The Barcelona EDITION
At The Barcelona EDITION, the terrace looks over El Born’s sea of rooftops, with Santa Caterina market’s colourful roof among the buildings.
A week here, month by monthI’d choose it for walks through El Born and the Gothic Quarter, returning for a Punch Room cocktail. If you would rather spend half the day at a spa with an indoor pool, I’d look elsewhere, such as Mandarin Oriental.
Book directIs it for you?
I like a Loft Corner Suite for 2: the sitting area wraps around the window, and the bathroom looks towards the market roof. It is a room to enjoy before going out too.
- I’d ask for
- A Loft Corner Suite.
- Worth knowing
- The living area is open plan.

A bath is not in every room
Loft adds a bath alongside the shower; Superior has a rain shower. If a soak is part of the trip, select a category that includes a bath.
Confirm connecting rooms first
Connecting rooms must be confirmed when booking. The hotel can combine accommodation for up to 8 guests and consider an entire floor; with a group, ask for the layout before adding separate rooms together.
Parking across the street
SABA parking is opposite the hotel; the listed price is EUR 66.55 a night, including valet service. Include that figure when deciding how to travel for a weekend.

Distinctions
The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them
What do The Barcelona EDITION’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Location
Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Santa Caterina market and the old city on foot.
Room
6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Comfortable beds and careful finishes; space can feel limited.
Staff and service
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Friendly terrace welcomes, with differing experiences of table management.
Breakfast
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The taste of the food and waits for service appear together.
Price
The price is weighed against space, beds and service.
How we count
| What | Guests’ score | Guests who mention it | Happy |

225 guests said so on Google, from 7 November 2024 to 27 October 2026. Google reviews since 5 November 2024, within the available sample. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Barcelona: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 November 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in Barcelona:
Price: for 2, the night of 9 December 2026, from €293 on Google Hotels on 5 November 2026.
Dates I’d look at
I’d also look at 5 March 2027, with one night for 2 from EUR 359. On 1 September 2027, it costs EUR 937.
| Period | EUR a night |

| 6 November to 30 November 2026 | 344–873 |

| February 2027 | 345–2,537 |

| May 2027 | 440–708 |
| June 2027 | 440–744 |

More hotels in the guide

W Barcelona
Bofill’s sail on Barceloneta beach: 3 pools, an indoor spa and NOXE on the 26th floor.

Hotel Arts Barcelona
Renovated rooms by the sea and dinner at Enoteca; public-area works through June 2027.

Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona
I’d come to alternate Gaudí’s Barcelona with a few hours at the spa, with Casa Batlló a 2-minute walk away. If your days revolve around the sea, look for a waterfront hotel; here, the trip begins in the Eixample.

El Palace Barcelona
I’d come for a few days of grand-hotel life: breakfast at El Jardín, an afternoon in a suite and a Grand Hall cocktail. If every day should begin with your feet in sand, the waterfront offers a better base.

Marbella Club Hotel
Seafront gardens, heated pools, Thalasso Spa and 28 room and villa types.

Hotel Alfonso XIII
A colonnaded courtyard, garden pool and 17 room and suite variants.

Four Seasons Hotel Madrid
Puerta del Sol is close by when you head out; Dani Brasserie waits above the rooftops when you return. I’d come for a Madrid break with late evenings and room to spread out afterwards. For an intimate, tucked-away hotel, I’d look elsewhere.

Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid
The Prado outside, tea beneath Palm Court’s glass canopy on your return: a day at the Ritz does not need much filling. I’d come for museums and dinners planned with care. For a relaxed hotel where you wander about in swimwear, I’d choose elsewhere.

The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid
Breakfast at the Palace comes with a distraction overhead. I would come for the dome and days between the Prado and Thyssen; when booking, I would choose the view before counting square metres.

InterContinental Madrid by IHG
At InterContinental Madrid, start with a practical question: will you use the Club? I would pay for it when breakfast, breaks and work need a place in the hotel. For days spent out, I would start with the room itself.

Shangri-La Bangkok
I’d stay here to use the ferries and SkyTrain, then return for dinner on the river without another taxi. If you want an intimate hotel with few bedrooms, look elsewhere: Shangri-La’s 802 rooms belong to a different scale of stay.

The Peninsula Bangkok
I’d choose it for a trip centred on the river: come back from the heat, swim, then eat at Thiptara beneath a teakwood sala. If you want to walk straight out into Silom’s business district, choose the opposite bank; this is Khlong San.
