I would arrive at the Schweizerhof by train and have the porter meet me at the platform; breakfast the next morning is already included. For a day spent between sauna and hammam, I would choose a hotel with its own spa.

  1. The room to choose

For 2 I would choose a 28–30 m² Superior Double: the beds can be separated and there is space for an extra bed, while Standard rooms suit travellers happy to keep the room compact.

  2. Dates I would consider

Individual nights from 30 March to 1 April 2027 run from CHF 439 to CHF 460; for a January trip, nights from 4 to 10 January 2027 range from CHF 420 to CHF 462.

  3. Arriving with luggage

With luggage I would use the porter’s station-platform meeting service; booking directly also brings a City Ticket for public transport, a practical reason to leave the car out of the trip altogether.

  4. Charges to allow for

A dog adds CHF 25 per night and cannot attend breakfast or enter La Soupière; arriving by car means CHF 30 for 24 hours of parking plus CHF 20 for valet service.

What the Schweizerhof is

The station is opposite and a porter can meet you at the platform to help with luggage. It is an easy starting point for a rail itinerary, work appointments or a city break without a car. Inside, electrically adjustable beds and triple glazing sit alongside red velvet and chandeliers.

Standard Singles start at 16 m². For a few days together I would choose a 28–30 m² Superior Double. The Dufour categories change the stay: a Junior Suite separates bedroom and living room, the Wellness Suite puts a hammam and bathtub in the bathroom, and the Signature adds a city-facing balcony.

Buffet breakfast is included, and the evening butler brings chocolate. Sauna time means going out to Holmes Place Jelmoli; I would keep that arrangement distinct from a hotel with a large spa in-house. La Soupière serves fish and seasonal menus, while the bar schedules its own jazz evenings.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Schweizerhof Zürich’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests find the station opposite convenient for rail arrivals and getting around, with shops and restaurants within walking distance.

  2. Room

7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests like the adjustable beds; some find the bedrooms and bathrooms small.

  3. Staff and service

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Fruit and chocolates in the room, alongside the evening service, are among the touches guests remember.

  4. Breakfast

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests enjoy hot eggs and dishes prepared to order; some accounts report a limited choice.

  5. Price

Value for money divides opinion: of 34 people, 15 write positively and 15 negatively. Some value the location and thoughtful touches; others find rooms and service fall short for the price.

450 guests said so on Google, from 16 September 2020 to 17 October 2026. Retrieved reviews cover overnight stays and restaurant and bar visits. The window begins after the Dufour floor refurbishment completed in August2020. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Zurich: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 19 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Zurich:

Price: for 2, the night of 30 March 2027, from 439 CHF on Google Hotels on 19 October 2026.

What a night costs, period by period

For a few days I would look at 4–10 January 2027, with individual nights from CHF 420 to CHF 462. From 31 May to 14 September 2027 the calendar moves to a CHF 511–847 range.

Minima for one night searched alone, 2 adults, with no room or meals specified; the calendar stops at 14 September 2027. For 16–23 November 2026 booked together, the lowest seller shows CHF 537 a night.

Schweizerhof Zürich or Widder Hotel

I would arrive at the Schweizerhof by train, with the porter able to meet you on the platform. I would choose Widder for sleeping among frescoes and medieval houses in the Old Town.

I would begin with the included buffet; Café Gourmet serves croissants and in-house pastries for a later stop.12

I would come for a weekday lunch or dinner Monday to Saturday, choosing fish, grilled dishes or the seasonal menu.12

A cocktail at Schweizerhof Bar

A Thursday with jazz

The bar’s 2026 programme puts jazz on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, with free admission.1

Before you book

What kind of hotel is Schweizerhof Zurich?

This is the 5-star hotel at Bahnhofplatz 7, opposite the main railway station, with 92 rooms and suites. It opened in 1877, has been family-owned since 1971 and received its fifth star in August 2024.12345

How much does a night at Hotel Schweizerhof Zurich cost?

Google Hotels, read on 19 October 2026, shows CHF 547 for 16 November 2026, CHF 566 for 14 December 2026 and CHF 473 for 12 January 2027. These are minima for individual nights searched alone for 2 adults, with no room, meals or tax inclusions specified. The hotel includes buffet breakfast in its stay offer.12

Which rooms and suites would I choose?

Standard Single rooms measure 16–20 m², Standard Doubles 20–25 m² and Superior Doubles 28–30 m². I would choose a Superior for an extra bed. Dufour Deluxe rooms have 33 m² and Junior Suites 40 m²; both the Wellness and Signature suites measure 55 m², with a hammam and bathtub in the former and a private balcony in the latter.1234567

Is breakfast included?

Yes, buffet breakfast is included in the stay. Café Gourmet also serves croissants and pastries made in-house, with its own menu and charges.12

Where are the gym and spa?

The hotel’s Boutique Gym is open 24 hours. Sauna and hammam are at the separate Holmes Place Jelmoli club, with admission included for hotel guests through a concierge voucher. The Dufour Wellness Suite has its own hammam and bathtub.1234

Can families book extra beds or connecting rooms?

Standard Single and Double rooms cannot accommodate extra beds. Other categories carry a CHF 90 supplement including the extra breakfast; cots or extra beds in the parents’ room are free for children up to 12. Deluxe Family arrangements combine 2 rooms for 4 guests, while Grand Family arrangements combine 3 rooms for up to 6.12

Can I bring a dog?

Small pets are accepted for CHF 25 per night excluding food; larger animals require a specific arrangement. Pets cannot attend breakfast or enter La Soupière.12

Where can I park and what does it cost?

There are 3 loading spaces outside, limited to 20 minutes. Guests pay CHF 30 for 24 hours at City Parkhaus on Gessnerallee; valet service adds CHF 20. The parking charge and valet surcharge are separate.1

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in starts at 2pm and check-out is by noon. Early arrival and late departure depend on availability, and late check-out carries a charge. A porter can meet arriving guests with their luggage at the station platform on request.123

What does La Soupière serve?

Fish, grilled dishes and seasonal menus. Lunch runs Monday to Friday, 11.30am–2.30pm, and dinner Monday to Saturday, 6.30pm–10pm. I would plan a restaurant visit for a day other than Sunday.12

When do Café Gourmet and Schweizerhof Bar open?

Café Gourmet opens daily from 8am to 9pm. The bar opens at 10.45am on weekdays and 4pm at weekends, closing at 11.30pm. The 2026 programme schedules live jazz on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, with free admission.123

How do I arrive from Zurich Airport?

Take a train to Zurich main station, directly opposite the hotel. The rail journey is about 10 minutes; allow additional time between the airport entrance and platform. A car transfer can be arranged for a charge.12

What do direct bookings include?

The direct booking offer includes a City Ticket for public transport and cancellation until 2pm on arrival day for flexible rates. Non-refundable offers have their own conditions, so choose the rate before relying on that flexibility.12

Are rooms quiet beside the station?

The windows are triple glazed, a useful detail on Bahnhofplatz. Noise varies with the room and what is happening outside; I would choose the address for convenience, then match the category and outlook to my needs.12

What do guests say?

Google’s overall rating is 4.5/5 from 1,338 ratings. The 450 accounts in the current window repeatedly mention the station opposite, staff help and comfortable beds; some describe small rooms. Breakfast accounts are mostly positive, while views on value are more divided.12

Can the hotel host a reception or wedding?

The Belle Époque salons and La Soupière host receptions, weddings and private celebrations for up to 50 guests, with tailored menus. I would consider it for a small central gathering with easy rail arrivals.12
