Dinner at La Cigogne
Restaurant de la Cigogne serves without a break from 12pm to 10pm, with a list of more than 240 wines.1
At La Cigogne, on Place Longemalle, the lounge fire is lit on winter evenings beneath murals of the city. Its 49 rooms are all different, a short walk from the lake and the Old Town.
A week here, month by monthI would choose La Cigogne for a few days on foot between the lake and the Old Town, with dinner downstairs: from 4 to 11 January 2027 a night for 2 starts at CHF 358. For a holiday built around a spa and a pool, I would look at a larger hotel.
The hotel websiteDoes it suit you?
5 pairs of hotels, and the guide tells you whether this one suits you.
I would ask for a Suite: 55 m² for up to 3, with a 160 cm bed or 2 singles. For 4 I would book the Family Suite instead, 70 m² with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
From 24 to 30 January 2027 nights run from CHF 362 to CHF 375, each taken on its own. The night of 18 May 2027 reaches CHF 820; in spring I would try a few dates before choosing.
Valet parking costs CHF 49 a day, and a dog CHF 15 a night. The square is pedestrian: on arrival you call at the bollard and the valet takes the car.
Half board starts at CHF 230 per person, with breakfast and a dinner at Restaurant de la Cigogne: a starter, a main and a dessert. I would take it for the first evening.
It suits anyone who wants to see Geneva on foot and come back in the evening to a lounge with the fire lit. I would choose the 55 m² Suite, with a fireplace in the sitting room; the Classic starts at 25 m².12
There is no spa or pool in the building: for the gym there is the Holmes Place club a short distance away. Anyone planning a wellness day will be happier elsewhere.1

What do La Cigogne’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write about the pedestrian square in the very centre, a short walk from the lake and the Old Town; it takes a while to reach by car.
7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests like the charm of the rooms, each one different; more than one finds them dated, with a small bathroom.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests remember the doormen and the front desk; some have come back for years, and some would return for the restaurant alone.
6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests are divided on breakfast: some find it well made, others would like more choice.
Few guests write about the price, and most of them find it high for rooms they would like renewed.
| What | Guests’ score | Guests who mention it | Happy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | 8.5 | 110 | 95% |
| Room | 6.9 | 84 | 69% |
| Staff and service | 7.6 | 186 | 78% |
| Breakfast | 6.1 | 42 | 60% |
| Price | – | 25 | 28% |
264 guests said so on Google, from 12 March 2013 to 6 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Geneva: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 20 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in Geneva:
Price: for 2, the night of 8 January 2027, from 358 CHF on Google Hotels on 20 October 2026.
From 20 October 2026 to 2 April 2027 a night runs from CHF 358 to CHF 589, each taken on its own. From 20 May to 14 September 2027 it rises to CHF 414–556; I would choose winter.
| Period | CHF a night |
|---|---|
| 20 October 2026 to 2 April 2027 | 358–589 |
| 3 April to 11 May 2027 | 371–705 |
| 12 May to 19 May 2027 | 473–820 |
| 20 May to 14 September 2027 | 414–556 |
Each figure is the lowest price for 2 adults of one night taken alone, whatever the room. The calendar runs to 14 September 2027; 18 May 2027, at CHF 820, is the dearest night.

At the Beau-Rivage I would choose the Junior Suite Lake View Panorama: 45 m² facing the Jet d’Eau, with balconies. There are 95 rooms and suites on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, and the same family has run the house since 1865.

At Four Seasons des Bergues Geneva, your day can begin with a swim above the rooftops and finish at IZUMI: on the terrace in summer, in the library in winter.

On Lake Geneva’s quay, the President Wilson pairs dinner at Bayview with an outdoor pool for the warmer months. I would start with a lake-facing room.

Here the park runs down to the lake: the outdoor pool sits among the trees, with Lake Geneva and the Alps ahead. I’d bring even the youngest, since La Petite Réserve takes them from 6 months, and keep an evening for Cantonese dinner at Tsé Fung.

From a Junior Suite Lake View I would look out to the lake and Mont Blanc, with 45 m² for time indoors. This is the international district, convenient for the UN and farther from the centre.

At the d’Angleterre I would choose the Bellevue Suite: 70 m² with a balcony on the lake, and the Jet d’Eau in the doorway. There are 45 rooms on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, and the Leopard Bar has live music 6 nights a week.

Les Armures is a 17th-century house one minute from St Peter’s Cathedral. Its 32 rooms share the house with Geneva’s oldest café, where the evening means a moitié-moitié fondue.

Curhaus towers above Zurich, art in the corridors and warm water facing the city.

Lausanne climbs behind the palace; from the right rooms, the lake appears beyond the rooftops.

In Schönried the brine pool runs outdoors; inside, the Stuben and cake table slow the day.

The palace Gstaad looks up to, from fondue in an old vault to music at GreenGo.

From boat to ridge, Lake Lucerne returns in the view from the warm pool.
