Chatham Bars Inn
At Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod, grey-shingled cottages lead down to a private beach on the bay. Boats sit offshore, with chairs on the lawn facing the water.
A week here, month by monthI would come in summer, when the beach and boating can fill a day without much planning. Choose the building carefully if you want dinner close to your room: the historic inn and cottages spread across the grounds.

For two, I would stay in the Main Inn when I want dinner downstairs and an easy return to the room. A harbour-facing balcony earns its keep when you have time to sit there.
- I’d ask for
- An Ocean View Room in the Main Inn, with its deck or balcony confirmed.
- Worth knowing
- A room booking does not make the summer boating programme available year-round.

Like a regular

Choose the building first
Main Inn Ocean View Rooms come with 1 or 2 queen beds; I’d have my preferred arrangement written on the booking.
Summer or a lower room price
The calendar would draw me towards winter if the room price mattered more than time outdoors. I would not move the trip for the lowest figure alone if summer were what I wanted.
What the room rate covers
There is no resort fee. Valet parking, bicycles and several beach and pool services come with the room; match seasonal activities to the dates of your trip.
What Chatham Bars Inn is
Chatham Bars Inn began in 1914 as a hunting lodge. Its 217 rooms now occupy the historic Main Inn and 30 cottage-style buildings, with 40 rooms in the main house. Choosing the building changes the stay, particularly with children or when you want to change before dinner.
The private beach and main pool face the sea, while the boating programme takes the stay beyond the lawn. I’d leave part of the day open and decide after breakfast whether to stay near the room or head out on a boat.
Before booking, I’d decide how much time I want indoors. For a holiday spent mostly outside, I’d keep more budget for the days; if I planned to return often, the sitting room and bathroom would matter more.

Distinctions
The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them
What do Chatham Bars Inn’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Location
Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Ocean views, the veranda and walks into town stay among guests’ memories.
Room
One regular loves the suites tried over the years; another finds a much smaller room than the photographs suggested.
Staff and service
6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Beach service and the boat crews leave good memories; waiting at the tables weighs more heavily.
Breakfast
One guest remembers breakfast and the veranda view; another describes a mushy lobster Benedict.
Price
Guests mention waiting at the bar and paying restaurant prices they felt the food did not justify.

185 guests said so on Google, from 21 May 2025 to 27 October 2026. Stored Google reviews dated from 4 November 2024; collections may stop at 300 or 2,000 reviews. The latest 500 with text, or every available text when fewer, are read the same way. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay on Cape Cod: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 4 November 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against on Cape Cod:
- Wequassett Resort and Golf Club
Price: for 2, the night of 22 December 2026, from $248 on Google Hotels on 3 November 2026.
Dates change the stay
Weigh the dates against what you want to do. The lowest room price does not establish the same holiday in another season.
| Period | Dollars a night |
|---|---|
| January 2027 | 283–377 |
| March 2027 | 315–380 |
| June 2027 | 670–1,852 |
For 2 adults, each night searched on its own; room, meals, taxes and cancellation unverified. Prices from Google Hotels, 3 November 2026. Ranges cover the stored calendar nights: 19 in January, 17 in March and 28 in June 2027; other nights remain unknown.

Good to know before you book
Have the building named on your confirmation; it is more useful than a general request to be near the restaurants.
The boat shuttle to North Beach Island runs seasonally. Check that its operating programme covers your dates before fixing the trip.
One dog, at least 1 year old and up to 75 lb, can stay in a designated room for $200 a night. Arrange that room directly in advance.
