Underwater restaurant in the Maldives: 6 rooms below the sea, compared

For an underwater restaurant in the Maldives worth planning a trip around, book 5.8 at Hurawalhi: 10 tables 5.8 metres under the lagoon, published prices of $250 for lunch and $315 for dinner with taxes and service, and a booking form for guests of other resorts. Ithaa at the Conrad is the original, open since 2005, with 14 seats and a visiting hour; H2O at You & Me has the lowest published price, $220 for lunch, food only; Only BLU comes with every Lobi Plan stay of 4 nights at OBLU SELECT Lobigili, 15 minutes from the airport; SEA at Anantara Kihavah has a wine cellar under the sea beside it; Subsix at Niyama serves a Nikkei lunch 500 metres out to sea. All 6 are at resorts whose own pages say the dining room is below the surface; we read them between 4 and 6 October 2026.

6 restaurants below the sea

5.8 first, then the other 5 by the trip each one suits. Nightly prices are Google’s for one night for 2, taxes and fees included, read on 4 and 5 October 2026 (3 October for Lobigili).

5.8’s dining room under the sea, tables along the glass tunnel and fish all around
01

Hurawalhi Island Resort

A dinner that is the reason for the trip: 10 tables in a room of glass, on a small adults-only island.

The trade-off

No meal plan covers it, All-Inclusive Plus included, and dinner for 2 with the wine pairing passes $900.

Why choose it

5.8 sits 5.8 metres under the lagoon, and the resort calls it the world’s largest all-glass undersea restaurant; it seats no more than 10 couples, at lunch at noon and 2pm and at dinner at 6pm, and a private Champagne breakfast can be booked (5.8). Lunch is 5 courses at $250 a person and dinner 7 at $315, taxes and service included; the wine pairing adds $95 and $145 (5-course lunch, 7-course dinner). The dress code is smart casual and barefoot, and guests of other resorts are welcome, with the transfer arranged by their own resort (5.8); Komandoo, nearby, sells the meal with a $25 boat (Komandoo). Hurawalhi has 90 villas for adults (villas), 40 minutes by seaplane, and the international flight must land by 3pm (transfer policy). Google showed $932 a night for 2 on 16 November 2026 and $535 on 12 May 2027.

02

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

The original: Ithaa, the first undersea restaurant, open since 2005, and the only one of the 6 with a daily breakfast sitting and a visiting hour.

The trade-off

Only 14 seats a service and no price on its page; the seaplane is compulsory, at $700 an adult.

Why choose it

Ithaa lies 5 metres beneath the surface and seats 14 guests a service: breakfast from 8 to 9.30am, a visiting hour from 11am to noon, lunch at 12.30pm and dinner at 6.30pm, smart casual, with a children’s menu (Ithaa). The Conrad calls it the world’s first undersea restaurant, opened in 2005 (its history page); no overnight stay is needed to book a table (Ithaa). On the Ultimate Rangali Experience plan, guests have a credit of $145 an adult to spend at Ithaa (offer). Cases of Dom Pérignon are ageing on the seabed in front of it until December 2026, for Ithaa’s diners (Ithaa). The seaplane takes 30 minutes and costs $700 an adult return (getting here). Google showed $1,086 a night for 2 on 16 November 2026 and $863 on 11 May 2027.

A table laid beneath H2O’s glass dome, a shark and fish beyond
03

You & Me Maldives

The lowest published price of the 6, on an adults-only island with an all-inclusive plan.

The trade-off

H2O stays outside the all-inclusive plan, food and drink alike, and the seaplane comes on top of the room.

Why choose it

H2O lies 6 metres below the surface with a 360° view and serves a set menu to 20 guests at a time, by reservation; its chef is Andrea Berton, whom the resort calls Michelin-starred (H2O). For bookings from 1 January 2026 lunch costs $220 a person and dinner $300, food only, with drinks charged as consumed; guests staying elsewhere write to the resort for a table (H2O). The Premium All-Inclusive plan leaves H2O out (Premium All-Inclusive), and the island takes guests from 16 (FAQ). The seaplane takes 45 minutes and cost $485 an adult return until 23 December 2026 on Booking.com. Google showed $756 a night for 2 on 16 November 2026 and $806 on 10 May 2027.

A couple at the window of Only BLU, the restaurant under the sea, with the reef and a passing fish.
04

OBLU SELECT Lobigili

A dinner under the sea that the meal plan pays for, 15 minutes by speedboat from the airport.

The trade-off

One dinner a guest every 4 nights, shared with Gaadiya 17, and a short stay gets none; the island is joined by a bridge to a family resort.

Why choose it

Lobigili bills Only BLU as the largest undersea restaurant in the Maldives (Only BLU); the page of OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, the family resort across the bridge, puts the horseshoe-shaped room 6.8 metres beneath the surface (Only BLU). It serves set menus of meat, seafood or vegetarian dishes, at lunch from Tuesday to Sunday and at dinner from 7 to 10pm, booked ahead (Only BLU). The Lobi Plan, the only way to stay, includes the return speedboat and, every 4 nights, one dinner a guest at Only BLU or at the Gaadiya 17 food truck (Lobi Plan). The island has 68 villas, all for 2 adults (brochure). Google showed $1,433 a night for 2 on 1 November 2026 and $1,405 on 1 December 2026, read on 3 October.

SEA’s dining room underwater, fish beyond the glass
05

Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas

European cooking and caviar below the waterline, beside a cellar of more than 450 bottles.

The trade-off

Closed on Fridays, dinner for adults only except on Mondays and Thursdays, no price on its page, and paid on top even on half board.

Why choose it

SEA serves contemporary European cooking and caviar under the sea, at lunch from noon to 2pm and at dinner from 7pm; it closes on Fridays, and dinner is for adults except on Mondays and Thursdays (SEA). Beside it the resort keeps what it calls the world’s first underwater wine cellar, with more than 450 bottles (cellar). Half board covered 2 of the 5 restaurants, a guest wrote in August 2026, and SEA was paid on top (Google reviews). The seaplane takes 35 minutes and costs $850 an adult return, $900 from 11 January 2027 (getting here). Google showed $1,606 a night for 2 on 16 November 2026 and $2,160 on 11 May 2027.

The Subsix dining room under the sea, with windows on the reef and fish around the tables
06

Niyama Private Islands Maldives

A Nikkei tasting lunch 500 metres out to sea, at a resort with a kids’ club for the rest of the day.

The trade-off

Lunch only, and the resort has no house reef: snorkelling there means a boat.

Why choose it

Subsix sits half a kilometre beyond the tip of Chill, one of Niyama’s 2 islands (THIS IS NIYAMA), and serves a Nikkei tasting menu at lunch, from 12 to 2.30pm (dining); Minor Hotels gives the depth as 6 metres and the price as $250 net a person (Minor Hotels). There is no reef to swim to from the beach: the outer-reef snorkelling trip, 10 minutes out by boat, is free (activities). The Explorers kids’ club takes children from 1 to 11 (families). The seaplane takes 45 minutes and costs $780 a person return, taxes included; otherwise a 30-minute domestic flight and 7 minutes by speedboat (getting here). Google showed $1,139 a night for 2 on 16 November 2026 and $1,003 on 10 June 2027.

Depths, seats, hours and meal prices come from each restaurant’s or resort’s own page, Subsix’s price and depth from Minor Hotels’ release. Transfer fares come from the resorts’ transport pages or Booking.com, read between 4 and 6 October 2026.

What decides the table under the sea

We read each restaurant’s page, its resort’s menus and transport pages, Booking.com and the guests’ reviews between 4 and 6 October 2026. 3 of the 6 publish a price; we say so where one does not.

  1. Depth and room. 5.8 sits 5.8 metres down, with 10 tables for no more than 10 couples (5.8); Ithaa is 5 metres down with 14 seats a service (Ithaa); H2O 6 metres, for 20 guests at a time (H2O); Only BLU 6.8 metres (Only BLU); Subsix 6 metres, 500 metres off the tip of Chill island (Minor Hotels, Niyama); SEA lies below the waterline next to its cellar (SEA).

  2. The sitting. Lunch shows the reef in the midday light; 5.8’s 6pm dinner runs from daylight into dark, when marine life is most active (7-course dinner). Subsix serves lunch only, from 12 to 2.30pm (dining); SEA closes on Fridays and keeps dinner for adults except on Mondays and Thursdays (SEA); Ithaa also serves breakfast and opens for an hour of visits (Ithaa).

  3. Who may book, and what it costs. Guests of other resorts can book 5.8, with the boat arranged by their own resort (5.8); Ithaa takes day visitors with no overnight stay (Ithaa); H2O takes requests from guests staying elsewhere (H2O). 5.8 asks $250 for lunch and $315 for dinner a head, taxes and service included (5-course lunch, 7-course dinner); H2O $220 and $300, food only (H2O); Subsix $250 net for lunch (Minor Hotels). Ithaa, SEA and Only BLU print no price on their pages.

Booking a table, getting there and what the price includes

Seats are few, and the trip to the restaurant can cost as much as the meal.

Book the table with the villa. Ithaa seats 14 a service (Ithaa) and 5.8 ten tables (5.8), so the sittings you want fill before you land; Hurawalhi advises against booking 5.8 on your arrival or departure day (7-course dinner), and H2O and Only BLU ask for a reservation ahead (H2O, Only BLU).

From another resort, plan the boat first. 5.8 takes outside guests, but the transfer is up to their own resort (5.8), and Komandoo sells the meal with its boat at $25 a person (Komandoo); the Conrad takes day visitors at Ithaa without a stay (Ithaa). If you are staying at the resort itself, the seaplane comes on top of the room: $700 an adult at the Conrad, $850 at Anantara Kihavah, $780 at Niyama; Lobigili’s speedboat is included in the Lobi Plan.

Read the price for what it covers. 5.8’s prices include taxes and service (7-course dinner); Subsix’s $250 is net (Minor Hotels); H2O’s page says food only and does not say whether tax and service are added (H2O). The nightly prices above are Google’s, taxes and fees included; resort rates on their own sites come before the green tax of $12 a person a day (MIRA).
