction equipment could be heard throughout the stay at the pools and outdoors, and the cold tap in the room ran warm. The mattress and the valet

In August 2026 a guest praised the architecture, the restaurants and a well-organised beach, then stopped at 3 stars: the mattress dipped in the middle, and the car was slow to come back from the valet every time. At more than $1,000 a night, the review says, comfort should match the looks.

In June 2026 guests with more than 10 visits in 9 years described their favourite day: 2 loungers and an umbrella on the beach, lunch fetched from the pool restaurant, and attendants who let them stay on the sand after closing time. Florida has better beaches, they concede, and add that the rocks give this one its character.

The dress code

In March 2026 a guest paying more than $900 a night was refused entry to the lounge in dress shorts, a button-down shirt and flip-flops, while others went in wearing much the same. After the general manager telephoned to apologise the guest raised the rating to 5 stars, and still calls the dress code antiquated.

Questions before you book

What travellers ask before choosing The Breakers, answered from the sources read on 8 October 2026.

What kind of hotel is The Breakers Palm Beach?

A large oceanfront resort on the island of Palm Beach, Florida: 534 rooms, 72 of them suites, on 140 acres with a private beach, 2 golf courses and its own shops, according to the official fact sheet. Henry Morrison Flagler founded it in 1896; his heirs still own it through Flagler System, and it belongs to no chain.

The present building is the third. The first 2 burned in 1903 and 1925, and the Italian Renaissance palace that stands today opened on 29 December 1926, on the hotel’s own timeline; it has been open all year since 1971 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

It holds 2 MICHELIN Keys, according to the MICHELIN Guide, read on 15 October 2026; the hotel’s awards page lists One Key for 2024 and 2025. The same page gives AAA Four Diamonds and Forbes Four Stars for 2026, and AAA Five Diamonds for 2024; Google files it as a 4-star hotel.

What are the rooms and suites like, and how big are they?

There are 20 categories on the accommodation pages: 5 guest rooms of 300 to 460 square feet (28 to 43 m²), 11 suites of 500 to 1,700 square feet (46 to 158 m²) and 4 Flagler Club rooms and suites of 300 to 600 square feet. The hotel publishes square feet only; the square metres are our conversion.

Views are sold by name: resort, partial ocean, ocean and oceanfront. None of the pages lists a full balcony or terrace; the oceanfront rooms and most suites have Juliet balconies behind sliding glass doors. Every room has a minibar, a safe, bathrobes and free Wi-Fi, and each suite a personal concierge.

The Flagler Club is a hotel within the hotel: 21 rooms on the sixth and seventh floors with their own lift, a lounge and a roof terrace, where breakfast, a light lunch, evening canapés and a cocktail hour are part of the rate.

Where is it, and what is around it?

At One South County Road, on the ocean side of the island of Palm Beach, set back from the road behind its golf course. Royal Poinciana Way, the island’s old main street, is 1,085 m from the door, about 14 minutes on foot, and Worth Avenue 2 km, measured on OpenStreetMap’s roads.

Google’s description puts the hotel «a 5-minute walk from the Flagler Museum». On the same map the walk is 1,128 m and takes about 15 minutes. West Palm Beach, with the Norton Museum of Art and the railway station, is across the bridge, 3.8 km and 7 minutes by car. The hotel’s own list of things nearby adds the Kravis Center and the Palm Beach Zoo.

How do you get there from the airports?

Palm Beach International Airport is the close one: 9 km and about 14 minutes by car on OpenStreetMap’s roads, against the 6 miles and 15 minutes of the hotel’s location page. Fort Lauderdale is 81.6 km, about 1 hour 9 minutes, and Miami 122.2 km, about 1 hour 45 minutes, before traffic.
