A week here, month by monthFor a first visit to Rio, I would choose the address opposite Copacabana Beach; the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night for 2 adults was R$3,676. For a spa-led stay, I would wait for the announced 3 November 2026 opening of Dior Spa.

For a room facing the sea, I would ask for the Copacabana Suite: its oversized balconies look across Copacabana Beach, and guests have access to the exclusive 6th-floor pool.

The beach begins across Avenida Atlântica and the wave-patterned promenade, with an area reserved for hotel guests. Opened in August 1923, the white palace has the seafront before it and Rio’s steep hills behind. For a first visit, the Ocean View categories give you the scene you came for; rooms overlooking the city belong to the same hotel.
The Main Building starts with Superior City View Rooms of 26–39 m² and has One Bedroom City View Suites of 47–56 m². Families can take 2-bedroom suites for up to 5, counting a rollaway. On the 6th floor, the Penthouse suites come with furnished verandas and semi-private access to the Black Pool. Taking the full 7-bedroom collection makes pool access private.
Pérgula supplies the colour, with tropical walls and green booths, breakfast in the morning, feijoada on Saturdays and brunch on Sundays. Dinner at MEE draws on Japan, Korea, Thailand, China and India, with à la carte dishes, tasting menus and omakase. It opens from 7pm; smart casual here excludes shorts, flip-flops and slippers.
The Main Building remains open through the works. Belmond’s release of 6 October 2026 sets 3 November 2026 for the rebuilt Pool Wing and Dior Spa. The wing adds 68 rooms and suites, bringing the hotel to 208.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 15 December 2025 to 16 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Rio de Janeiro: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 16 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
