Our verdict

Pansea Beach from the hillside through the coconut palms: white sand, turquoise water and a rocky point

A resort for doing very little, very well: breakfast by the pool, a morning on the beach below the steps, a massage, and dinner at Akari, Arva, Buabok, Nura or the Sunset Terrace, without leaving the headland. The rate covers breakfast, afternoon tea and the daily movement classes; lunch, dinner and treatments are extra.

Amanpuri opened in 1988, Aman’s first resort, and its pavilions with pointed roofs draw on the architecture of Ayutthaya, the old Siamese capital, to Ed Tuttle’s design (Travellers World, 13 October 2026). The MICHELIN Guide gives it 3 Keys. It closed from 15 May to 13 September 2026 and reopened on 14 September (Aman); the works added 6 pavilions, a treatment room and a dry sauna, and the Sunset Terrace was reconfigured with more seating, Travellers World reports.

The choice is between a pavilion and a villa. The pavilions, 115 m² for the 2 categories without a pool and 147 m² for the 5 with one, look onto the garden, part of the sea or the open sea, and raised walkways lead to them through the palms; the Two-Bedroom Pool Pavilion has 262 m². The villas, of 3 to 9 bedrooms towards the tip of the headland, each come with a pool, a housekeeper and a Thai chef.

Every stay includes breakfast, afternoon tea, soft drinks in the room, the daily movement classes, the gym, sauna, steam room and cold plunge, the tennis courts and selected non-motorised watersports equipment (accommodation); the airport car is included from 3 nights. On Google Hotels, read on 16 October 2026, a Pavilion cost THB 81,298 a night, taxes included, for 3 nights booked together, 2 to 5 December 2026.

How we choose the hotels

Our reading, point by point

Aman’s first resort, opened in 1988, pavilions after the architecture of Ayutthaya, 3 MICHELIN Keys.

  3. Rooms

Pavilions of 115 to 262 m², a pool in 6 of the 8 categories; villas of 3 to 9 bedrooms with their own chef.

  4. Food and social life

Thai at Buabok, Japanese at Akari, Italian at Arva, Mediterranean on the sand at Nura, cocktails on the Sunset Terrace.

  5. Wellness

12 treatment rooms, a Spa House with a Banya sauna and its own pool, a sea-view gym and a Muay Thai ring.

  6. The stay as a whole

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Amanpuri’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write of the beach below the resort, its white sand and its calm, and of the sunsets; a few find it a long way from the island’s towns.

  2. Room

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write of spacious pavilions and villas, teak and private pools; one guest in December 2025 finds the rooms clean but not very new, and another in April 2024 regretted booking a garden room.

  3. Staff and service

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests describe staff who know their names and remember what they like, attendants who look after them on the beach and, in the villas, housekeepers of their own.

  4. Breakfast

Breakfast is at Buabok, beside the pool; guests find it delicious, and a family in November 2025 looked forward to the dish of the day every morning.

  5. Price

5 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. Many guests find it expensive; those who think it worth the money point to the beach, the service and the privacy, the others to the price of food and drink.

The scores come from 335 Google reviews with text, left from 12 July 2013 to 14 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Phuket: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 16 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Phuket:

  • Keemala
