It suits a Rome stay with late breakfasts, from €1,879 for 2 adults for one night, the lowest seller price on Google Hotels. Families needing unrestricted children’s swimming hours may prefer another base.

Our verdict

Il Caffè: terracotta-coloured banquettes and rattan chairs, laid tables, potted palms and plants, a marble floor and glass pendant lamps down the room

Only the square lies between the Bulgari’s front door and the Mausoleum of Augustus. Cross it, and ancient Rome turns back into a city you simply walk through. Back inside, the 1930s building lets you choose where to vanish: down into the mosaic water of the spa, or up into the garden on the roof. The rest is up to your room, facing the square or a quieter side street.

Up on the roof, La Terrazza fits 76 seats under 11 pergolas, in a garden of glazed pots, and Rome spreads out below like a map: the Mausoleum, St Peter’s, Villa Medici, the Janiculum. It opens from 6pm to midnight and tables are booked online, though the hotel’s events page lists it as closed in winter. Further down, the spa covers 1,500 m² around a 20-metre pool, its mosaics inspired by the Baths of Caracalla and 8 marble columns rising from the water. It is for over-16s; visitors get in only with a treatment.

Dinner goes up to the fifth floor, to Il Ristorante: a terrace over the Mausoleum, a tasting menu from €180, and a listing in the MICHELIN Guide without a star. For the rest of the day there are the Bvlgari Bar, Il Caffè on the square and, in summer, the pizza bar on the terrace. Guests leave delighted with the service, the spa and the location. The Bvlgari Cocktail is €25, and the tasting menu with wines €280.

On 28 September 2026 we gathered the 905 reviews Google shows, 549 of them with text, mapped 12 walks from the portico and chose 6 videos from 5 channels. Guests who slept here write about the rooms, the spa and the service. The bar, Il Caffè and the terrace take non-residents too and are the places most written about: the table on the terrace and the one at Il Ristorante are best booked before you travel.

Two Lumi

Lumina Guide 2027

Exceptional: two of our three readings say so.

Bulgari Hotel Roma has the Mausoleum of Augustus across from its front door and, down in the spa, 8 marble columns standing in the water.

How Lumi are awarded

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

Between the Tiber and Via del Corso, right in the historic centre: Piazza di Spagna and Piazza del Popolo are 8 minutes’ walk away (608 metres), the Pantheon 13 (997 metres).

  2. Character

A 1930s Rationalist palazzo looking straight at the Mausoleum of Augustus, with coloured marble and mosaics right into the rooms. The MICHELIN Guide gives it 3 Keys.

  3. Rooms

From 33 m² in the Superior rooms up to 300 m² in the Bvlgari Suite, on the third floor with 10 windows onto the Mausoleum. The bathrooms come in coloured marble, in 4 palettes.

  4. Food and social life

Il Ristorante on the fifth floor, with its terrace and a tasting menu from €180, plus the Bvlgari Bar, Il Caffè and the rooftop. Breakfast is à la carte, at Il Caffè, from 7am.

  5. Wellness

A 1,500 m² spa around the 20-metre mosaic pool, with a sauna, a steam room, 8 treatment rooms and the Onyx Spa Suite. Over-16s only.

  6. The stay as a whole

The hotel to book in Rome for a luxury stay in the centre, split between the pool and the rooftop; less suited to a budget under €1,900 a night.

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

  • A spa worth the trip

Here: a 1,500 m² spa around the 20-metre mosaic pool, with a sauna, a steam room, 8 treatment rooms and the Onyx Spa Suite.

28 of the 30 guests who write about the spa are pleased. 28 hotels of 335 hold it.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Bulgari Hotel Roma’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. It is the roof terrace they remember, and the aperitivo up there with Rome all round: the Mausoleum of Augustus below and St Peter’s in the distance.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. From the marble bathroom to the bedside controls, the details impress: guests write about spacious rooms, the bathtub and the Junior Suites.

  3. Staff and service

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Many guests thank someone by name: the butlers, the bartenders at the Bvlgari Bar, the welcome at the door and the team on the terrace.

  4. Breakfast

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. At Il Caffè, under the portico, breakfast is à la carte from 7am: guests write about the cornetti and the cappuccino, and non-residents drop in for a coffee too.

  5. Price

5 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. Guests write about the bill at Il Caffè, for a cappuccino and a cornetto; at the bar the Bvlgari Cocktail is €25, and at Il Ristorante the tasting menu starts at €180.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 31 July 2023 to 27 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Rome: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 1 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

What to expect

Facing the Mausoleum, a 1930s Rationalist palazzo: below, a 20-metre mosaic pool; up top, a fifth-floor restaurant.

Good to know before you book

  • La Terrazza follows the season and the sky. The restaurant page has it open every day from 6pm to midnight; the events page says it closes for winter, and the booking system took tables until October 2026. When it rains, it stays shut.

  • The spa belongs to the over-16s; guests’ children swim with an adult from 10am to noon and from 3 to 5pm. Visitors get in only with a treatment, which opens the pool and sauna from an hour before to an hour after, or with a membership: there is no day pass.

  • The hotel sits inside the historic centre’s ZTL, and since June 2025 the square in front has been pedestrianised. The hotel’s website mentions a valet and nothing more: no price, and elsewhere the figures swing from “free” on Booking.com to €50 a day.

  • On breakfast the sources pull in different directions: Google and Expedia list it as free, while the hotel’s B.Relaxed offer counts it among its inclusions, as if other rates went without. The description of the rate you pick at booking settles it.

Pizza on the roof

Friends in August, on the terrace, where a guest pizzaiolo had set up a pizza bar: the view over Rome’s rooftops at sunset is worth the visit on its own, the pizza costs more than average but is worth it, and the alcohol-free cocktails are excellent.

What do guests say, and is it worth it?

Yes, for the location, the spa and the service: that is where the scores soar. It is less suited to a budget under €1,900 a night.
