  1. The room to ask for

I would ask for a Stateroom, in the oldest part of the castle: high ceilings, original fireplaces and views of Lough Corrib or the River Cong. A guest who wrote in June 2026, after several stays, always prefers the old part.

  2. The weeks that cost less

From 17 to 21 January 2027, single nights for 2 adults cost €548 to €567 on Google, read 15 October 2026. The dearest night the calendar shows is 25 November 2026, at €3,936.

  3. On top of the rate

The hotel’s chauffeur charges €225 each way from Knock airport, €355 from Shannon and €690 from Dublin, for up to 2 passengers. A dog costs €75 a night, with at most 2 in a room.

What Ashford is

The oldest wing dates from the 13th century. Under Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness and then Lord and Lady Ardilaun the estate took the shape guests walk today, and in 1905 the family built the George V Dining Room for a visit by the Prince of Wales. John Ford filmed The Quiet Man in the grounds and in Cong in 1951. Red Carnation Hotels bought the castle in 2013 and restored it over 5 years.

There are 11 kinds of room. The Corrib Room is the smallest, a bedroom of 4.5 by 3.7 metres; the Staterooms sit in the oldest part with 4.6-metre ceilings and fireplaces; the split-level Reagan Presidential Suite has 2 bathrooms and can be joined to the Kennedy Suite and a Corrib Lake View Room to make a private wing of 3 bedrooms. The Boathouse, the Guinness family’s old boathouse on the shore, is a suite for 2 with its own terrace and a butler on call.

Much of the estate comes with the room: the 9-hole golf course, the tennis courts, Pashley bicycles, the 32-seat cinema, the morning walks and Éalú, the leisure centre with a 15-metre pool by The Lodge. The hawk walk, the cruises, fishing, archery and clay shooting cost extra and are booked ahead.

On the bill: the hotel’s FAQ says rates include tax, and a discretionary €20 service charge per night is added. On Google Hotels, read on 15 October 2026, the cheapest night for 2 was €522, on 10 February 2027, a lone night; from January to April 2027 consecutive nights started at €545, and the nights priced from May to August 2027 cost between €1,011 and €1,494.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 14 April 2024 to 15 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay among Ireland’s castle and country-estate hotels: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 15 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well.
