The trade-off

The entry Over Water Villa has no private pool, and the boat is compulsory, so add it to the bill from the start.

The Over Water Villa¹³ measures 66 m². It has no private pool, and neither do the Superior and Deluxe Over Water Villas: the cheapest villa with one is the Ocean Pool Villa. The trade-off

From the island you see Malé¹⁸, the resort takes day visitors¹⁹, and its boat has no published hours.

Why choose it

The shared speedboat¹⁵ takes 15 minutes and comes free with every stay, terms apply. If you land late, ask whether it runs at night. The resort wants your flight details 3 days ahead¹⁶. Vadoo is adults only¹⁷ and sold on its Premium All Inclusive plan. A night for 2 costs $1,417²⁰.

There is no house reef within swimming reach, so snorkelling means a boat.

Why choose it

Transfers are by speedboat only, 24 hours a day²⁸, 25 minutes for 20 km, and the resort says outright that you can arrive late at night. Huvafen Fushi

For couples who want a reef they can swim to, and it is the one I would book after a late landing.

The trade-off

The $300 boat carries 10% service and 17% GST on top, and a shared transfer can mean up to 40 minutes in the airport lounge.

Why choose it

The speedboat takes 30 minutes and direct transfers run any time of day or night³⁴, shared with guests landing at similar times. The terms page³⁵ sets the shared boat at $300 per adult return plus 10% service and 17% GST, so about $386; confirm the total before you pay for the villa. The house reef³⁶ rings the island about 25 metres from shore. A night for 2 costs $2,326³⁷.

The trade-off

The speedboat runs on demand, 24 hours a day³⁸, and costs $1,027 net per adult return, $514 per child, with service and tax included. Some rates include it, so read yours. For travellers who want a yacht at the airport, a pool in every villa⁴⁷ and 11 restaurants and bars⁴⁸.

The trade-off

This is the dearest stay here and the dearest boat, and the lights of nearby islands show at night.

Why choose it

The resort’s yacht takes about 40 minutes and runs 24 hours a day⁴³. The fare is $960 per adult return⁴⁴, $480 from 6 to 12 and free under 6, plus 28.7% tax and service, so $1,236⁴⁶. What decides a resort you reach by boat

Once the seaplane is out of the picture, 4 things change from one island to the next.

The hour you land. Trans Maldivian¹ stops at sunset and asks you to be in the Maldives by 3.30pm. Miss that for Soneva Jani and the resort helps you book a night in Malé and the first seaplane at 9am (your journey²).
The boat’s hours. Veli¹¹, Kuda Villingili²¹, Kuda Huraa²⁸, Huvafen Fushi³⁴, the Ritz-Carlton³⁸ and Waldorf Astoria⁴³ run theirs at night. At Thulhagiri⁷ and Vadoo¹⁵, ask.
The fare. It runs from free at Vadoo¹⁵ to $1,236 with tax at Waldorf Astoria⁴⁶, and at Kuda Villingili²² it is free from 3 nights.
The wait at the airport. Most of these boats are shared. Huvafen Fushi³⁵ warns of 30 to 40 minutes at most in its lounge, Waldorf Astoria⁴⁴ of 30 to 60, and Thulhagiri⁷ aims for 2 hours at most after you land.

Anantara Kihavah⁴ charges $850 with taxes until 10 January 2027 and $900 from 11 January. Soneva Jani² charges $1,300 in 2026; in 2027 it charges $1,340 in high and peak season and $980 in shoulder season. So for this stay, count $590, $900 and up to $1,340. A boat can land on either side of that: free at Vadoo, $150 at Thulhagiri, $300 plus service and GST at Huvafen Fushi, $1,027 at the Ritz-Carlton, $1,236 at Waldorf Astoria.
