W Barcelona suits a beach break with time for the pools, with the lowest seller on Google showing nights from €363 for 2 adults in mid-March 2027. For a trip spent walking straight into the old town, I would choose a more central address.

Like a regular

The SUN Deck infinity pool over the sea, white loungers and the 2 Port Olímpic towers in the distance
  1. The weeks that cost less

For 13–19 March 2027, the calendar read on 13 October 2026 shows individual nights from €363 to €441. Compare 24 May 2027, at €4,858 for the night: I would settle the dates before choosing the room.

  2. Arriving with a car

If you bring a car, on-site parking costs €30 a day and there are charging points. If you arrive from Barcelona airport instead, the hotel offers a private car on request at €130 each way.

  3. Dinner during the works

From 26 October 2026 to late spring 2027, the renovation moves to the ground-floor public spaces and floors 1–6. COYA and NOXE remain open during this phase, so I would plan dinner around those 2 addresses.

What W Barcelona is

The sail-shaped tower, 98.8 metres tall by Wikipedia’s count, is Ricardo Bofill’s, and it opened in October 2009 as the first W in Western Europe. It stands at the end of Passeig de Joan de Borbó, where Barceloneta runs out and the port begins, and the hotel says it is the only one in the city with direct access to the beach. There are 473 rooms, 67 of them suites.

Between October 2025 and April 2026 floors 8 to 25 were redone to designs by Rockwell Group, the first phase of a renovation worth more than €80 million reported by La Vanguardia; by the end of July 2026, El Periódico wrote, 267 rooms and suites were ready. The second phase, from the lower floors to the public spaces, runs from 26 October 2026 to late spring 2027 on Marriott’s notice: the Sky rooms, from the 10th floor up, are among those already renovated.

There are 3 pools: the SUN Deck, an infinity pool over the sea kept for hotel guests, 11am to 7pm; WET Deck, the party pool, where non-residents come in on a €250 day pass for 2; and the heated indoor pool of the AWAY spa, adults only, 8am to 9pm. On the 26th floor NOXE is a bar, a Japanese restaurant and a club, over-21s only and with a smart dress code; further down are the FIRE grill and COYA’s Peruvian kitchen. SALT, the beach club on the sand, was showing as temporarily closed on 4 October 2026.

On Google it scores 4.4 out of 5 from 19,020 reviews, on Booking.com 8.4. Of the 865 Google reviews of the last 12 months, 612 give 5 stars: what recurs is the renovated rooms, the sea in front and staff thanked by name. It is a large and busy hotel: there can be a queue at reception, the room may not be ready at 3pm, and a dress code applies at the door of NOXE and of the WET Deck parties. The view wins over almost everyone.

How we choose the hotels

Those who come back

Among W Barcelona’s regulars, 7 praise the welcome and attentiveness of the staff. A guest who wrote in August 2025 found someone at check-in who had also welcomed them on the first visit. 2 returning guests, writing in June and July 2026, single out the renovated rooms. One of them chose breakfast at FIRE for the welcome there.

  • 12 of the 849 reviews with text state a return stay
  • From a second stay to several visits
  • One guest writes of coming every year

Returning stays identified in reviews written from 22 December 2024 to 4 October 2026; restaurant-only visits are excluded.

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

On the beach at the end of Barceloneta; Santa Maria del Mar 29 minutes on foot, the Sagrada Família 13 by car.

  2. Character

Bofill’s sail is the seafront’s landmark; inside, the W brings the music and the night all the way to the 26th floor.

  3. Rooms

Rooms of 39 and 40 m², renovated from the 8th floor up; the bathroom sits behind frosted glass.

  4. Food and social life

NOXE on the 26th floor, the FIRE grill and COYA; breakfast is extra, at around €35.

  5. Wellness

3 pools, a spa with a heated indoor pool and a gym open around the clock.

  6. The stay as a whole

From €320 a night in March to €1,533 on New Year’s Eve, plus €12 a person in tax; breakfast and parking, €30 a day, are extra.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do W Barcelona’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Sant Sebastià beach is outside the door and you see the sea from the rooms; taxis wait at the entrance, and El Born is half an hour’s walk away.

  2. Room

7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write about the renovated rooms, from the 8th floor up, bright and looking over the sea and the city; many advise choosing the sea view.

  3. Staff and service

6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests thank by name the people who looked after them: reception and the Welcome Desk, the bartenders in the lounge and on the WET Deck, the waiters at NOXE.

  4. Breakfast

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast is served in 2 rooms, over the pool and over the sea: guests remember the generous buffet and the waiters, often by name.

  5. Price

The sea view from the room is the reason given by guests who say the money was well spent.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 7 September 2025 to 4 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Barcelona: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 4 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
