I’d come to spend a few days in the villa, with time down at the beach and dinner already settled. A trip built around walking out to bars and restaurants each evening needs a base closer to the island’s nightlife.

For two, Serenity appeals if a bathroom opening towards the greenery belongs in the holiday. Leave an evening without an excursion so the terrace gets some use.

Like a regular

KOH Thai Kitchen’s dining room
  1. Front row, then the walk

In an Oceanfront, I’d allow for the walk: the beach is less than 5 minutes away on foot. Front row gives the outlook; I’d choose the villa with the day’s trips to and from the water in mind.

  2. For a longer stay

Extended Stay also takes 10% off laundry. For several days in the villa, I’d keep that in mind before packing another suitcase.

  3. Time at the Tree House

I’d leave the children time for the Tree House: its programme is free from ages 4 to 12, with a break at noon. A parent or guardian stays with children under 4.

What Four Seasons Koh Samui is

The resort occupies Koh Samui’s northwestern tip. Its 71 accommodation units comprise 60 pool villas and 11 residence rentals; the latter give a group shared space without making everyone share a bedroom. Paths climb the hillside, with buggy service available around the property.

The useful difference between villas is where you finish the walk to the water. Beach Villa gives direct beach access; other villas sit higher on the slope. For a week with frequent outings, I would weigh the position as carefully as the floor area.

Dinner can move from regional dishes at KOH Thai Kitchen to seafood and meat at Pla Pla. There is room for an ordinary evening as well as a celebration. For a private dinner, I would choose the setting first and the menu afterwards.

We choose the hotels of this guide ourselves, one at a time: no one pays to be in it.

How we choose the hotels

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The views reward the hillside setting; getting around the property makes the buggy matter.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests like the space and comfort; one couple, though, remembers the discomfort of 2 single beds pushed together.

  3. Staff and service

The staff’s care leaves warm memories, even when waiting for a buggy interrupts the day’s rhythm.

  4. Breakfast

One account remembers the breakfast’s variety; a couple, after 2 nights, especially appreciates its quality.

  5. Price

Villa and dinner prices raise expectations for care and choice at the table.

175 guests said so on Google, from 18 February 2025 to 30 October 2026. Stored Google reviews dated from 4 November 2024. Collections are bounded; the latest 500 with text are read, or every available text when fewer. The comparison is with Amanpuri in Phuket; Four Seasons is on Koh Samui, a different island. For Amanpuri, we use the reviews already read by the guide, with their own collection and dates. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against among luxury retreats on Thailand’s islands:

Price: for 2, the night of 30 April 2027, from 36,266 THB on Google Hotels on 4 November 2026.

When I would change dates

Among the available nights, April sits well below January. Before moving up a villa category, I would see what changing the travel dates does.

Before your stay

What does a night cost?

For 2 adults, a night started at THB 39,200 on 2 March 2027, THB 36,266 on 30 April 2027 and THB 51,537 on 1 July 2027. Each night is searched separately; check the chosen quote for room, meals, taxes and cancellation. Prices from Google Hotels, 4 November 2026.

What kind of resort is it?

This is Four Seasons on Koh Samui’s northwestern coast, with villas and residences by the sea. The design draws on southern Thai architecture, on the site of a former orchard.

Where would I eat, and is breakfast included?

KOH Thai Kitchen serves regional Thai cooking; Pla Pla offers seafood, meat and Mediterranean dishes. The Bed and Breakfast offer includes daily restaurant breakfast for 2 guests per bedroom; other meals depend on the booking.

What is the spa like?

Secret Garden Spa has 5 treatment rooms, with indoor and outdoor spaces in a coconut grove. Thai massage, coconut treatments and couples’ rituals feature on the menu. It opens daily from 9am to 10pm, with advance reservations required.

Are treatments included in the stay?

Book the treatment alongside the rate that includes it: some offers bundle a session, while others give a discount. A visit without an overnight stay needs the spa booking’s own price and access conditions.

Which pools can I use?

Every accommodation category has a private pool; the shared infinity pool sits beside the beach, among the palms. Private-pool sizes and positions vary, so compare the actual category.

How do villas and residences differ?

Villas suit a smaller party; residences add shared space, from one to 5 bedrooms, and a dedicated assistant. Published category areas should not be treated as measured indoor floor space alone.

How far is it from the airport?

The address is 219 Moo 5, Angthong. The hotel puts Koh Samui airport at 20 km and around 45 minutes by car; actual journey time depends on traffic.

Can I arrive in my own car?

Before arranging an arrival by car, I would confirm the parking space and any charge. Airport transfer is a separate item to settle.

Can I hold a wedding, and what does it cost?

Magical Beach Celebration accommodates up to 50 guests for THB 175,000 plus 17.7%, for weddings in 2026 and 2027. Private Cove and Beach House are included; room charges and legal marriage registration are excluded. Main Beach can seat 200 for a different event arrangement.

What do visitors say?

The Google profile includes stays and restaurant visits. I’d read each account for the experience it describes, then choose the villa’s position for my own trip.

What would I do beyond the beach?

There is a gym, tennis, a Muay Thai ring, kayaking and paddleboarding. Beach House has a games room; lessons, excursions and rentals have their own booking conditions.

What happens on New Year’s Eve?

The programme features dinner at KOH Thai Kitchen, a 6-course Mediterranean menu at Pla Pla and a beach party with live music, DJs and fireworks. Have the price and any compulsory participation included in the quote for your stay.

When is it open?

Current offers cover selected dates through 15 December 2027. I’d settle the travel nights after the chosen villa is confirmed.

Which offer would I compare?

Extended Stay takes 20% off the Room Rate from 4 nights, with breakfast for 2 guests per bedroom and selected discounts. It applies on selected dates through 15 December 2026 and from 15 January to 15 December 2027, subject to availability and exclusions. Above 2 guests in the same bedroom, the supplement for additional occupants includes breakfast.

Garden paths and beds beneath the mountains

Babylonstoren

At Babylonstoren I’d leave room in the diary: harvesting with the gardeners and baking with the bakers can shape a day. Come to sleep on the farm; for daily sightseeing in Cape Town, I would stay in the city.

Golden vessels and a warmly lit corridor in the Grand Hyatt Tokyo lobby

Grand Hyatt Tokyo

Keep this base when you want choices left at the end of the day: dinner, a bar or another walk around Roppongi. I’d add Club only with time to return; paying for it while crossing the lobby once a day would miss the point. For a small garden-and-tatami inn, I’d choose elsewhere.

A woman in kimono on the bridge beside Kyoto’s Shakusui-en pond garden

Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto

I wouldn’t fill every day with temples. Keep an afternoon for tea, the pond and a swim, then go out again without trying to finish the whole city. If you already know you will return only late at night, I’d choose a base closer to those evenings.

The pale palace and geometric island gardens, surrounded by lake and hills

Raffles Udaipur

I’d come with room in the diary: a book at Writers Bar, an unhurried lunch and an evening spent at the hotel. The island earns its place in the trip when you want time here. For several daily outings around the old city, I would sleep closer to them.

The outdoor pool and facade of The Oberoi, New Delhi

The Oberoi, New Delhi

I’d leave some of the diary empty here. Go out, come back, choose dinner without starting another restaurant search across the city: that is how I’d use part of the stay. If a hotel is simply somewhere to sleep, I’d compare that premium with what an extra night in India could give you.
