One last drink at Alex
The bar opens daily from 7am to midnight. After dinner I would choose a cocktail or a Swiss wine without making another trip into the city.1
At Alex Lake Zürich, you leave from the jetty in Thalwil and reach Zurich on the hotel’s boat. I’d choose an upper-floor balcony, to come back and sleep beside the lake.
A week here, month by monthFor a few slow days beside the water, I would head for an upper floor at Alex Lake Zürich; individual nights on 13–15 November 2026 start at CHF 295 for 2. If you want Zurich on your doorstep, I would stay in the city.
Hotel websiteDoes it suit you?
5 pairs of hotels, and the guide tells you whether this one suits you.
I would choose a Lakeview Deluxe of at least 32 m² on the 3rd or 5th floor; with children I would consider the Family, from 78 m² for 4–6, and confirm its connecting door on the corridor.
Individual nights on 13–15 November 2026 range from CHF 295 to CHF 307; for a break after the holidays I would consider 4–10 January 2027, from CHF 274 to CHF 329 a night.
With a table booked at Storchen, Widder or Restaurant Buech I would use the complimentary guest boat; without a restaurant booking, Thalwil–Zurich costs CHF 30 per person each way, with 3 departures daily.
With a dog I would budget CHF 35 a night, excluding food; valet parking costs CHF 30 per 24 hours and electric charging CHF 0.50 per kWh.
I would book an upper-floor Lakeview Deluxe and start with something undemanding: opening the balcony door. Current photographs show pale wood, light curtains and tables made for taking your time; a kitchenette makes a longer stay appealing.
Alex is in Thalwil, directly on the water. It reopened on 15 April 2025 after renovation; the catalogue ranges from a double of at least 28 m² to combined multi-bedroom suites. The floor matters as much as the area: I would confirm the precise room and view, especially on lower levels.
The boutique spa has a vitality pool, sanarium and lake access; the gym stays open through the night. For dinner I would book Luigi De Gregorio’s cooking, then take a green stool at the bar. Before heading into Zurich I would check the boat timetable and complimentary-transfer conditions.
Lumina Guide 2027
At Alex Lake Zürich I would book an upper-floor Lakeview Deluxe and take my coffee onto the balcony above the lake. Zurich can wait.

What do Alex Lake Zürich’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests enjoy lake views from their rooms and spending time on the balcony.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Space and design draw praise; some guests in lower rooms report obstructed views or limited privacy.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Thoughtful touches for children draw praise; one account describes restaurant disorganisation, another a slow check-in.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests enjoy breakfast beside the water, with views through the large windows.
On Google, 8 of the 12 people discussing value for money write negatively. Some find the restaurant portions small for the price; one describes a wall blocking the lake view from the balcony.

134 guests said so on Google, from 24 April 2025 to 18 October 2026. Reviews of stays and dining from 16 April 2025, after the 15 April reopening following renovation. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Zurich: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 19 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in Zurich:
Price: for 2, the night of 14 November 2026, from 295 CHF on Google Hotels on 19 October 2026.
For a break after the holidays I would consider 4–10 January 2027, with individual nights from CHF 274 to CHF 329. From May to August 2027 the calendar rises to CHF 484–690, a difference that would make me choose the month first.
| Period | CHF a night |
|---|---|
| 19 October to 23 December 2026 | 289–404 |
| 24 December 2026 to 2 January 2027 | 387–621 |
| 3 January to 28 February 2027 | 274–451 |
| 1 March to 17 April 2027 | 405–566 |
| 1 May to 31 August 2027 | 484–690 |
Minima for individual nights searched separately for 2 adults, with room, meals and taxes unspecified; dates without a price remain unknown. For 16–23 November 2026 booked together, the lowest seller shows CHF 319 a night and the official-site listing on Google CHF 332 a night.
At Alex I would choose a Lakeview Deluxe balcony in Thalwil, facing the lake. At Widder I would sleep beside the Historic Junior Suite’s frescoes, already in Zurich’s Old Town.

The bar opens daily from 7am to midnight. After dinner I would choose a cocktail or a Swiss wine without making another trip into the city.1

The sanarium, loungers and vitality pool belong to an intimate lakeside spa, included for guests.12

Mediterranean cooking with Italian and Swiss produce, served every evening from 6pm to 9.30pm.1

The Thalwil–Zurich boat takes about 30 minutes; I would check the timetable and reservation first.1
The boat is complimentary for guests dining at Storchen, Widder or Restaurant Buech. Otherwise Thalwil–Zurich costs CHF 30 per person each way.1
The spa is intimate and included for guests, 9am–10pm. Before coming for a swim I would ask about the pool’s size and temperature.12
Valet costs CHF 30 per 24 hours and a dog CHF 35 a night; I would include both before comparing room rates.12

I would start with breakfast from 7am to 10.30am, with a buffet and eggs cooked to order, checking inclusion in my rate.
I would reserve the 11.05am boat from Thalwil, arriving in Zurich at 11.35am; dining at one of the 3 eligible restaurants makes the guest transfer complimentary.
I would save an hour for the boutique spa’s sanarium and loungers, open until 10pm and included for guests.
I would book Luigi De Gregorio’s Mediterranean cooking, served daily from 6pm to 9.30pm.
I would finish with a cocktail at Alex Bar’s gold counter, open until midnight.
Travelling with a 4-year-old, we appreciated the attention, items prepared for him in the room and evening turndown. We enjoyed the design, view and restaurant.
Lake views from the room and restaurant, a clean modern room and friendly staff. Frequent trains to Zurich were an advantage, and we enjoyed Eggs Benedict at breakfast.
I booked a lake-view room, but a wall obstructed the view when seated on the balcony. I was asked for a supplement to move higher; the difference between the booking photographs and room was disappointing.
This 5-star hotel stands directly on Lake Zurich at Seestrasse 182 in Thalwil. HotellerieSuisse lists 43 units, described by the hotel as 41 studios and 2 penthouses. The 10 catalogue entries include combined suites and should not be added up as extra rooms. The hotel reopened on 15 April 2025 after renovation.1234
Google Hotels, read on 19 October 2026 for 2 adults, shows CHF 319 for 16 November 2026, CHF 337 for 14 December and CHF 313 for 12 January 2027. These are minima for individual nights searched separately, with room, meals and taxes unspecified. For several nights I would price the complete stay.1
I would choose the floor and outdoor space together. Lakeview Deluxe Studios with balconies start at 32 m² on the 3rd or 5th floor; Panorama Junior Suites start at 38 m², with corner balconies on the 2nd, 4th or 6th floor. Garden Deluxe Studios start at 28 m² with ground-floor patios. The Lower Lakeside Studio, from 39 m², offers convenient spa and sun-deck access; I would request a photograph of the view from the assigned room.1234
The Family Two Bedroom Suite starts at 78 m² and is listed for 4–6 people: 2 adjoining studios, each with a bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette. The hotel describes a connecting door on the corridor, so I would confirm how the arrangement closes off before booking with young children. The 2- and 3-bedroom penthouses measure 90 and 120 m²; maximum occupancy needs confirmation for the chosen configuration.123
City & Lake Resort terms allow children through age 12 to stay free in existing bedding where occupancy permits and a breakfast-inclusive rate is booked and confirmed; arrange this in advance. An extra bed costs CHF 50 a night where permitted. The terms list CHF 50 per additional person over 12 per night when consuming breakfast. I would confirm the total for the exact ages, beds and rate.1
Hotel guests use the spa and gym free of charge; the spa opens daily, 9 am–10 pm. The Day Spa Experience instead runs 10 am–5 pm and includes a robe, slippers, towels, welcome drink, 55-minute massage and 2-course lunch from noon. It costs CHF 290 per person Monday–Thursday, CHF 320 Friday and Sunday, or CHF 325 on Saturday with brunch replacing lunch. For 2 people, prices are CHF 580, CHF 640 and CHF 650 respectively. The offer is valid 1 January 2026–31 December 2027, subject to availability.123
The air-conditioned gym is free, exclusive to hotel guests and open 24 hours. Equipment includes treadmills, cross-trainers, bikes and dumbbells; Pilates, yoga or personal training can be arranged separately.1
Breakfast runs from 7am to 10.30am, with a buffet and eggs cooked to order. The public price is CHF 59, CHF 29.50 for ages 6–11 and free under 6. Brunchissimo takes place only on Saturdays, 11.30am–3pm, at CHF 89, CHF 44.50 for ages 6–11 and free under 6. I would check room-rate breakfast inclusion separately from brunch.1
Luigi De Gregorio cooks Mediterranean food using Italian and Swiss produce. Lunch is noon–2pm and dinner 6pm–9.30pm daily, with snacks 2pm–6pm and 9.30pm–10.30pm. For dinner I would like a terrace table and enough time to enjoy the lake.1
Alex Bar opens daily from 7am to midnight. I would take one of the green stools at the gold counter; Thursday brings Afterwork Aperitivo from 5.30pm.12
Hotel guests receive complimentary boat transfers when dining at Storchen, Widder or Restaurant Buech. Without a restaurant reservation, each one-way ride costs CHF 30 per person Thalwil–Zurich, CHF 45 Zurich–Herrliberg or CHF 15 Thalwil–Herrliberg. There are 3 daily departures from Thalwil to Zurich at 11.05am, 3.05pm and 6.05pm, taking about 30 minutes; I would secure a place before planning around it. There is also a free limousine shuttle, with its own timetable.1
The hotel describes Thalwil station as a short walk away. It gives rail journey estimates of about 8 minutes from Zurich HB and 30 from the airport to the station, plus the walk, and estimates under 40 minutes from the airport by car or public transport. These are hotel estimates rather than a measured door-to-door route. Airport taxis and transfers can be arranged; no price or free airport transfer is established.1
Valet service operates 24 hours at CHF 30 per 24 hours. Electric charging costs CHF 0.50 per kWh. I would add these to the room budget, then choose between rail and the shuttles for Zurich according to the timetable.1
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at CHF 35 per dog per night, excluding food. The terms permit them in the lobby and restaurants at lunch and dinner, subject to individual venue rules. I would confirm the particular table and other dining times before arrival.1
The room is guaranteed from 3pm and check-out is by noon. Early access is possible if the room is ready; otherwise secure luggage storage is explicitly offered. I would arrange any later departure with reception, subject to availability.1
Yes: the Google Hotels calendar has nights on sale in every month from October 2026 to August 2027, and on 31 December the hotel holds its Festa Italiana. The only long stretch without prices runs from 18 to 30 April 2027.1
Festa Italiana on 31 December 2026 begins at 7pm and continues until 2am. CHF 295 per person includes an aperitif, a 4-course shared-table menu, a glass of limoncello and DJ entertainment. Additional drinks and consumption are charged separately. The evening is booked on its own, on top of the room.1
The restaurant and terrace accommodate up to 100 for an aperitif or 80 at long tables. The factsheet lists an evening exclusive-use minimum spend of CHF 17,500 from June to September, 4pm–midnight, or CHF 9,500 from October to May, 6pm–midnight, including setup and dismantling time. Restaurant groups of up to 45 have a CHF 100 per-person minimum. These are event conditions, rather than a complete wedding package; menus, flowers and the programme need a quotation.12
The best-price guarantee applies to the same search day and matching room, cancellation, party and stay conditions. For an equivalent lower rate, the hotel states it will match the price and assign a higher room category if available at check-in. I would compare the conditions before the headline amount.1
Google’s rating is 4.5/5 from 671 reviews. Guests enjoy the lake views, thoughtful touches for children and breakfast beside the water. Some describe waits at check-in or in the restaurant and high prices; one recalls a lower room with a wall obstructing the view. I’d check the floor and category before booking. The listing also includes restaurant visits.12
The vitality pool is an indoor relaxation pool with lake views in the boutique spa. The facilities also include a sanarium, infrared treatment and loungers. There is direct lake access for a swim outdoors.12
The address is Seestrasse 182, 8800 Thalwil, on Lake Zurich’s western shore. A guest reviewing on 27 July 2025 describes their room as quiet despite the lakeside road, thanks to sound insulation; the same account also reports an air conditioner they could not switch off.12
Escape the City is offered for stays from 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027, with a minimum of 2 nights: 10% off the Best Flexible Rate, CHF 100 restaurant credit per stay, breakfast and minibar soft drinks. Its terms name Design Double categories and above and exclude suites; the offer depends on availability of the chosen eligible category.1

At La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich I would head up to La Muña: beneath the dome, among exposed beams and lanterns, dinner brings Japan and Peru together.

I would choose the Castellan Suite’s rooftop terrace: plants, a chair and Enge’s rooftops, with the lake a short walk away. This 1930s Art Deco building has 57 rooms and suites; for swimming and saunas, you head outside to nearby Stockerhof.

Curhaus towers above Zurich, art in the corridors and warm water facing the city.

On Lake Geneva’s quay, the President Wilson pairs dinner at Bayview with an outdoor pool for the warmer months. I would start with a lake-facing room.

Here the park runs down to the lake: the outdoor pool sits among the trees, with Lake Geneva and the Alps ahead. I’d bring even the youngest, since La Petite Réserve takes them from 6 months, and keep an evening for Cantonese dinner at Tsé Fung.
