I come to Villa Honegg for the 34 °C outdoor pool above the lake, facing the mountains. There are only 25 rooms and suites.

Is it for you?

For 2, I would choose the Master Suite sitting room, with its fireplace facing the sofa and its lake-view balcony.

I’d ask for
A Master Suite Lake View.

Like a regular

  1. Sleep under the eaves

Ask for a Classic Top Floor if sleeping under a sloping ceiling with mountains at the window appeals. Its bed measures 160 × 200 cm.

  2. Park indoors or outside

For a garage space, allow CHF 25 per vehicle per night; outdoor parking is free. If you need an electric charging point, tell the hotel before arrival.

  3. Visit without a room

For a visit without a room, look for spa tickets when sales open, at the earliest 2–3 weeks ahead. Availability depends on hotel occupancy and the weather forecast; an online reservation is required.

What Villa Honegg is

Villa Honegg is an Art Nouveau villa built in 1905, at 914 metres on the Bürgenstock. It opened as a hotel in 1906, with guests arriving by horse-drawn carriage from the upper funicular station. After a long restoration it reopened in May 2011.11

In the Lumina Guide

In the guide because Honegg is my choice for slowing down together: from a suite sitting room to a small mountain table, there is no need to find a new destination each time.

How we choose the hotels

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Hotel Villa Honegg’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. One guest wakes to birdsong and cowbells. The drive up brings winding roads: a visitor attending a wedding finds these could be difficult for some travellers.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Sleep earns praise: one guest calls it the most comfortable they can remember. Another likes the room but finds the furniture a little dated; the views and pools remain the reason for booking.

  3. Staff and service

7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. A couple remembers homemade hibiscus iced tea and a tour of the hotel on arrival. On another stay, drinks orders are forgotten or mistaken: first water instead of cola, then missing ice and lemon.

  4. Breakfast

7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. À la carte orders bring a good choice alongside bread, pastries, fruit and yoghurt. One guest enjoys the cooked-to-order selection but expects a larger buffet at this level.

  5. Price

Some feel the views and good service justify the stay. A guest who spent Valentine’s night here in 2026 praises the care taken with the property but considers drinks and wine prices excessive.

236 guests said so on Google, from 1 November 2024 to 30 September 2026. The reviews include visits to restaurants and bars without an overnight stay. The other hotels are assessed on the same 5 themes. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Where to linger

The restaurant dining room beneath its chandelier

The restaurant

From the autumn menu, choose Lucerne char with black radish and pear, then Alpine pike perch with leek and apple. I like the way the menu keeps lake and mountain close together.1

Villa Honegg’s timber-lined sauna

Timber and warmth

Between swims, the sauna is my choice for warmth. Spa admission is included with a room stay.11

Calm before the train

After a grandson’s wedding, a guest faces a rushed train departure: the tickets cannot be found and time is tight. The calm assistance from the staff stands out in that moment; the account ends with everything going well.

A map and postcards

While waiting for the room to be ready, a family receives a map at reception for their first Swiss hike. Their daughters also enjoy writing the hotel’s postcards and sending them home.

Eggs before the bacon

During a 3-night stay, a family finds the eggs on the table well before the bacon arrives. They appreciate the friendly staff but want more variety at breakfast and on the dinner menu.
