I would leave the car here: the Old Town starts outside the door. A night for 2 adults starts at CHF 607 on 5 and 6 February 2027.

The Lifestyle Suite bedroom opening towards the separate living room
  1. The space to choose

Between an 18–25 m² River View Double and the 35 m² Panorama Corner, I would pay for the latter: I would use the sofa and extra space.

  2. The 3-night package

For 3 nights in 2026, I would check Stay Longer first: 15% off the room and breakfast included. The package runs through 31 December 2026.

  3. Dinner across the lake

For dinner at Alex or Buech, I would arrange the Guest Card transfer too: a free private boat or limousine for hotel guests with a table booked at a group venue.

  4. Lunch at THE NEST

I would plan THE NEST for a weekday lunch, when reservations are accepted. Evening tables are first come, first served, and weather can change the hours; guest fast-lane entry is not a table booking.

What Storchen is

For a separate bedroom and living room, I would move up to the 65 m² Lifestyle Suite, which also has a guest bathroom and private steam shower. That is the upgrade I would notice most. The 35 m² Panorama Corner has a sofa, but no separate living room.12

With children, I would look at the Family Room: 56–61 m², 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I would choose it for the separate bedrooms; the Old Town Double, by comparison, is 18 m².12

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Storchen’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests like exploring the Old Town on foot with the Limmat outside. There is a current drawback: an August 2026 review reports construction noise and disrupted views beside the hotel.

  2. Room

7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests praise well-kept, comfortable rooms, but small rooms recur too. One calls the room small yet cosy; a family reports that the hotel’s cot would not open inside its assigned room.

  3. Staff and service

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The care has specific examples: a card and champagne after a luggage hiccup, milk brought at night for a toddler. Other guests describe reception falling short and an unhelpful response to the cot problem.

  4. Breakfast

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests praise the buffet and dishes made to order: a guest on a third stay names waffles and eggs Benedict, another praises customised egg dishes. Fresh bread and muesli also appear in the accounts.

  5. Price

Critics describe small rooms and service below expectations for the rate; those defending the price point to the location, comfort and staff’s attention.

500 guests said so on Google, from 28 January 2023 to 7 October 2026. The reviews cover hotel stays, the restaurant and bars; the counts also include customers who did not stay overnight. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Price: for 2, the night of 5 March 2027, from 531 CHF on Google Hotels on 19 October 2026.

What a night costs, period by period

For 12–18 February 2027, a night for 2 runs from CHF 611 to CHF 637, each night taken on its own. I would start with those dates.

PeriodCHF a night
20 October 2026 to 15 January 2027647–994
16 January to 22 January 2027731–1,337
23 January to 30 April 2027531–816
1 May to 14 September 2027728–1,390

CHF 531 on 5 March 2027 is an isolated night; the “from CHF 607” comes from 3 nights in a row, 5–7 February. Each figure is the lowest price for 2 adults of one night taken alone, whatever the room. The calendar runs to 14 September 2027.

Storchen or Widder

I would choose Storchen for its position on the Limmat and an Old Town base on foot, allowing for the Rathausbrücke works. At Widder, I would look at the Historic Junior Suite for its 17th-century frescoes. For 23–29 November 2026, the lowest night for 2 is CHF 696 at Storchen and CHF 688 at Widder, each night taken alone.

Between the river and terraces

La Rôtisserie

Breakfast by the Limmat

I would have breakfast at La Rôtisserie, 7–10:30 am. In summer, weather permitting, it moves onto the riverside terrace. Sunday brunch has its own hours and price: 11:30 am–3 pm, CHF 130 per adult and CHF 55 for ages 6–15.12

Barchetta Bar

Barchetta on the way back

For a spritz on the way back, I would stop at Barchetta under the arcades.1

THE NEST

A rooftop lunch

I would save THE NEST for good weather: it opens 11:30 am–10 pm, subject to weather and temperature. Evening tables are first come, first served; the guest fast lane does not mean a reserved table.12

Good to know before you book

  • Yes. The city is replacing the Rathausbrücke, starting from the Weinplatz side: main works run 2026–2028, with finishing work in 2029. A 7 August 2026 review reports noise and disrupted views. The city maintains a pedestrian passage during construction.12

  • At La Rôtisserie, the Chef’s Table puts you behind the kitchen doors: 7 courses for CHF 352 per person, including water, coffee and a glass of champagne as an aperitif. Regular dinner runs 6–10 pm. Dogs cannot enter the restaurant; the hostess offers to look after yours while you dine.1
