Marguita
Mediterranean cooking with 15 GaultMillau points, in the rotunda over the Schanzengraben or, in summer, out under the park’s trees. Breakfast is served here too, from 7am.
In Zurich every metre is worth a fortune, yet Baur au Lac keeps a whole park between Bahnhofstrasse and the lake. Alfred Nobel and Bertha von Suttner used to meet beneath Le Hall’s glass dome; the same family has run it for 7 generations.
A week here, month by monthFor Zurich on foot, Baur au Lac starts at €1,122 in February 2027 for 2 adults: the lowest seller’s single-night price on Google. If a pool is part of the plan, choose a spa hotel.
Hotels in Zurich’s old town: the Baur au Lac and the other luxury hotels of the centre, compared Baur au Lac restaurantsWould you go?
Keep it among your hotels and see it on the budget globe, month by month.
I would ask for the Lakeside Junior Suite: around 60 m² with views of the park and Lake Zurich, and a sitting area with a sofa for time spent indoors.
Consider 3–9 February 2027: single nights for 2 adults ranged from €1,122 to €1,159 on Google, read 13 October 2026. The dearest night shown, 20 January 2027, was €1,905.
Allow CHF 45 per dog per day, with a bed, bowls and a dog menu. Dogs may join you on Marguita’s terrace, but the hotel’s restaurants otherwise remain off limits to them.
For a private trip on Lake Zurich, ask the 24-hour concierge about Tugenia, the hotel’s historic saloon boat, which the team can arrange for guests.
Johannes Baur opened it in 1844 with the view of the Alps in mind, and his park is still there between Bahnhofstrasse and the lake, whatever Zurich’s property prices say. The family that inherited its story runs it to this day. Step under the dome of Le Hall and the city is still only a few paces away, but for a while it stops hurrying you.
Under that glass dome, redesigned by Pierre-Yves Rochon in 2014, Alfred Nobel and Bertha von Suttner used to meet; today Le Hall serves everything from breakfast to the aperitif and, from October, afternoon tea. For meals you choose between Marguita, Mediterranean cooking with 15 GaultMillau points and a terrace in the park, and Baur’s, a brasserie with 14 points and a bar named Switzerland’s best hotel bar in 2025. Anyone looking for the Pavillon’s 2 Michelin stars has come too late: it closed in 2024, and Marguita took its place.
Guests give it 4.7 out of 5 on Tripadvisor and 9.2 out of 10 on Booking.com, and the MICHELIN Guide gives it 3 Keys. Then 2 warnings. First: no spa, no sauna, no pool, but a fitness club on the fifth floor, and in summer the hotel lends you towels for the public lake baths. Second: the rooms on the street hear more of the city than those on the park.
For the Baur au Lac we gathered all 1,928 of its Google reviews, the first from July 2010, and searched the 956 that carry a text; then we read 45 pages of the official site, found 32 videos on YouTube, 31 of them truly about the hotel, and calculated 11 walking routes on the map, all on 28 September 2026. Of those 956, 40 are about afternoon tea under the cupola of Le Hall, 32 of them with 5 stars.

In Zurich every metre is worth a fortune, yet Baur au Lac keeps a whole park between Bahnhofstrasse and the lake.
How we choose the hotelsWhat we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.
Its park sits right in the centre: the lake 3 minutes’ walk away, Paradeplatz and Bahnhofstrasse 5, the main station 19.
One family since 1844, the dome of Le Hall, the staircase with Friedrich Berbig’s stained glass and an art collection that runs from Botero to Picasso.
119 rooms, 46 of them suites, from the 25 m² Single to the 90 m² Lakeside Corner Suite; the lake fills the windows from the Lakeside Junior Suite up.
Marguita, 15 GaultMillau points and a park terrace; Baur’s, 14 points and Switzerland’s best hotel bar of 2025; and Le Hall, open from breakfast to the aperitif.
There is no spa, sauna or pool. What remains is the fifth-floor fitness club with the lake in the window, massages on request and, in summer, the public lake baths.
The great classic if you want Zurich on your doorstep; if you dream of a spa, head up to the Dolder. And breakfast, here, is extra.
A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.
Here: one family since 1844, the dome of Le Hall, the staircase with Friedrich Berbig’s stained glass and an art collection that runs from Botero to Picasso.
A history that goes back to at least 1844. 31 hotels of 335 hold it.
Every hotel with this badgeWhat do Baur au Lac’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The lake a short walk away, Bahnhofstrasse round the corner, and a garden where the city falls away.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Large, quiet rooms and beds guests praise for a good night’s sleep; the lake comes into view from the Lakeside Junior Suite upwards.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Overnight guests remember attentive, discreet staff, and many write about the concierge and afternoon tea under the dome of Le Hall.
8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests remember breakfast at Marguita, most of all when it is served beside the garden, for the quality of the produce and the attentive service.
Guests content with the bill call it money well spent; the room rate includes the minibar and twice-daily housekeeping, while breakfast is extra at CHF 52 a person.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 4 October 2021 to 24 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Zurich: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 1 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in Zurich:
Price: for two on the night of 5 February 2027, from €1,122 (seen on Google Hotels on 13 October 2026).

2 restaurants and Le Hall, the staircase with its stained glass, a park where bees make the breakfast honey and a fitness club on the top floor.

A classic brasserie with 14 GaultMillau points and Sunday brunch. The bar, Switzerland’s best hotel bar at the Swiss Bar Awards 2025, takes no bookings: first come, first poured.

Sisi spent a summer here, Wilhelm II stayed, and Nobel and Bertha von Suttner kept their appointments in Le Hall. Today the seventh generation of the Kracht family runs it.

On the fifth floor, from 6.30am to 10pm, with the lake and the Alps to look at while you train. A personal trainer costs CHF 150 for 45 minutes.
There is no scheduled shuttle from the airport: the hotel’s private transfer costs CHF 150 by day and CHF 170 at night, a taxi about CHF 65. Source: bauraulac.ch
The hotel says it plainly on its facts page: there is no spa, sauna, steam room or pool. The spa with a sauna that Agoda describes does not exist. There is the fifth-floor fitness club, and the concierge arranges massages.
Breakfast is extra, at CHF 52 per person. It is served at Marguita from 7am to 10.30am on weekdays; at weekends you can linger until 11am.
On the park you sleep in silence, on the street a little less so. And on weekdays, Booking.com warns, building work nearby may be heard in some rooms.
Each dog pays CHF 45 a day and in return gets its own bed, bowls and a menu all to itself. The restaurants are off limits, with one exception: Marguita’s terrace.

5 reviews from the hotel’s Google listing: an anniversary, dinner in the garden, a breakfast packed for an early flight.
For an anniversary: the communication before arrival, a royal welcome, and their name and the occasion remembered from the first moment.
A classic grand hotel, luxurious and discreet, beautifully kept and family-run; the one thing missing is a proper spa, with a pool and a hot tub.
A beautiful garden for dinner and drinks; the meal average, and the staff friendly and polite but not always on top of things.
A stately, world-class hotel in a fantastic location; for an early-morning flight they packed breakfast to take away.
A nice, central hotel, but the noise of building work woke them up.
The questions worth asking before you book, with answers read across every source on 27 and 28 September 2026.
On Google Hotels, read on 28 September 2026, the official site asked for a night for two €1,250 on Tuesday 13 October, €1,250 on 17 November, €1,356 on 8 December, €1,144 on 9 February, €1,356 on 20 April and €1,779 on 15 June; 31 December had no prices. The lowest seller went down to €1,212 on 13 October and €1,122 on 9 February. Breakfast is extra, CHF 52 per person; the rate includes the soft-drinks minibar, with alcohol too in suites, twice-daily housekeeping and VAT. Cancellation is free until noon the day before.
No, as the hotel itself says: no spa, sauna, steam room or pool. There is a fitness club on the fifth floor, open to guests from 6.30am to 10pm, with the lake and the Alps in its windows; the concierge arranges massages and physiotherapy. For a swim in summer, the hotel lends towels and a bag for the public lake baths: the Frauenbad is 5 minutes’ walk away, the Seebad Utoquai 14, open until 25 October 2026. The spa with a sauna and steam room that Agoda describes does not exist.
2 restaurants, Marguita and Baur’s, plus Le Hall and the bar; the Pavillon, no. It held 2 Michelin stars, closed in 2024, and Marguita took its place: Mediterranean, 15 GaultMillau points, lunch from noon to 1.45pm and dinner from 6pm to 9.45pm, closed 12 to 18 October 2026. Baur’s Brasserie, 14 points, was closed until 11 October 2026 on its own site and from 18 October serves Sunday brunch, 11am to 3pm; Baur’s bar opens every evening from 6pm on the hotel’s site, Monday to Saturday from 3pm on its own. Le Hall serves all day. Expedia still promises “a Michelin star rated meal”, and a Telegraph review still online describes the Pavillon: both describe a restaurant that is no longer there.
CHF 52 per person, on top of the room rate. Marguita serves a buffet and à la carte dishes, from 7am to 10.30am on weekdays and 7am to 11am at weekends, with honey from the park’s own bees. If you would rather eat in your room, in-room dining runs 24 hours.
12.6 km, about 15 minutes by car without traffic, and a taxi costs about CHF 65. There is no scheduled shuttle: the hotel runs private transfers, CHF 150 by day and CHF 170 at night in a Mercedes S-Class, CHF 230 and 280 in a Bentley. By train and tram it takes about 25 minutes. For the Bentley the hotel’s own pages give 2 prices: its voucher shop sells the transfer at CHF 150, while the transfer page says CHF 230 by day.
At Talstrasse 1, right in the centre, inside its park on the Schanzengraben, and quiet, especially on the park side. The lake at Bürkliplatz is 3 minutes’ walk away, Paradeplatz and Bahnhofstrasse 5, the main station 19. The park shields most rooms; those on the street hear more of the city, and Booking.com warns of building work nearby on weekdays.

Smaller rooms cost CHF 750 to 1,000, and in summer there is the Lindenplatz in the park. For the vows themselves you go to the registry office: the Baur au Lac is not among the city’s civil-wedding venues.
Yes, 4 of them, on Thursday 31 December 2026 from 7pm, drinks excluded. Connecting rooms, yes: in some categories up to 7 connect, and a Double Room can adjoin a Junior Suite or a River Suite. From a double room upwards, an extra bed for a third guest aged 3 or over costs CHF 120 a night, with at most 3 guests a room, according to the official site, read on 15 October 2026.
