I would choose Eden Roc for days between the lawn, the pools and Lake Maggiore. In winter, though, the resort spa closes and stays are at Marina.

Is it for you?

For 2, I would choose the Deluxe Suite: I would sit on the lake-facing balcony, leaving the bedroom and sitting room for the warmer hours.

I’d ask for
The Fully Individual Massage: 50 minutes of massage and a 10-minute consultation, CHF 190 on the 2026 spa menu.
Worth knowing
A treatment cancelled less than 24 hours beforehand, or missed, is charged in full.

Like a regular

The pool and lawn between garden hedges and trees
  1. Heading out on the water

In the summer season, I would take a kayak or stand-up paddleboard: use is complimentary for guests. I would set off from the hotel shore, then decide whether to stay by the lake or return to the pool.

  2. Getting around without a car

To explore Ticino in summer, I would ask for one of the e-bikes included with a stay. On a rainy day, I would use the Ticino Ticket for complimentary public transport within the canton.

  3. New Year at Marina

On 31 December 2026, I would choose Marina for the 6-course menu at CHF 280 per person, or the vegetarian menu at CHF 230. The evening begins at 8pm with an aperitif and continues with live music.

What Eden Roc is

Eden Roc is a Tschuggen Collection resort on Ascona’s lakefront, with different buildings arranged around the garden. Carlo Rampazzi’s interiors range from Marina’s greens and yellows to the suites’ more restrained fabrics. The hotel has its own harbour and watersports school; Ascona’s piazza is about a 5-minute walk away.1234

In the Lumina Guide

How we choose the hotels

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Hotel Eden Roc’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest walks into Ascona and enjoys the quiet garden; another recalls direct lake access.

  2. Room

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. One guest cools and darkens the room successfully; another describes a small, dark bathroom and a parking-facing terrace.

  3. Staff and service

One guest appreciates breakfast staff who know their preferences from the second day; another guest describes restaurants, bars and the dock closed for a wedding during their stay.

  4. Breakfast

One guest finds breakfast exceptional; another recalls the Eggs Benedict and the quality of the rest of the buffet.

  5. Price

One guest finds the stay expensive but worth every franc; another describes a hefty price tag.

85 guests said so on Google, from 4 January 2025 to 15 October 2026. The reviews also include bar and restaurant visits. The other hotels are assessed on the same 5 themes. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Where to linger

Marina’s dining room, with a chandelier and turquoise glasses

Dinner at Marina

At Marina, I would choose the pumpkin-filled bottoni with Taleggio fondue and pine nuts: CHF 30 on the 9 October 2026 menu. Dinner is served from 6.30pm to 9pm, including during Marina’s winter season.12

The spa entrance lined with blue mosaic

A day in the summer season

In the morning

Breakfast at Eden Roc

In the summer season, I would begin at Eden Roc restaurant, where breakfast runs from 7am to 11am. The stay includes the buffet and à la carte options.

On the lake

Booking a Riva

To go further out, I would book a charter: boats include Riva Aquarama and Riva Rivale. Arrange it with the hotel, separately from complimentary equipment use.

At lunch

La Casetta on the shore

For lunch, I would choose fish and Mediterranean dishes at La Casetta, right on the shore. The restaurant opens for Easter from 25 to 28 March, then reopens on 1 May 2027.

In the afternoon

The Finnish sauna

In the afternoon, I would visit the Finnish sauna at 90°C. Saunas and steam rooms open from 12pm to 8pm, with relaxation areas for breaks in between.

Before dinner

An aperitif at Eden Bar

At Eden Bar, I would ask the bartender for an alcohol-free cocktail and sit on the terrace. From 26 March 2027, the bar opens from 10am until one in the morning, leaving time to return after dinner.

The shower and the hotel’s response

A couple find only scalding water in their shower. In their account of the stay, the manager and front office manager take personal charge of the problem and keep in touch with them.
